From bad to worse

I don't even know where to begin describing this series...

I won't discuss the acting, which was overalll very good. But poor them...they were given such a poor plot and characters to play.

Starting with Emma, she is the definition of unreasonable and not respecting Porsche's choices. Gets upset just because he is doing his internship far away and doesn't even stop to think about it before calling him to break up because "he didn't care about her". She is a uni student, I would expect a bit more maturity, but it seems that ran off along with her humbleness. Porsche didn't give any credit to himself either, always blaming himself for leaving Emma behind, when he was trying to make the best studies/work choices. Emma didn't deny any of his blame though... Honeslty, I was truly rooting for Emma and Night, because they deserved each other. They seemed to get along better and actually had similar purposes in a relationship. Emma didn't deserve Porsche. I still don't understand why she told Rome that she and Porsche were not together and so he should stop trying to set them up, and that she was kind of interested in Night, but then, by the end of the series,
Rome and Pick meddle again (?!?!) and she is suddenly interested in Porsche again, and he makes the poorest life decision by going back to Bangkok just to be with her, ignoring all his previously good decisions. Nothing. Makes. Sense. Porsche became a true puppy who goes after Emma for anything and Emma is a self centered and unreasonable brat.

I won't even comment on O. Overbearing and no boundaries seem like too nice words for him.

Friend seems like the only mature and truly nice person in the series. And she didn't deserve when Porsche gave away Street Cat to Emma on a whim, without even stopping to consider her feelings and the fact that she loved the cat and had a special bond. Great veterinarian Porsche is going to be...

Rome...well, starting in the previous series, he is clearly extremely naive, very gullible and has low self esteem. He lets Pick run all over him with his mood swings, his indecisiveness, his bully personality... I get that it was not easy for Pick to realise that you are suddenly attracted to the same gender and that may be confusing, but that's not an excuse to treat other people badly. When he was physically aggressive with Rome, throwing him against the car and yelling all kinds of things, I was shocked. Even more shocked when after that Rome reacted as though nothing had happened. The only good thing I saw was Pick trying to find Rome to apologise, but Rome seemed to be fine, oblivious to the fact that his crush is abusive. Rome's personality basically makes him prone to be bullied by anyone and have no boundaries. And Pick just goes along and uses him. I don't doubt that Pick actually had feelings for Rome, and that in other circumstances and with good and effective communication, their relationship could work out better. But honestly Pick didn't deserve Rome.
Also very ironic when Rome was worried and afraid of Din, because he was being pushy and didn't take no for an answer... When Rome did the exact same thing with Pick... Go figure. It was just a thoughtless plot detail to try and reveal that Din was also trying to set Rome and Pick apart.

It looks like I'm actually in the minority for this, but I feel like this season was better than the first season. The pace was far less rushed, and it felt more realistic overall. I would really recommend giving this season a chance if you were on the fence about the first season. Just watching two or so episodes should give you an idea of whether you'll like it or not.

It's not the most fascinating story, but it's cute and it's something to watch. If you're bored, there's no reason not to give it a go, but if you have more interesting dramas you want to check out, this one can definitely wait.

I feel there are a lot of areas where this series can improve, and I do hope for a third season to see where it would go.

Disappointed Season 2

Secret Love Puppy Honey Season 1 was cute and wholesome for all the characters but when season 2 came, it went downhill, the main leads are in a LDR relationship, they find it difficult to handle and ended up breaking up without actually talking about their problems face to face, honestly I was disappointed with the both of them, especially Emma, for me, she could've understood Porsche, as this was his dream, but she broke up with him with all the miscommunication, she coul have visited him along with Pick and Rome, while with Porsche, he didn't even visited Emma on her Birthday, he could've taken atleast a leave, I honestly love the side characters Namtaan and Krist, they are mixed up with the main couples problem which lead this two characters in disappointment while I really hoped that the season 2 was solely based on Rome and Pick, cause OffGun really helped this series, but we got a couple who have problems that they cannot even solve without the help of their friends which is a big no no, y'all having relationship to help each other and grow together, yes you can ask advice but when your friends are doing all the work in sorting your problems, damn y'all need communication, anyhow, I wish we saw more of Sing and Night being an antagonist lol. Overall, Season 2 was a let down periodt.

One of the OG (the sequel)

On my vintage BL-binge, this title (and the prequel, which I reviewed at the same time) can't be omitted. It's OffGun's first appearance as couple and they blow everyone else from the screen immediately.

The natural chemistry, the charisma and deliverance of both these guys is amazing. The other actors pale by comparison. Only Sing (as Din) can keep up with these two.

The main couple (that gave the series its title) are Porsche and Emma. Porsche is a good guy, maybe a little too good, and Emma is a standard college girl: sweet and innocent. Emmas family and Porsches club bring them together for the wrong reasons and these reasons come back to bite them in the ass and drive them apart (S2). Their friends Pick and Rome (OffGun) try to get them back together and form a bond of their own. However, Pick is an a**hole who is in rock-hard denial that he could be falling for a boy and so he treats Rome like sh*t. It takes am elaborate scheme from yet another boy to open his eyes and make him open up (S2).

Although I was quite fed up with Pick's horrible behavior, the interactions between him and Rome and his utter helplessness in dealing with all these feels he is feeling made me empathize as well. I was shouting at Rome to blow up at Pick already! But Rome keeps to his calm and introverted self. The only time his cheeky and lively personality comes out is when he is alone with either Emma or Pick (when pick is not picking on him).

This BL is an oldie for todays standards, but it is surprisingly not-cringy. There are many moments that hit me right in the feels and I could not help smiling at the end (of S2).

Season 1 was better

Honestly I feel like a s2 was not really needed since the main conflict of the story was already resolved in s1. Even if they decided to make another season there should have been more focus on PickRome relationship than the other couple. Honestly the inclusion of Friend and Night was just unnecessary and took up too much screentime. Night was just boring (sorry Krist) and Friend was too cilngy and annoying. They completely ruined Emma's and Porsche's relationship. Like Emma told Rome that she's always free but still can't visit her boyfriend even though she has a car. And Porsche was just really depressing this season like where is that happy and energetic guy from s1? The one we all knew and loved?? But his character change does make sense since he grew up, has relationship problems and has to work in a place away from his friends and family so idk what I'm mad about. I just loved this guy too much to see him be this sad so i am glad that he at least has Friend but his side as a friend. That's why I love the last ep since it has the same lighthearted and fun vibe that s1 had with everyone happy in it. Also there were wayyy less Emma and Rome interactions than s1 and i was very disappointed since that was the thing I loved the most about s1.

Pick and Rome's story was less problematic than i had thought it was going to be. And i LOVE how confident Rome is in his sexuality. They were honestly the only reason I even decided to watch this show so i am not that dissapointed. Some conflicts were unnecessary but overall it was ok. Would not rewatch this tho.

Where are the puppies?

Oof. I thought this is gonna be a bit more lovey-dovey, but it took 8 episodes to get there.

I hated how everyone is always siding with Rome. I get that Gun has a cute face and apparently people can’t stay mad long at sweet faces, but honestly I was at Pick’s side all the time. Rome drove me so mad, especially when Din got involved.
I knew Din would be trouble the moment he agreed to go on the trip with the two. I didn’t think he’d go that far, but it was predictable.

I said i didn’t ship Emma & Porsche in s1 and look what we got. It was so clear how their love for each other faded and i just wanted them to break up. I don’t ship them with the other characters, but it’s just so damn exhausting to watch 2 people forcing sth that is not there anymore.

Well, I just finished watching this second season and I must say I’m not that impressed but also not disappointed. There were some things that bothered me quite a lot but other scenes were really cute and the characters are still likeable. I chose not to write spoilers in this review so I won’t go too deep into it but i wish this had more episodes and we could get into the heart of the story more because some things were just unclear. I like PickRome so now I want to watch Our Skyy! Finally I’ll be able to watch the first episode haha.
Anyways, I watched both seasons of Puppy Love in less than two days even though I had school and work. So if you’re interested in it, go watch it! It’s really short and doesn’t have that much angst (even though this season was more... complicated). Don’t expect a lot and you’ll like it.

Cherreen aka Emma is not what I call a pretty girl, but she has her own charm. Thai actresses are of often more adaptive in their roles (as simple as they are), and she was probably the better actor of the show. She's cute and mature at the same time, portraying her character's insecurity and growth well. Probably more than Kang aka Porche, who doesn't have a strong role in S2 compare to S1. His personality switched over from persevering, passionate, honest animal lover to indecisive passive guy. Pik mentions this change to his buddy at some point too. A hint of possible upcoming infidelity all men, I say. LOL.

Two unchanging characters are Pik and Rome, if not closer in relationship. Off aka Pik impressed me in this series with his charisma and strong bad boy presence. He bitch slaps the hell out of people like no tomorrow. Gun aka Rome is no less manly despite his pretty appearance; he's quite direct and daring. Sometimes their interaction reminds me of Kongpop and Arthit (SOTUS). And of course, pleasant surprise of Krist appearance. His role may have been smaller, but he's ever so charming. Also nice to see Sing aka Din again since LOVE SICK.

I liked the shortness of the series, and enjoyed it even more than S1. First season was all cuteness due to start of every relationship, it's new and fun. S2 continues 3 years later where all relationships hit the bump along the road, therefore not so cute. I skimmed through Emma & Porche's scene, since they were as predictable as they come. Pike & Rome was more interesting.

Seriously, what happened with the second season? The first one was pretty cute, funny and enjoyable but this one was a mess. They completely ruined the main couple and I’m sorry but I couldn’t help but skip all of their scenes. I think we saw them in the same scene only from episode 6? Before this they barely talked to each other through the phone and they both had apparently new ‘love interests’ after they stopped talking to each other. I understand that long-distance relationships can be difficult but it seemed like they didn’t even try to make it work?
Also the friendships between Emma and Rome, and Porsche and Pick suddendly stopped existing, I was so sad because I loved the four of them in the s1 :(
Meanwhile I liked how the relationship between Pick and Rome evolved, even though the first one was a complete asshole but hey, I can forgive him because he was scared to admit his feelings. I was disappointed by how they handled that sort of ‘cheating’ because, yes, Din was behind all of it, but that doesn’t change the fact that Pick was talking to someone else while ‘dating’ Rome. I get that they weren’t official yet but I can’t help but think that he shouldn’t have treated Rome like this.
Overral, this was disappointing.
The whole plot of the first season was lost and most of the relationships were ruined, except for Rome and Pick. It wasn’t even funny like the previous one.
I think they could’ve handled this much better.

((Kudos for the acting tho, they were all very good))

Watching this was a struggle.

GMMTV has done it again! Take a bunch of loveable characters from one series and turn them into despicable little sh*ts in another! First of all, I LOVED the Puppy Honey prequel. It's a very shallow story yes, but the characters are just too loveable. The power of this series obviously lies in its characters than in its plot, soundtrack, direction or acting. So if you make these characters despicable, then what's the point of writing a sequel? It actually took me two months to finish watching the entire thing because I am just too uninterested to continue watching.

First, what happened to Porsche? In the prequel, this guy is just impossible to keep down. He has so many silly antics up his sleeve, and there's just too much energy bubbling inside him. In Puppy Honey 2, Porsche took a 180 degree turn. He was mostly brooding and morose to the point that Korn looks like he's lost all interest in playing the part. From a lively entertainer to one of the most boring leads in a show. What a transformation.

Second, what happened to Emma? Emma's appeal lies in her unyielding motivation to get over her trauma and make peace with the canine species, so when she achieved just that at the end of Puppy Honey, the writers of the sequel apparently had no idea what else is there for her to do. So they turned her into a needy, grumpy b*tch. Such lousy writing if I ever see one. And what is up with her tripping all the time? It was too cliché and stupid!

Third, what happened to Din? In the prequel he never actually had any lines or only had two lines max, but to suddenly transform him from an innocent student devoted to animals into a complete psycho? My God, what are these writers smoking???

I think it is very apparent that this sequel was made just to keep the OffGun ship sailing at the time. There really is nothing to see here but a continuation of the PickRome story, which was ended all too abruptly in the prequel. But I am confused as to why Pick and Rome reversed their roles in this series. Pick, who seems disinterested in Rome in the prequel, is the one doing the chasing now. Meanwhile, Rome, who used to be very reserved and careful, became too forward and direct in the sequel. Pick actually had more chemistry with Porsche in the prequel, and with the large absence of Porsche+Pick interactions in PH2, Off's character seems to have lost his magic. Like Porsche, he just looked miserable all the time. The same for Rome --- he worked well with Emma, but in the sequel, these two never actually met until the last 2 episodes. He also lost his appeal when this connection was severed. I think I started with the wrong OffGun series, because as much as I love these two individually, I never saw their spark in the roles of PickRome. Probably watching Theory of Love would change my perspective.

There are also two new characters introduced in PH2 -- Night and Friend. Night was probably the most one-dimensional character in the series, a victim of bad writing. There was nothing interesting about him really, except for the fact that he was played by Krist? To attest to his one-dimensionality, he was simply disposed like garbage at the end of the series after he served his purpose (which is to drive a wedge between Porsche and Emma). And then there's Friend. I think she was the only character that I actually liked in PH2. In her we see a girl pulling a happy face despite all the wrongs that the world did to her. Despite being named "Friend," she was lonesome and scared, and I really loved how Namtarn pulled off such a part. There's no chemistry between her and Porsche, but still she was a delight to watch. Her sad backstory really pulls on the heartstrings, and nothing in this series has affected me much more than that scene where she realizes that her cat is gone.

And lastly, why is this titled Puppy Honey 2 when there are no dogs to speak of? Puppy Honey played around with the concept so liberally, and it was completely abandoned in the sequel. Should've gone with a different title then!

All in all, this show is for solid OffGun fans only. If you loved the four-person gang in PH1 and really wanted to see them get back together again, then I'd recommend you to skip the entire series and go straight to the last 10 minutes of Episode 8 to get your fill.

My feelings on Season 2 are very mixed.

On the one hand, I loved that Pick and Rome got a whole lot more screen time, and watching their relationship develop was my favorite part of the drama. Pick getting jealous over Rome's club mate was definitely a treat, and I died each time Pick got protective over his baby (omg the last episode!! You'll know when you see it). Rome's sweet, more mature demeanor is such a good contrast to Pick's hotheaded, slightly immature one. This was the OffGun dynamic that I waited for in Season 1, and boy did they deliver in Season 2. I do wish that this series focused solely on them, however, because I think a lot could have been explored further, especially the elements of the plot that really tested the boys' relationship.

On the other hand, I got so incredibly bored with Emma and Porsche's story line. The drama between them was so contrived and disingenuous. It was like the writers wanted to cause friction between them but couldn't come up with something plausible based on what we saw in Season 1 (probably because there really isn't a basis for this season's drama) so they just threw something together real quick. Basically, Porsche takes an internship in a remote area away from Emma. Emma decides very early on that Porsche isn't spending enough time with her and she can't handle that so she breaks up with him. Uhh, excuse me?? You want him to choose you over his education and career? You can't handle being physically away from him temporarily (can still call and text)? Clearly she must not have liked him very much since she was so quick to dump him and start flirting with (leading on?) a new guy (Krist, i.e., Arthit from SOTUS, who has more chemistry with his SOTUS co-start Singto than he does with Cherreen). Bottom line: Emma became a very unlikable, unsympathetic character in Season 2, too needy and whiny, which contrasted noticeably with how she was portrayed in Season 1 (though Cherreen, the actress who plays her, was still charming in the role so I didn't find Emma to be completely despicable). Now, I didn't really stan this couple as I'm more of a BL junkie, so my heart wasn't broken over the drama. But because it felt so insincere, I found it really hard to get invested in their story and difficult to pay attention during their scenes. I also didn't like the message this plot line seemed to send.

I also felt like the pacing wasn't as good this season as it was in Season 1. Although this season had two more episodes than its predecessor, by the time we reached the final episode, I couldn't believe it. The climax for both couples came so late in the game, with the result that everything felt rushed in the final episode.

Final thoughts: Pick and Rome were the standout characters for me and if I were to watch this again, it would only be for their parts. If you're a huge fan of them and want to see more of their relationship, I would definitely recommend watching their parts. I think you can safely skip the rest of the story line without losing anything at all. If you're watching the series only for Emma and Porsche, you'll probably want to skip this season and stick with what was given in Season 1.
