Both are about a society who forces pupils to fight each other till dead.
In Battle Royale everyone wants to survive, in Tokyo Gore School everyone wants to hide their secrets, even if it costs the life of their friends.

This drama is also about a group of students that have to fight each other in the middle of nowhere in order to survive. Great acting and in-depth characters. Very interesting to watch!

Both are the most original ideas you'll find anywhere. Both are brilliantly scripted and dark. Both deliver complex stories with children against the world.

Very similar stores, about the classmates who were forced to kill each other.

These 2 are pretty similar in context, Close your Eyes being more story oriented.
Both are a good watch, enjoy.

Both deal with social issues in contemporary Japan, especially on the breakdown of family due to inter-generational conflict.

The idea of pitting student vs. student, instead of a government plan as a individual in charge of a hostage situation. Similar atmosphere between both sets of students.

A group of ninth-grade students from a Japanese high school have been forced by legislation to compete in a Battle Royale. The students are taken to an abandoned island, each given a bag with a randomly selected weapon and a few rations of food and water and sent off to kill each other in a no-holds-barred (with a few minor rules) game to the death, which means that the students have three days to kill each other until one survives--or they all die.

Students locked in a mysterious place and forced to kill each other.
Gore and mysterious. One is a drama, the other a movie.
