Peppermint Candy (2000)

In both movies, you see a character who loses his humanity little by little.

Peppermint Candy shares the same structure and tone as Cities of Last Things. In the Korean film, major events in Korean history influenced his central character’s tortured soul.

Both were portraying tumultuous decades of South Korean history. A bit different approach but seeing the same object of history.
