I've seen the first 20 episodes and I can say that this award winning masterpiece is hands down the best drama on Netflix right now! The attention to detail is second to none and the acting is phenomenal.
The story is based around China's civil war between the Communist Party and the Nationalist Party, but a unique aspect of the show is that it isn't portrayed as a battle between good vs evil, but instead a contest between idealists who view things differently.
Both sides worked really hard towards improving their country and it gives the viewer an insight into how difficult those times were post war.

The show is very engaging and there is never a dull moment.

Chilling, nerve-wracking, and heartbreaking. They injected so much humanity into the bleak political situation of China at the time. More than anything, I think this is a story about the fall of a very corrupt government, told (mostly, since the Communist didn't even have that much of screentime) from the perspective of people who were trying to save it and fix it, but failed nonetheless. I really appreciate how nothing is dumbed down for the sake of convenience writing; the 'good' people, the 'bad' ones, the bloody political situation, the consequences of actions taken, the emotions felt by the characters, the characters' choice to deal with those emotions, all portrayed as complicated as it supposed to be.

I would also recommend you to watch the drama The Red. it's so good. because there is no internationally famous actors in that drama, so there are not so many people translating it

I put it to my PTW list long ago but I can't find eng subs, I won't watch the drama without subs as I can only understand a few Chinese words and expressions, so I'll just be patient and wait for the day it'll be subbed ;D
I like it too when the actors are not famous so that they can also shine and show their acting skills, it's also good seeing new faces ;D
      Anyway thx ^^
