One Relax Drama

Long time hesitate to watch this, but I'm bored so just decided to watch this drama. Quite happy to watch this drama in the end.

This drama tell story about Xu Hong Dou (HD) that just losing her friend & decided to take a break from life & just go to small town in Yunnan to relax. HD had plan to go travel to Yunnan with her friend, but since she died, HD decided to fulfill the promise & just go there. In Yunnan, Yun Miao village, like all small village, the community is closed tied & family related.
So aside from relax, HD also find new friend & new community or you can say new family and also not forget the love of her life.

What I like:
+ Really relax atmosphere. Like all small village, the time worked really slow & can make us feel relax & nothing in life is so important that you need to work your ass around...
+ The maturity of HD & Xie Zhi Yao (ZY). Like we know they love each other, but they don't rush thing & let the time take care of it.
+ The friendship that all the village create for one and each other.
+ The funny Granny Xie. Hoho... One more cute & adorable grandma in dramaland
+ They talk about the important communication between family. Like when Ma Qiu Shan & HD want to start business, they like having talk that whatever happen talk with family is important, not only when you already decided then you announce your decision.

Maybe from all of this the minus is only one. The times sometimes moves so slow... For you who don't like it gonna feel this drama a little bit bored.... Oh and maybe as usual for c-drama, the episode is just d*mn too much, I don't think the episode need this long.

Overall this is one good drama for you to enjoy and learn to relax....

Sweet and Satisfying

Loved the drama from start to finish! Minor spoilers.

Ji Eum has the memory of all her past lives but the person she most wants to meet is Seo Ha from her 18th life which was cut short. Meanwhile he is still reeling from the loss he suffered from the accident years later. Though I am not sure how much of it was taken from webtoon, I hear it's not an exact replica. Irrespective of that, it is cinematically beautiful with captivating performances by all actors and beautiful OST to set the mood.

The added mystery was a nice touch towards the end which kept things fresh. The pace might feel a little on the slower side but every minute was enjoyable. Loved the way the story portrayed all the relationships that Ban Ji Eum had and both the highs and the lows of carrying the burden of past lives. It was also interesting to see how she used it to her advantage in the present life.

Loved the completely different character portrayed by Ahn Bo Hyun compared to the one he had in Military Prosecutor Doberman. I love when actors can convincingly perform different types of roles well. The child actor Kim Shi Ah also stood out for her performance as the young Ju Won. This was my first proper introduction to Shin Hye Sun and although I had my doubts at first, I fell in love with her character when she is standing outside her mother's mom and reminiscing about the relationship they shared. Such a tragically beautiful moment that it brought tears to my eyes.

I also loved the back and forth between Cho Won and Do Yoon. Will they? Won't they? And the late but memorable entry of Minki to add some spice to the plot.

"Juicy Juicy" by Jo Yuri has become one of my favourite OSTs and it got stuck in my head almost as soon as I heard it!

This is a perfectly binge-worthy show that I hope finds more viewers.

If there is something to complain about, it would be that Seo Ha's dream was to renovate his mother's hotel which we didn't quite see finished. And I wish we would have seen some development in his relationship with his father just to tie up everything neatly.

Charming hanger, to tell the same old story about Cupid's arrow in a refreshing crisp new way

"See you in my 19th Life" is first and foremost a love story. However, there is this particular, dramaturgically appealing impulse, since the protagonist has been incarnating on this planet again and again since 980 AND is actually able of recalling all of her 19 multifaceted lives so far quite well. So the protagonist is neither ghost nor demon, but a human being like you and me – only with more knowledge and experience from her previous lives with different gender. She brought all she has ever learned and known along with her.

A nice hanger, I think. A great (not necessarily brand new, though,) idea to tell the same old story about Cupid's arrow in a refreshing crisp new way. The idea goes back to a web toon. As tvN-KDrama it comes along in 12 episodes. Here Shin Hye-sun once more took the chance to break down female stereotypes, as she had already successfully stirred up gender-specific behavior patterns with her acting in "Mr Queen". Wonderful.

I think the concept overall works very well. The KDrama presents a Rom+Com in a light-footed pace. However, the protagonists certainly have their bags to carry. So the story doesn't just sail along on the surface. And then, of course, there are also mischievous characters, e.g. in the Jaebeol milieu, adding some extra excitement. In addition, the subplots are quite elaborated in a charming manner, too.

So: If you're in the mood for Rom+Com, you'll be well taken care of with this KDrama. The story draws with pleasure from the large pot of possibilities that arise from the idea of awareness in reincarnation, thus lovingly spicing up a solid love story. Predictable it may still be, yet it is fun, heartwarming and including some surprising twists, too.

Disrespectful Portrayal of Arabs and Muslims

Unfortunately, the portrayal of Arabs and Muslims in this show falls short. Others may find "Arab Prince" amusing, but as an Arab and Muslim, I find the images upsetting and demeaning. TV shows have the ability to mould ideas, reinforce stereotypes, and affect the minds of younger generations, and this sadly portrayed us in a negative light, which upset my community and individuals. We demand that the scenes be removed! A simple google search would tell you and inform you about how our culture .

Try it if you like bland

This drama is suffering from its own grandiosity. The writers think telling us the characters are 'intelligent' is enough to sway the audience into thinking the same. All the characters are bland, the plot is so glaringly obvious, and the acting from both Dil and Gong is barely lukewarm. I can't believe I renewed my Youku sub for this rubbish.

A Pleasant Watch if Slightly Predictable

I decided to watch this drama simply based on the synapsis, it was an intriguing concept.

What would you do if you could remember your past lives? Would this be a blessing or a curse?

I never really felt these questions were answered, however what we did get was an enjoyable romance with just enough drama to keep the story moving.

Shin Hye Sun as the female lead was really good throughout, but I particularly enjoyed her performance in the early episodes where she stole every scene she was in. She managed to combine smart, sassy, funny and sexy all in one unique package. She took no prisoners when she decided on her course of action.

Ahn Bo Hyun as our male lead was fine, I don't think he was particular stretched by this role and I didn't completely buy into his feelings of loss but that was a minor issue for me.

Perhaps his story arc featured a little too heavily for me as he tried to discover the mystery surrounding Ban Ji Eum death in her previous past life. I also found when they discovered the mastermind behind this and the reasons for it, this was rather underwhelming.

I would have perhaps have enjoyed this drama more if we had spent more time examining and experiencing Ban Ji Eum past lives. We got clips and flashbacks but these never really explored in detail. Maybe this was a drama that required 16 episodes rather the 12 we got?

As far as the ending was concerned it was slightly predictable, I've seen similar endings in other films and drama's. We get to see our leads reunited even if Ban Ji Eum doesn't remember Moon Seo Ha. It was sweet if not terribly original.

Overall this was a pleasant watch and did provide a happy ending for our leads, whilst I wouldn't rush to rewatch it anytime soon, I m sure to revisit it just for Shin Hye Sun performance.

A waste of a potentially great adaptation

I know with adaptations from well-beloved sources, there is more of a general tendency to recommend seeing them as separate entities, but I think there's a legitimate argument for feeling upset when an adaptation fails to such a degree as this has to me to meet expectations.

I didn't start out with many; I'll admit that I had never heard of the story before this drama came out. I'm not well versed in Webtoons, nor comics in general (Pyramid Game and See You In My 19th Life being the two that I have readat the time of writing this) – but I fell so deeply in love with the concept of somebody remembering all of their past lives, and going back to re-enter into the lives of the people they had left behind – using all of her previous knowledge and confidence to equip her in this endeavour, I found Ban Ji-Eum to be a magnetic protagonist, masterfully portrayed by Shin Hye Sun (whom I'd seen previously in Still 17, and was already a fan of). The ending to the third episode made me weep buckets, and by then – my mind was made: I would read this comic, as a way of tiding me over until the next episodes came along.

I engorged myself on it, binging it easily within the span of a week. I fell even deeper.

Coming back to the drama from the Webtoon was a bit of a shock to the system, but I felt – if anything – even more on-board than before. There were a few pacing issues I noticed; some scenes where it felt like it didn't linger enough for me to feel connected to them, scenes where the ML, Seo-Ha would just... be in the pool. A lot of gruesome (and quite badly triggering to the two people I was watching with, who had both been in serious vehicular accidents – which is something to keep in mind if you're sensitive to crashes even in the slightest) flashbacks. All the same, I was excited for where the story was leading.

Then came the murder plot.

I'll admit, the revelations, and the resolutions of it in the Webtoon didn't feel jaw-dropping to me – but it acted there more like a periphery, and a way to keep the characters together and motivated for long enough to stay close to each other. To me, I didn't feel like the resolution to the murder plot in the Webtoon needed to be stunning – because it lead to everything else I loved about it.

But the drama's version was something else, truly. It felt like, rather than lending itself to the romance plot, leading to answers that were good enough, and that made sense – I feel like it took over, and that the answers didn't give me nearly enough for me to believe in its motivations.

Seo-Ha's mother getting more of the spotlight as another reincarnation who remembers, I feel like was another change that added absolutely nothing to the story. The actress has her own charisma, but I didn't feel like she portrayed a character who had life experience enough to have been married with a kid, and the story behind why she was there was another addition that didn't make a lot of sense to me.

All in all, it felt like a definite downturn at this point. And for me, it didn't pick itself back up – it just kept digging itself into a grave.

One of my favorite plotlines in the entire Webtoon involved a plot turn that came in towards the end, involving Ji-Eum's first life. A lot of pieces that had already been lain down beforehand suddenly fell into place, and made it so that it didn't matter to me I'd already (accidentally) read spoilers, and knew what was coming. I really felt the deep tragedy, and the heartbreak of her past, and it changed the rest of the story in an interesting way for me, that flipped expectations for the reincarnation fantasy romance story-type, and made me love the characters even more.

I should have felt surprised when they dropped that storyline, exchanging it for something so much worse, but at this point, it felt like it was just another disappointment. By connecting the characters in such a flimsy way, it felt like it was leaning right back into the exact anticipated, tired cliches that the Webtoon was trying to avoid. I think the saddest thing is that this was the point of no return for my opinion of the drama – I feel like if they had set it up well, and nailed this one part of the plot – I might have come around to the drama as not being great, but not being so terrible either. Instead, it felt like I was served a kick in the teeth.

I don't normally feel so bad when I feel like a story's gone bad, or it disappoints me somehow. As a writer, I know how hard it is to write – I know there can be a million different expectations to live up to, and how impossible it can feel to live up to every single one – especially when it comes to adaptation, where there are people who will love the original more, no matter what.

But I also feel like it failing at being an adaptation is its own valid critique. When there's already a fully fleshed out story, and there are many people who are just looking for a faithfulness to the essence of the story; the most familiar story beats – I feel like there's less leeway there I'll give to an adaptation that changes it so much, and ends up making a huge mess of it in the process over an original story that makes a mess of itself.

On what I did like: most of all was its potential, but second of all was the strength of the OST. Standouts to me being (from the top of my head): Star by Colde, I'll Embrace Your Past by the lead actor Ahn Bo Hyun, and DOWN (Juicy Juicy) by JO YURI. This side of production, I loved.

I feel like the Seo-Ha that Ahn Bo Hyun played was almost a different character entirely from his more expressive, grumpy shut-in Webtoon counterpart – but I did love to watch the moments where he was completely bewildered and rendered speechless by Ji-Eum's shamelessness, and while I don't feel like he was perhaps the right casting choice for the Webtoon, I feel like he had enough of his own endearing charm he brought to the role to largely not be included in my other, weightier and more substantial grumblings.

The child actors were all outstanding, and they all (I felt) brought something very special and unique to the drama; I've seen a lot of their other projects, too, and there's a lot of incredible skill there already. A lot of the supporting cast, in fact, were very very good. Cha Chung Hwa is always phenomenal, no matter where I see her – and I have my eyes on Ha Yoon Kyung (having already noticed her in Extraordinary Attorney Woo) and Ahn Dong Goo, as the second leads. I feel like they both brought a lot of depth and warmth to their roles while still feeling like their Webtoon characters.

If I were to revise this story myself and offer constructive feedback as a writer, I would've focused more on what the main characters want, and what they might lose. I would've had less accident flashbacks or pool scenes, and focused more on the development of relationships. I would've gotten rid of the "consequences" to knowing, and simplified where it didn't need to be that complicated. The scenes which fleshed out the relationships that Ji-Eum had with people like her niece, her mother, and her sister from a previous life were beautiful additions, and I would have leant a lot more into that.

While I don't feel very encouraged to pick up the future dramas of these writers – I do genuinely hope that they will improve from here. There was something almost magic to me about this drama, and it's always the "almost" that gets me.

The Middle Part was as dry as the Sahara Dessert

Didn't really intend on picking this drama up (and I really shouldn't have), but the first several episodes were pretty darn amazing, I love my scammers scamming bad people drama cliche alot so i have enjoyed quite a number from this genre regardless of the writing (see leverage, mad dog etc). And they did the scamming pretty cooly too, hardly seen breaking of the fourth wall and there were a good number of cool shots that are pretty rare in dramas.

But then the middle part came and let me tell you I felt like I got scammed into watching this (pun intended), the main cast kind of stopped scamming people to give a backstory that while interesting was presented in a very questionable order and convoluted way that made me care less as the episodes went on. I thought officer park (the probation officer guy) and mo jae in had a pretty interesting relationship going on with all the backstory but it wasn't really developed in the end and it felt weird that they were promoted as leads for this drama as well

The acting kind of saved the show and at least made me finish it but i definitely had to force myself through more than a hand ful of episodes (like 6 eps), really a waste of talent, if only they had kept that intial sparkle and kinda speedy story from the first few episodes, it would have great

One of a Kind

I am not a big fan of reincarnation in shows as I find it more miss than hit, but with this show? It was a total hit. I loved seeing glimpses of all the past lives throughout the series and how it makes Jieum the way she is in modern time. It is light and not difficult to understand with some mystery elements that kept watchers wanting to come back to figure out what they were. While the history of the ml and the fl was heartbreaking to learn about, it was a unique, beautiful story that was told in a fantastic way. The second ml and fl I enjoyed all the way to the end and at some points was more interested in watching their story over the main plot. The show started good at episode 1 and kept great until a satisfying ending.

The OST in the show was absolutely fantastic, especially Star by Colde and Silence by Sunwoojunga. Whenever a song was playing, it is a fitting mood and suits the atmosphere of what is happening within the series.

Favorite character of the series was Kang Mingi played by Lee Chaemin. I loved the mystery aspect we got with his character, learning more about him, who he is, and the role he played in everything going on. Plus... his acting was phenomenal.

Decent

The earlier parts were dreadful to get through, they did an awful job trying to hook the viewers but it got a lot better later on. Around episode 5-6 it started getting interesting and enjoyable. However, that didn't last for too long as there was a big downtime and disconnect in the story after episode 12. Meanwhile the ending was good enough but I hoped for something better. On the other hand, the drama had a decent selection of cast but I wish we got to see more of the support cast like Park Won Sang instead of filling it with redundant scenes. The drama was promising and good enough but it left a lot to be desired.

A distinctive story and a captivating cinematography.

“Just as I was getting bored of repeating life after life, I met Seoha.” – Ban Jieum

Ban Jieum's 17 lives were exceptional. She danced the flamenco, she fought the war, she was in a circus. Yet the life that impacted her the most was her 18th life, her life as Yoon Juwon. Those 12 years as Juwon made her forget the fact that she remembers her previous lives. And this is because of a little kid named Moon Seoha. Her 19th life was then a life of reminiscing and reuniting. She wanted to meet and gather with her loved ones. Aegyeong, Chowon, Seoha.

On top of an impressive cast, this webtoon adaptation has a unique story-line and a mesmerizing cinematography. Howeverm what stroke me the most in this drama are the diverse dynamics we had between Jieum and other characters.

Jieum and Aegyeong, uncle and niece relationship: Aegyeong is truly my comfort character. She exudes tenderness, care, and even motherly love. She's taken care of Jieum ever since she was little and never judged her or questioned her about her previous lives. She just believed her and called her "삼촌" as much as she could. Aegyeong was there when Jieum needed it the most and that's a proof of her fidelity and reliability.
“Living a safe and ordinary life together with you. That’s all I want.” – Aegyeong

Jieum and Chowon, sisterhood: Chowon was the second person to know and accept Jieum as she is. Chowon has always been Jieum's little baby. In the 18th and 19th life. Even though she still hasn't told her about her remembering her past lives, she looks at her with such devotion and melancholia and she pats her when she's asleep. Even though Chowon still didn't know about it, she felt the sisterly connection between her and Jieum.
“Why does a stranger feel so much like my sister?” – Chowon

Jieum and her 18th life mom, a solid and deep bond: In episode 3, we witness and devastatingly beautiful scene of Jieum embracing her mother while wailing. However, this was only part of her imagination. This is what she wanted, her previous life's mother to remember her and to understand that Juwon is still here, but in another form. The mom wants to believe that Juwon will come back to the point of keeping Juwon's room untouched. She was bound to believe Jieum. Unfortunately, Jieum never told her about her previous life as Juwon.
“There are people I can share my secret with and people that I should never open up to.” – Jieum

Jieum and Doyoon, underappreciated and a lost potential: In the Webtoon, the only one who was connected to Jieum in her first life was Doyoon. They were twins. Unfortunately, it didn't happen in the drama and they remained strangers. He's only seen as her sister's lover, not as her brother. I wanted to see their sibling-like bickering. It's a pity.

Jieum and Mingi, a best-friend turned into an enemy: another wasted potential. I really wanted them to remain as best-friends and wanted Mingi to be that chaotic funny best-friend. I wanted to see comedy since it's one of the genre in the show, but we got angst. They turned him into a key character in Jieum's first life and made him a grey-ish character. They handled the story pretty well tho, Mingi being in her first life and killing Seol (Chowon's name in the first life), was consistent and understandable. Thus the reason Jieum remembers her past lives in the drama is because she held a grudge against Mingi in her first life.
“Can you even say that this life is a new life for you? Aren’t you just clinging onto your past relationships?” - Mingi

Jieum and Seoha: an unfinished and unfulfilled love bound to flourish again: what a wonderful dynamic. One of my all-time favorite couple. Their backstory is so emotionally beautiful, their love is pure and they only have eyes for each others. Jieum, previous Juwon, will be the sun that shines over Seoha's pitch-black life and the moon that enlightens Seoha's dull and traumatic life. Seoha's innocence and playfulness made Jieum feel truly alive, not just going through another life.
Swimming together, reading together, laughing together, those very simple things made her feel like an actual 12 year old girl.
“I’ve always wondered why I could remember my past lives. I couldn’t forget them even if I wanted to. But the most memorable life out of them all was the warm and ordinary summer days with you.” – Jieum
Seoha's innocence remained even when he grew up. He's still a child in his heart because his soul died as soon as Juwon died. He felt his soul reviving as soon as Jieum appeared in his life.
“When I was with Seoha, I felt like I was actually 12. He made me forget that I had died and lived again seventeen times in the past.” – Jieum
“When I’m with her, my worries melt away and I feel relieved. If this is what love is, can I let myself feel it?” – Seoha

On top of the wonderful dynamics, the cinematography. Alluring, breath-taking, ethereal. I watched every single scene with glowing eyes because of how enticing the cuts are. Not only the dialogues are beautiful, the cinematography adds a dreamy-like perspective to every single word they utter.

I also want to highlight the impressive performance of Shin Hyesun. I'm so glad she's getting more love as she's doing more works. She's a wonderful actress and the perfect cast for Ban Jieum and for Su (her name in the first life). All of the actors did an amazing job portraying their own character, the performances are top-notch.

I really loved the OSTs, I liked some BGMs even though they put comical BGMs in serious scenes. The staff did an amazing job overall.

Also if you expect watching the exact same adaptation of the webtoon, it will not happen. Significant changed have been made. It personally didn't affect me that much, I liked the changes and it also made those who read the webtoon clueless about what was about to happen. It was a stressful but fun ride.

As expected the ending was not shocking. Jieum forgets her past lives forever not only to protect her loved ones, but also to protect herself from the torment she's been living throughout these centuries. Little by little, her loved ones approach her like she did first and will slowly get close to her. Jieum has a fun personality so it will be easy to get close to them once again. Seoha is now the daring one, he's the one who's about to ask her out three times and she will be the one who'll accept his request.

Overall, this drama was amazing. I really loved it. I don't usually watch fantasy shows and the last romance fantasy I watched was Hotel del Luna back in 2019. This was a big surprise and I don't regret watching it. It's a good short drama with a cast and staff that did an outstanding job.

“I don’t know whether I was startled or simply wanted to live. But I just started running. All the longing and heart-wrenching memories must’ve vanished in the wind while I ran. I found the will to live once again. That was when I realized that if I run, I can live.” – Jieum

The C-Drama that you should watch. Hope it have a longer version. The BEST Soundtrack so far

This is an interesting series. At first, it's like a typical CEO cold and serious ML and a funny and beautiful FL. After watching 10, I loved it, can't stop watching and excited to it.

It's fun to watch and love their chemistry. Love the FL, not only beautiful but she acts perfectly in the character. Love her for being funny and being herself. Love her personality and her voice.

Most especially, the best OST so far, I listen to the song "all about that day which is the opening song, and the shock that the singer is the FL itself. It's been a loop every day since I heard it. Bravo to the production for choosing the perfect songs for the series.

It's not boring at all, I just hope that the length of every episode is longer than it is. I never watched a C-drama that I'm looking forward to the next episode as this.

Really recommend it and listen to the soundtrack, it is so good.

A good joy ride into the Gumiho’s past!

Spoiler alert!
We happen to value things which we either don’t have or used to have. The former is out of control for most of us and most of us are mere mortals who can’t do much but regret the latter for not having cherished it enough when we had it. But our ML being a Gumiho (and not a mere mortal) in a fantasy world gets the opportunity to build some more memories with his brother lee rang who is dead in lee yeon’s time.

Things I appreciated:
It showcases good face-offs between lee yeon and some powerful villains as well as friends (you will know what I mean). At times I was afraid that our ML might get beaten or severely injured (even though we know he was meant to bounce back). The most appealing and attractive aspect of this season was the battle with the perfect impersonator jang san-beom. It’s a pretty unique and fascinating idea to witness. The path of the damned gives the kind of mysterious and horrifying twist to the plot I love.
The use of pure Japanese throughout many scenes in the show was also likened by me. I watch Chinese and Japanese dramas as well, so being subject to two languages at once was something that felt really amazing.
This season presents humour with pretty good timing and broadens our knowledge of lee yeon’s friends and acquaintances. This one doesn’t have any romantic elements to it like the first season. Overall I appreciate the showrunners displaying different themes in the two seasons. I would like it if season 3 goes back to the romance between Lee-yeon and Ji-ah.
Lastly, we all know - “She is there”

Things I couldn’t:
Old-fashion rice cooker deity!? Toilet deity!!? Seriously? This made me disappointed for something with the standard of “tale of the nine-tailed”.

Hmmm maybe better with another pairing?

The main premise of the show is described to be centred around Souta's love for “naked dining”, and how another person comes to learn about his secret. But the series doesn’t dwell on this too much throughout the episodes.

Perhaps, in reality, the nakedness is intended to be far more profound, going beyond this silly imagery.

As Souta spends more time cooking the recipes in his grandmother’s book, he discovers his grandmother’s world – a world beyond the colourless and dreadful universe of a salaryman, filled with endless potential.

He also discovers another facet of 'nakedness': being honest with one's feelings and learning to live an authentic life.

Zenra Meshi’s point is this: You should be taking chances and introducing adventure into your life, even if you don’t know whether you will like it or not. And yes, this nifty little metaphor applies not just to cuisines, but also extends to love.

Unfortunately, the romance, with its standard share of misunderstandings and jealousy, came off as superficial and formulaic. While some kind of character development was hinted at for Souta, the storyline couldn’t quite capture why or how the change was meaningful.

The questionable chemistry between the male leads – but perhaps this is an issue with the casting rather than the actual premise of the show – also explained why some scenes fell flat.
