I've already seen lot of k-dramas, but I admit that this one was special, really different from other dramas. It talks about a earthquake in Seoul and at the same time it doesn't. It's much more than that. It's about people, normal people and how they would react if a disaster would happen.
At the beginning I wasn't sure if I would like it, because I couldn't imagine how they were going to deal with the result of a earthquake for 20 episodes, but at the end I liked it. It's not perfect, there are lots of flaws, but it's ok. Nevertheless, it could have been better with 15 episodes or less, not 20.
Story: I liked the fact that character's behavior, facing a big disaster, is completely different from any american show, where everybody is nice and have a huge heart to help others (and at the same time it's so unrealistic...). Always there will be good people and bad people, and theirs qualities (good or bad) come to light even more in difficult times as a earthquake, and this is something we can clearly see in D-Day. In this drama, people it is what it is.
On the other hand, this drama is a roller coaster of emotions. One moment you are literally crying your eyes out of sadness and a minute later you are mad at the director and you would like a building to fell upon him and karma to do his job.
Acting: I love the main leads... the rest were ok too. At the beginning I couldn't stand Dr. Han Woo Jin, but I think his character gets better at the end. The biggest flaw is the director... it seems as at the end he would be forgiven for all the things he did... I suppose for him and the politician karma does not always works.
Music: the 3 main songs are nice (Memories, the Day, and Let you know).
Rewatch value: perhaps some part of the drama, but not everything.

First let me say that Lee Kyeong Yeong is one of my favorite villains of all time. No one can write a meanie quite like a K-drama writer. This cast was solid. Veteran actors, and actors I haven't seen in a long time both came together to deliver a fresh drama that was just that...dramatic. I've never seen this concept before in K-dramas, so I was thrilled with it.

The characters were robust, and flowed back and forth between good and evil very smoothly. There were some epically sad moments that tear you heart out as well as some thoroughly evil moment that tear your hair out!

I recommend this drama for anyone who is looking for a new plot, truly...deeply evil characters, and the idea that hope can change the world. Also recommend it for anyone who loves Kim Sang Ho. His performance was stellar.

I do not know if I started to watch this drama with too much expectation or it was something else, but I am disappointed in many factors.

Well, let's start it. The very first scenes were awesome, they had strong acting and funny characters. I loved Dr. Kang (Kim Hye Eun) and Dr. Jeong Ddol Mi (Jung So Min) both rocked on this drama. I expected more from Kim Young Kwang with his main role character, it was not bad, but it was not good too. Supporting roles like Dr. Kang were shone more than the main character in many scenes.

The effects were HORRIBLE in many levels, destroyed buildings and streets seemed pretty much fake.
I'm going to emphasize the scene with pregnant being removed from the car, HER BELLY MOVED and it was so small even thou she was pregnant of TWINS (????????????????????????????) seriously how can a director let this pass.

Too many unnecessary scenes, with unnecessary characters overreactions. I am not saying those situation could not happen, I am just saying that they could have thought in some situation more attractive to watch.

Good story, but not very good executed.

I thought that this drama won't be so good, but it was amazing! Recently I haven't seen any medical drama which would be so interesting as it.

Everytime I start watching a Drama with a hope that it will be a perfect 10 and that it wouldn't drag on, but at this point I feel like it's some kind of virus that Dramas just have. D-Day was my first Drama which heavily focused on the Medical genre and oh boy it delivered some excellent moments.

Story: The setting is interesting and original. The fact that Seul suffered an earthquake and is now isolated is thrilling in itself. The story is amazing most of the time, but from 15 episode or so even thought it wasn't terrible it felt like it was going in circles with some exceptions. D-Day isn't a Drama that will leave you shaking but it has just enough amount of thrill.

There was one thing that kind of bothered me a little bit but most of you...ok lets be honest I was the only one who noticed this. The line between good and evil was very clear in this drama. Well there were some exceptions but most of the time it was. When disaster happens and everyone is fighting for themselves the line between good and bad should become blurry. It's not something that lessens the quality of D-Day but I would have liked it to be more thought provoking.

Characters: Lee Hae Seong was of course an interesting main character and an eye candy to follow. Seeing him overcome these horrible times and grow was an excellent experience. To sum it up everyones characters developed nicely, especially Han Woo Jin. Now Jung Ddol Mi was just bland. Watching the Drama I didn't notice how much of a nothing she was, but now when I look back her character was built in the first two episodes and that was it. She wasn't annoying or anything, her personality was quite interesting but she was just left behind. To be honest I would only consider Lee Hae Seong as the main character. Sure there were other characters who got just as much screen time as him but the main focus was always on him and it is such a waste while at the same time a good thing.
Now the romantic sub plot...There were a lot of cute moments between Lee Hae Seong and Jung Ddol Mi but it felt like the writers didn't know if they wanted the characters to have a romantic relationship. They gave us hope that they like each other very quickly and then just left us hanging for the major part of the drama. So sadly in the end the chemistry just faded and the romance felt forced. Other couples were fine.

Music: Fit well but nothing special.

Overall: D-Day wasn't perfect but it was still very entertaining. I would recommend it to people who like stories about disasters and the Medical genre, because you'll see a lot of surgeries. Btw Kim Young Kwang is just perfect ;)

Okay, Here i go ! When i was going to start this many comments and reviews were so negative that i lost interest ! But despite all that i give it a try ! And it hit me like 'boom' !

First of all this drama concept is unique ! Characters are perfect on their role. And don't get distracted by those tags ! It also has some sad and tragic part as well ! In all i loved this drama

As i said earlier it has a unique story line. It will definitely hook you up to the end ! Thrilling and exciting stories are always favorite for many. But Romance is much less on this Drama ! It's a hardcore MEDICAL drama with so many patients and surgeries ! You will witness the stress and workload of Medical Staffs !

Main Artists were perfect on their roles. Even side roles and supportive cast was very good ! Junior artists also played key roles in this drama ! Their acting was so realistic !

Music was average ! those OST was good ! I won't say much.

Those who rewatch dramas can rewatch ! Personally i don't like to waste my time on rewatching !

Medical, disaster, action, thriller and even romance...I mean what else do you need?

This drama was pretty epic with insane plot twists and realistic acting. For me this was perfect, because of four reasons:
1) I like medical dramas
2) I like good action sequences
3) I like good realistic romance that does not disturb the main plot
4) Big fan of fictional plots especially disaster situations.

So if all these pointers are also what you are looking for, you should really go ahead and give it a watch with an open mind. All the characters were given a satisfying ending leaving practically no loose ends. Happy that there were no long and dragging "go back to the past" sequences and just enough to keep the story going. This plot made me emotional, shocked me, made me hate some characters and later rethink my hatred for them, reminded me of a disaster I've been through and yes, it was one hell of a roller coaster ride that I binged within 24 hours without having to forward much.
100% recommend watching it!

Simply awesome drama!!

I wasn't inspired by the synopsis (hospital medical teams, firefighters, politicians, etc. dealing with a big earthquake in Seoul), so I put off watching this high-ranked drama for a long time.
Well, it totally deserves all the praise it's received... At least!

The story is coherent, well conducted, the psychology of the characters, their words, their behavior, are realistic. The themes addressed, subtly, are broad: life, suffering, death, mourning, courage, solidarity, sacrifice, meaning of life...
The cast is great, with wonderful actors, all of them including the many secondary characters.
Now let's talk about the CL. They have intense interactions, an extraordinary complicity (despite the all too rare intimate or cute moments). OK, the ML has a ridiculous hairstyle, but even so, he's adorable!
My only regret is that the ending was a little too abrupt. I would have liked to see the CL be finally peaceful, more intimate longer.

The music, epic, sometimes grandiose, is worthy of the circumstances.
The sets, the special effects are realistic, including the disaster scenes. The production is dynamic (nothing superfluous, no length, etc.).

Watch this drama without hesitation (don't do like me :), you will go through all the emotions, smile, fear, anguish, sadness (the death of the little brother brought me to tears and yet I don't cry often), nervousness , anger,... And like me, you will find it hard to leave these characters.

I will certainly watch it again and I strongly recommend it to all those who are not afraid to stay 2 days glued to their screen (because it will be the case from the viewing of the 1st episode).

Half a D-Day

Doctors working during a disastrous scenario is an interesting take on the medical genre and it worked, at least for the 1st half. Resources were limited, the tension was intense and the stakes were high. It created a good mix for a thriller. However, things began to turn back into a regular medical drama in the 2nd half, it even brought with it the typical issues and conflicts with a hospital management. It slowly began to lose its attraction at that point. The brief romance was strange, it didn't work because it happened over a very short period of time. You may justify it as a little trauma bonding experience. The cast were mostly fine, however, the characters often went for over-dramatization over professionalism which took away from some of the serious moments. The drama could've worked better if it were a mini series of something like 8 episodes with good direction.

Around the end, they brought a little girl to translate sign language of the ML's brother final moments before death. Nobody thought how that might be traumatizing for a child to watch a recording of someone drowning and dying in a distressful situation until he become a floating corpse deep underwater!! There were a lot of other examples were the characters went for over-dramatization over professionalism.

Kim Young Kwang is amazing in this show. White Christmas is one of my favorite shows, and his bully sociopath role was so deeply etched in my brain it took me about seven episodes to finally not see an imprint of his evil face which definitely says something about his acting skills. He's definitely talented. He's also extremely handsome, and that hair... loved it!!! He's got an incredible presence and does a great job as the main lead, Dr. Lee, a skilled surgeon whose constant rebellion starts costing him his job when the sociopath Hospital Director who runs Mirae Hospital, treats the hospital as a business. But there are some people who still support Dr. Lee because of his humanist nature. And then the earthquake hits Seoul and everything is disaster. Everyone is trying to survive but surviving in that way often brings out the worst in people and that's what this story is about. How even if you're terrified you shouldn't let go of your humanity because that's what makes you human. I liked the family aspect but I wish the brothers had more interactions even if they were fighting. Another thing that didn't work for me was the main female lead. I just found her presence annoying in general. And even their romance seemed to have been thrown in and wasn’t exactly anything I was too excited about. But despite all this, I found this show consistently good, which I can't say for a lot of other shows. Another thing that kept me hooked was that it was fast paced, constant action, and they did the disaster part so well!!!! The hospital wasn’t just the only thing, but since the brother was a fire fighter first responder, I really appreciated their struggles and stories as well. I think it’s good they gave you a lot of new perspective on the dire situations rescue teams and first responders are frequently in, with or without natural disaster. The two people I really got hooked to them, were the robot surgery specialist and the directors daughter. Dr Hans story really brought me to tears in the later episodes after seeing him constantly siding with the Director and being against Dr. Lee's rebellious behavior. All in all, entertaining, and didn't bore me.

I just fell in love with Kim Young Kwang

Although 20 episodes are too much, some episodes are just fillers. I still think is pretty darn good.

I am a big fan of hospital dramas, I really loved how they filmed/edited the surgery scenes it still looks realistic without showing the actual cutting of the skin. Some people cant even withstand watching blood even from prostetics.

D-Day also made me cry many times. Some heartbreaking scenes really hurts.

Also, the real reason I watched this is because of Ha Seok Jin, I did not expect to fall in love with Kim Young Kwang, I will be watching his dramas starting today.

The earthquake scene brought back so many memories from me. This series will have a special place in my heart.
I totally recommend watching this! Its worth your time!
