Nothing exciting

Issue identified - A little help from his friends - Kidnapping - Issue solved. This is the repeating pattern of this drama storytelling, and there were 5 or 6 issues that where solved with the same boring, uninspired sequence of events. After episode 10 I was straggling to complete this show because there wasn't any stimulation. There was no other interesting aspect apart from the humorous acting. The story was based on a boyish rivalry. The bad guy was always sitting in an armchair, scolding his subordinates repeating the same dialogues. The female lead role was flat. Unfortunately I was expecting much more since the popularity and the ranking were high.

I really love this one...it was different...FUN!!! How hard sometimes its for the workers to go against the interest of the big corporations, how easy and corrupt can be the power and also the law. Story develop pretty well. The loyalty of some employees to their manager etc...Some scenes are extremely funny and the music, keep you moving! Its just fun to watch...:)

This drama is outstanding. The characters and story line are well developed. This is one of the best comedy drama I have seen this year. This drama is super funny and heartwarming. I loved it. I especially loved "Chief Kim"(character), as well as the actor himself. I will watch this drama again.

If you are looking for laughter, humor, a good comedy story and great actors; you must watch this drama. Believe me it will raise your spirits and put you in a great mood. Laughter is the greatest medicine of them all.

I usually don't bother writing reviews but for this one I just have to. Really recommend this drama to anyone whether you're into this type of genre or not.
I had some doubts when I first picked up this drama as reading the plot didn't really pull me into watching, but nonetheless I started watching because of some of the actors.
After watching a few episodes, the doubts I had in the beginning completely disappeared. This drama is by far one of my favourite dramas ever, probably in my top 5.
The plot line was well illustrated as well as the characters. The character development is 10/10 in this drama as it does not miss out on anyone and gives each character a chance to shine whether as the villain or the hero. I loved every second of it and felt a sense of victory when Chief Kim and the Business Operation team (and of course everyone else on their team) did well.
From beginning to end this drama was fully satisfying. Many dramas tend to not give a satisfying ending even with a well written plot but not this one, this ending was very satisfying while answering all our questions.
Well written, well produced, the plot was not rushed. Loved all the characters and the actors in this drama, definitely a round of applause for the whole cast.

A funny show. A bit over the top once in a while but only enough for it to be funny & entertaining. Great story line & I LOVED the fact that they didn't add an unnecessary love line. I loved that I was able to focus on the story & the characters. I didn't have to watch a forced love line.

Don't JUDGE the book by its ROTTEN COVER better than vincenzo

is it just me?? We need a second season for Chief Kim this drama is one of the Best KDRAMAS thats not a Romance based kind of drama , fck straight romance when you can have BROMANCE between Namgoong(Chief Kim) and LJH (Seojul) they are so cute together ther chemistry are so top notch they are like a bread and butter that can never been sepearated from each other, the comedy is really natural i always laugh on every episode and not a single episode is trash and i like the drama when its fast paced, and also the plot is very unique it reminds me of Vincenzo but less romance and in an office setting with no violence (or people get killed lmao) . Still one of the best ANTI HEROS K DRAMA SO FAR !!!! Lesson learned: Dont judge other people from ther outer appearance or ther educational background or whatsoever, but judge them based on ther performance or behavior that they will show to other people. Remember: Nobody is perfect we are just only human why not give that person(like Chief Kim) a second chance to change to become a better or decent people. That's all tysm!!! DEFINITELY RECOMMEND who just finished Vincenzo!!!

Chief Kim honestly was the best drama I've seen so far. It impressed me on many levels, and will forever stay one of my top dramas, no matter what I'll watch in the future. I surely will miss it, and I surely will watch it again some day, when I miss Mr. Righteous and his sassy prosecutor bro.

This drama did everything perfectly fine. The story is deep, full of secrets and conspiracies, a lot of drama amd plot twists. It is perfectly combined with the serious business environment - if you easily get tired by economical terms, you won't like this drama. But one could think now, that mix of deep story and serious business life would be annoying after some time. Well, it isn't. Not all all. Because of two simple reasons:

1. I promise you - no, I swear by Myung Seok's fancy suits - there won't be a single episode where you don't have to laugh. The comedy and funny moments are perfectly implemented and executed, there's no moment when it seems odd and it's always weirdly fitting and satisfying to watch. Witty, sassy, direct. The sense of humor of the producers is definitely amazing.

2. The cast is perfect. I seriously have no single complaint. Nam Goong Min is an incredible actor, I can't imagine someone who could play this role better than he does. He perfectly acts out that direct, weird, (hot), funny, witty and determined Chief, his facial expressions and voice acting deserve an oscar.
Lee Junho as sassy director gave me goosebumps - never ever have I imagined my lovely 2PM boy to be such an amazing actor, playing the role of that really smart, really fancy, really dangerous, (really hot), really hot tempered young financial director, who's actually secretly not as evil as he pretends to be.
Also the support roles are amazing. Especially Myung Seok, the chairman's son, made it hard for me to not fall in love with him. Let's be honest, one cannot not fall in love with him. Be prepared for it.

Actually, I could give you millions of reasons why this drama is a MUST-watch: men in suits (really good fittiing suits), the amount of funny gifs one can make out of this drama, the OST which is a true blessing, and and and...Oh wait. Before I forget it: #Bromance. Come on, we all know ya all never say no to a good bromance. And I can assure you, this is definitely the best love-hate-relationship to bromance story I've ever seen. You naturally ship them. You have to. I mean, after all, Chief Kim ships themselves REALLY obviously (I just say: KISS and CUDDLE). If you're searching for a serious romance between a man and a woman, you won't be happy with this drama. It doesn't focus on romance at all. There are some side stories, there are some hints on possible romances, but nothing world changing. Bromance ftw my friends. If you need a break from clichee-like lovey dovey romances and oddly perfect lovestories, watch this and you'll be the happiest human being on earth.

I'm writing this review minutes after I watched the last episode of a drama. My heart is aching because this wonderful drama is now finished, on the other side I'm incredibly satisfied with the whole drama and also its ending. I would love seeing a season two, and until then I'll just keep it in mind as my favorite drama, which made me really happy - and which made me cry like a little baby out of happiness.

20 hours gone :(

I just don't know why this drama has such high rating!!

This drama was supposed to be a cat & mouse game between the corporate high executives and lowly but dedicated workers. I found the gamesmanship to be silly and predictable.

The drama did not to be 20 hours long!! There was a little depth to the characters and it was never justified as to why the chairman simply a bad person and why his wife was so helpless!!

In my opinion, spend your time watching something more entertaining. I bored my through the 20 hours simply to see the end.

The Cast is Better than the Storyline

I think the scores are so high because of the MLs’ enormous popularity as well as a really fine cast. On this level, I did enjoy myself watching the actors have a great time with their parts. The problem for me is the writing is uneven, with too much repetition, some frankly boring scenes esp at the beginning that stretched, and way too many episodes. This series would have been stronger if much shorter and better focused. I had an okay time watching it, but—though I love both the leads—I would never watch it again, and that’s my personal test case for a great film or series.

In all honestly, I started this drama reluctantly, but I do really love comedy, so even though the office setting didn't interest me, the high ratings and comedy tag encouraged me to try it. I don't regret watching Chief Kim, but I won't watch it again.

Episodes 1 through 4 were pretty boring with building the setting and introducing characters. BUT, I did get sucked into the drama by about episode 8.
What I'm most disappointed about is how this drama is referred to as one of the best bromances of all dramas, but I just don't see it. I mean, yes, once the 2 MMC's, Chief Kim and Director/Prosecutor Seo ally they have a bromance, but it only starts after episode 17...out of 20 episodes!!! I was *most* interested in watching their dynamics, but Director Seo was a straight up bastard for more than 3/4 of the drama, and while his character is redeemed and I'm satisfied with his character development, the BROMANCE of this drama is severely lacking literally in duration. And I get that the writers needed to build their relationship and dynamics to have a good bromance, but jeez this just took too long. Chief Kim and Director Seo were who I was here for and 4 episodes just wasn't enough for me. *sigh* I will admit though, once the bromance officially started at episode 17, the way Director Seo loses his temper whenever Chief Kim tried to be romantic toward him just cracked me up. I rewatched those scenes at least 3 times before moving on. XD

While on the topic of Director Seo, who was originally Prosecutor Seo: his backstory is pretty weak. Him going from a very successful, ruthless prosecutor to a corrupt Director of a huge conglomerate just doesn't satisfy me as a viewer. The reasoning he changes career paths is because he wants to use his law knowledge to outsmart the law and make it big in the business world....it's just such a flimsy motivation. It lacks sincere backstory....
Now that I think about it, Chief Kim's backstory is pretty flimsy too. We see his childhood and father in some brief flashbacks that imply their impacts on his conning profession, but they're not well flushed out. Hmm..

What I *did* really love is the CEO's son, Myeong Seok. His character growth was so well portrayed; he truly grew up for the better by the end of the story. And he was such a sweet guy by the end of the last episode. I adored watching him going from this spoiled, unloved child to being productive and developing friendships and loyalties after being recognized for his contributions.

The OST is also pretty great! I really liked the theme song, "Must Be The Money" by DinDin - whenever it started up, I always knew they were getting down to business :D. I also enjoyed "Will You Love Me" by Gilgu Binggu & Kim So Hee - a very nice romantic melody. "Dreaming" by Seo Young Eun was perfect for the more melancholy scenes. And my absolute favorite was the instrumental piece, "Here Comes The Chief Kim" - the rhythm, instruments, and pensive tune just resonate with me.

The ending was also truly satisfying and wrapped up all the loose ends. We get a "1 year later" epilogue and each character has their conclusion nice and neat. I like that Director Seo is happy and I like the implied romance left there for him.

So, in conclusion, like I said already, I won't be rewatching this and I likely won't recommend it to anyone because even though I generally liked it, overall it's just meh, despite what the raving reviews imply. If you are considering this drama because of the bromance, I would encourage you to reconsider. This drama is more about how you change as a person when you begin to care for those around you. The two MMC's both changed, for the better, during the duration of this drama because they developed attachments to those around them, wanted to protect them, and in the end, took down the bad guys. In this regard, even though it takes 20 episodes, it was a good story.

Chief Kim AKA Good Manager

Oh Namgoong Min. What can I say? I love this man. He's a delightful actor. In Chief Kim, he plays Kim Sung Ryong, a former accountant for mobster types sort of turning over a new leaf. His character is smarmy and over the top and utterly lovable. This show is very much about corporate politics and corruption and the redemption of two men. I was a little bit worried that they were going to make it into a basic love triangle, but was actually really satisfied when that ended up not becoming the case. The second lead in this show is really Lee Jun Ho as Seo Yool, who starts out pretty darn despicable and rotten and is the foil for Namgoong Min's Chief Kim. Nam Sang Mi plays Yoon Ha Kyung, who thankfully ends up not being paired off with anyone. The plot lines and evil corporate shenanigans in this show are very often over the top in an almost makjang way, but just when it seems like this show is going to jump the shark, they reel it back in to the final, satisfying, rush to the finish line where the evil are punished, the good are rewarded, and the somewhat grey move forward with turning their lives around. It wraps up very satisfyingly and I was actually really pleased that it pretty much lacked a romance plot line. It didn't need one.

Even smarmy and over the top, Namgoong Min is pure joy to watch. I'm pretty sure he'd be on my list of actors that I'd pay to watch read the phone book.
