The drama lacked heavily in depth. The character development was preety slow. The show had much potential to do better but fell short because of the storyline and seemed to be dragging around ep 8/9 :|

The osts weren't that bad, but definitely not something memorable. I had to force myself to complete it and see how it ends. But then the ending too was loosely wrapped up and wasn't any better than the rest of the show.

As a lead actress, Shin se kyung was a bad choice and Nam Joo hyuk's casting was a complete waste of potential. There is almost no chemistry between the leads and somehow I liked the second couple more than the main one.

While Nam JooHyuk and Shin se kyung was a huge disappointment, Crystal and Gong Myung was surprisingly better than the entire show. And even though I like Nam Joo Hyuk, his presence didn't make the drama any better :'(

Good but could be better

the reason I watched this drama is bc im a fan of nam joo hyuk and shin se kyung, so seeing them work on a project together was exciting. bc of this, my opinion of the drama may be slightly biased (i also didn't read the original story) so take my review with a grain of salt
for acting, i think all the actors were great, including the side characters, esp the antagonist, and comedic relief was provided. however, they definitely could've embodied the characters a little better bc sometimes they're a bit more awkward than i would expect from a god. I've seen a lot of people say the chemistry between the couple wasn't good or there was no spark, but i personally think they worked together really well.
the fault is in the character development which i guess the main characters had some arch, mainly haebak. what i expected was a story more focused on the whole god part but in the end it's just a romance with plotholes with some confusing parts about who's a god and who's not. there was definitely a lot of potential for shin hoo ye's character arch but music wise i really love the ost for this drama esp glass bridge, that ones a masterpiece
overall, i would go back to watch it (i have tried many times actually) i just never finish it once i start rewatching it i recommend it if you like romcoms but don't hold expectations to the fantasy part of the drama

Ah, where do I began? I had originally planned to not watch this show, why? Well I read the reviews here and everyone said it was not good and that the plot was just not it, that is has many plot wholes.

I started watching it after finishing the King Eternal, since I finished it before my given time (I give myself a week after the shows finishes airing to finish it, or half a week if the show is not airing (that is fully available). So I started watching this, and I was very judgmental of it while watching it because of the reviews I read.

Honestly, from my experience and this is my personal opinion, there are no plot holes. There are things that are left unanswered until the end but they are tied up nicely. Everything made sense, everything. I did not read the manhwa or plan to read it so I had no previous knowledge. I don't mean to come off as rude in any way, but the bad reviews really make it seem like a bad kdrama when is really not.

If you simple, straight to the point, happy ending kdramas than I recommend you to watch this, you'll go through the first 6 episodes like is fresh bred, very quickly.

So this was the critically panned Bride Of Habaek. I must say that I didn't see much of the criticism that most people throw at this drama. Perhaps it's the lack of expectations that I had going into this drama but I liked it and thought it was pretty interesting to watch, albeit with flaws. It's not a classic mythical drama like Goblin or any of its contemporaries but I enjoyed myself nonetheless.

The story was barebones and empty. The plot was basically Habaek waiting for a fellow Deity to show up so he could return to the Godly World and claim his birthright as King. That's really it as far as the actual plot is concerned. So it's not faithful to the source material, of which I know nothing of, rather it's a backdrop to Habaek and Yoon So Ah, a servant to the gods via descendent lineage, and their blossoming relationship. Thankfully, I found it compelling to watch and thought they worked off each other well. Habaek is a god but he is without his powers and has to rely on a depressed and cynical Therapist for even the simplest of tasks despite Habaek’s intellect - driving, working part time jobs, cooking, etc. Habaek is arrogant - a main criticism of the character - but he is a God. A King. Of course he is arrogant, and he should be, however he does learn how to be humble towards others. Habaek learns the importance of kinship. That's a good message and a good story arc for such a narcissist. Naturally, the relationship between our two main leads has a bumpy ride to go on thanks to our other three Gods (Or 2 Gods and one Demigod, to be specific), Mu Ra, Bi Ryum and Shin Hoo Ye. Those three were the stronger characters in terms of depth and were worth watching as well. To get on the negatives of the series, I'll talk about the last episode. I simply didn't buy it unfortunately. Quite simple. Yes, this is a world that contains Deities, but it felt a little forced and clichéd, although I do think that was more on the rushed pacing of the final episode rather than the actual conclusion which was sweet.

The acting gets a lot of flack, too. I can see why. Perhaps Shin Se Kyung was a tame and relied on tears a bit too much but I thought she did a fine job at portraying a cynical, materialistic character and made her likeable and relatable. She and Nam Joo Hyuk worked well as our leading couple. Nam Joo Hyuk played his character really well also. He wasn't emotionally sharp but the subtle moments were delivered with conviction. Krystal and Im Joo Hwan were really good throughout the show, in particular. Solid acting from all the important actors, in my opinion.

So yes. This was a fine drama. I said it.

This is just my personal opinion. Not everyone has to agree with this :)

I will keep this short. I don't know why people didn't like the plot or the acting. For me, the plot was interesting and simple, it was nowhere near boring. This was not a complicated drama. It had everything- romance, comedy, fantasy, sadness, and friendship. It is a light drama with a good story.
This was my first time watching all the actors in this drama and I loved them! Everyone acted out their role perfectly. I especially loved, absolutely loved Shin Hu-ye (Lim Ju-Hwan) in this drama. His role and his acting were amazing.
I would suggest everyone to give it a try at least once. Everyone has their own preferences, but I think you might enjoy it!

Loved it; But somehow found BORING too

I always like fantasy romance dramas cause we won't be able to get those kind of things in our real life BUT,
this series gave me boring vibes in some episodes,
the last episode I found them too boring sometimes since the story flow like a river which is too close to end it's journey. story kept going, I kept watching, Huh! it's the end. I was wondering that's it:?
This is how I felt
Again BUT,
all the first part , I really loved them, His waiting until her return, and cringy moments,
Yup they were their also.
Comedy, of course there were comedy too,
It's a super Rom Com drama only if the last part of the drama got little interested like the start of the drama,
That's why I said it's like a River. Starting , WOW! best ..
Ending, yup it's WOW ! too.
but the last episodes were really boring for me

But you should watch this drama Cause it's a BEST if the ending episodes were good...

HOPE YOU'LL WATCH THIS DRAMA..

FANTACY ROMANCE HERE YOU GO!!!

Loved this drama

I loved this drama. I don’t know why there’s so many negative reviews.
The female lead was a bit annoying- her attitude and character wasn’t great. It was hard to be on her team when her personality was just so nasty.. but at the same time I don’t know if this was her acting or just her role.
But
Make lead was awesome as expected. I loved the flash backs and the story of the gods. I thought the idea and story were pretty good. It was something different from other dramas that I enjoyed.

I thought the chemistry was good. It was better than a lot of dramas I’ve seen, I don’t think it deserves the bad score I’m seeing in other reviews though!
All in all it’s a drama I really liked, one of my favs actually!

You gonna enjoy this drama because of NAM JOO HYUK ♡

At first I literally like this drama but then it become frustrating. The casts and acting were amazing and i praised it. i did not really liked the story line. my journey with this drama was like happy and sad at the same movement. till the last episode i was happy watching this drama and at same time i was sad that he cannot be with FL. I literally dont liked ending, ending should be more with happy moments. and she wish to god to stay with him until she die and he cant die because he is god and imortal. what will happen after she died? he is gonna be alone . i gave 6.0/10 because some moments were so heartouching and emotional. loved some scene. you can give it a try because of casts and those amazing scenes.. ♥♥

ok drama watch it for the actor/actress

Watched it one weekend and finished it. Like everyone has said, it's not going to win any awards in the plot department but its an ok drama considering how i didn't drop it. I am a huge fan of shin sekyung, She is so pretty. Acting wise I actually felt that she improved. Her tearing up scenes were on point. At other times, i felt that she didnt know what she was doing but nam joohyuk wasn't able to help her out either. It's mainly about a god who had to complete a mission in the human world. He ended up losing his powers and had to get the help of a human girl and ended up falling in love with her. Shinsekyung plays a psychiatrist who thought namjookyuk is mentally ills and helps him out.

Watch it for the actors. They have an incredible lineup of goodlooking actresses and actors. Nam joohyuk and Krystal really did look like gods. The main leads kiss scene were also really good. It's not something that I would rewatch, but considered how i didn't drop it, I think it was good enough. I have definitely watch worse cdramas.

Gah. The plot is such a huge disappointment or maybe I misunderstood who the real protagonist is?

I got intrigued by this drama because it is based on a famous manhwa. A year before the drama got released, Nam Joo Hyuk was in talks of being Haebak so I got more excited. I tried reading the manhwa however there are like 20+ volumes with 30 chapters each and I cannot take it anymore so I dropped reading. I thought the writer and PD will adapt the plot from the manga but they decided to do a spin off in modern times. I crossed my fingers that the drama will still be fine without the sageuk genre.

The drama starts off pretty great but later on the story got dragged with the plot focusing in the human world.

I expected a clash between the deities but all I got is a series of contemplation of Habaek and So Ah whether to let themselves fall in love when they already know that their relationship will be short-lived. There are also lots of cute moments between the two protagonists that I got sick of it. Hu Ye joins them just to shake some things up.

I anticipated to discover the secrets each of the characters are hiding. But by the time the secrets were revealed, I just got more frustrated because it did not cause any major conflict to the story. The actors’ lines were also not that strong enough to give me the ‘feels’. I always felt that it’s lacking.

The only reason that I gave this drama a three-star review is because the final episode was shocking and astonishing. No one would have ever see that coming. I bet the writer submitted that idea and got told to just drag the story to make it a 16-episode drama. The ending also made me realize that the story is not really all about the the gods and goddesses, it is about So Ah – the bride of the water god. Everything made sense because of that finale.

I found the plot interesting to watch this kdrama, especially the back story of Habaek.

Partly, it is a story of gods/deities who are vain, greedy, vengeful, and selfish. Good thing its just a fantasy drama, LOL. They should instead have been depicted as goblins rather than gods.

The way the story developed was quite disappointing for me. Some episodes were engrossing but some were dragging as if they were included just to extend it into a 16-episode drama.

Although, there are two saving graces: the casts' visuals and the superb acting of Im Joo Hwan.

The cinematography is impressive.

Now, I understand the mixed perception.
Overall, I give it a 7.5 rating.

A lackluster drama

Well, this drama was a bit underwhelming, albeit still entertaining. The plot had so much potential, but it's not very well developed and ends up being just average. I wish they had shown more about the realm of the gods and how their society worked, but unfortuntely that remained unexplored, maybe even due to a limited budget, I don't know. The ending is also very predictable and the conflict was resolved in such a simple way I wonder if So Ah really needed to have used her wish for that. Also, the title of the show is barely justified by the story.

I mainly decided to watch this because of Nam Joo Hyuk, but his performance here is not as astounding as in other works I've seen him in, but it's not just his fault as Ha Baek wasn't that deep or compelling. Same for So Ah, not terrible, but not a remarkable character either. I felt they lacked a bit of chemistry, although they do share some nice kiss scenes.

The CGI was terrible and cringe-worthy, which makes me question why they did some swimming scenes with CGI instead of just putting the actors to actually swim.

A pretty forgettable show, I would recommend this only in case you have nothing else to see.
