Was Okay at Best!

The beginning of this drama really drew me in. You had a ghost that was out here controlling people and committing crimes. Sounded amazing. Show progressed and I was still enthralled however, the closer it got towards the end, the more ridiculous it felt. Main character was weak, couldn't really do anything to help them. The villain was wayyy too powerful, which made any bouts they had with her anti-climatic as you knew she would win again. The last few episodes of plotting and planning were boring and I wasn't really invested in the characters the last few episodes to be honest. And the ENDING WAS HORRIBLE too.

Save yourself the time, skip this one. Many of ghost detective dramas out there to see.

Sherlock and the Ghostbusters

I LOVED watching Daniel Choi in this drama, and appreciated his acting skills. He's the most photogenic, handsome, charistmatic K-actor. The cast and acting was on point. Some acting was overacting, but this is K-dramaland.

Too much detail was spent on Sun Woo-Hye and the flashbacks/flashbacking and singing. The constant loud singing in your "face" is so tiresome in the Asian dramas. If they had shown the sequence of events in chronological order, instead of flashbacking constantly, the story would have flowed effortlessly instead of listlessly like the ocean tides. This could have improved the Korea TV ratings significantly.

Some of the plot was confusing, confounded by the repetitive flashbacks and flashbacking. "I see you, Lee Da Il. I don't see you, Lee Da Il." Once the characters started talking directly to Lee Da Il, when they were not really seeing him, was a conspiracy among the Director, Scriptwriter and Film Editor. The story dragged in places, especially with Sun Woo-Hye on screen. The whole story could have been told in 16 30-minute episodes, or it could have been a very good 2-hour movie.

Spoiler: Lastly, the five years' time jump at the end! Really, Director? Really, Writer? This "love" story qualifies for the 1,000 or 10,000 years' old romance drama.

I'm giving this a 7. solely cuz Jeong Dae's actor is super cute and Choi Daniel looked mighty fine in his suits and shirts in this one XD

I literally lost interest in it in the last 3 episodes. I just wanted it to finish soon. By any chance of they did kill Jeong Dae I would have lost my shit I think. Although they did tease it alot, thank god he survived. The fact that this aired around the same time that The Guest aired was pretty bad. I guess all the horror dramas now look weak next to The Guest. But I will admit this is much better than the one with Song Ji Hyo. The villian at least looked shit scary here and she was actually an evil person.

Also another major plus point was the OST. Specially the one Yoon Mi Rae sand. It was simply beautiful. It's Yoon Mi Rae after all. Her voice makes all songs sound beautiful for me.

I really enjoyed about 40% of this drama. The beginning episodes, until right around Episode 6 or 7. Then, when it became clear that the entire story was going to revolve around pursuing the Woman in Red, and they kept going in circles, I started to lose steam. The only thing that kept me going for the next 10 episodes of the drama was the hope that Da Il would find and return to his body and finally get to have a life with Yeo Wool. But even that didn't happen. Yeo Wool and Da Il kept dancing around which one of them was going to sacrifice themselves to kill the Woman in Red, then Da Il finally took the plunge and killed his own body. I was angry when that happened, because there was a perfectly good option of the shaman girl doing something, but the writer decided "oh, suddenly she can't see or hear spirits anymore, all her powers are gone at just the wrong moment". Seriously?

The final scenes of the last episode also pissed me off. I had resigned myself to Da Il being dead for good. But no, he comes back as a ghost again and what? Stays by Yeo Wool's side as a ghost for the rest of her life? I was frustrated that this was the creative choice the writers went with. It was so dissatisfactory. There is no hope for this couple. He's stuck as a wandering spirit, and they can never progress further than "what could have been". That love and longing can never be resolved. If they had instead shown us a reincarnation of them as a couple meeting for the first time, then I wouldn't have been so disappointed.

It would have been so much better if this drama had picked a path and stuck with it: either go the way of "Bring It On, Ghost!" and revive Da Il with or without his memories, or simply never give the viewers the hope that he could come back alive. Just say "he's dead" and be done with it. I hated that we were strung along with the delicious idea that Da Il could survive the ordeal, just to have him play the Sacrificial Hero card.

I really wish I could recommend this drama. The first six or seven episodes were fascinating and gripping, with an excellent creep factor with the mystery of the Woman in Red. But the writer failed to deliver a satisfying middle or end to what could have been an amazing supernatural/mystery drama.

I love these types of dramas!

The story was just SOOOO good. I love how the villain's personality was grayish and she wasn't completely a bad person. There was a family type vibe in this series and I loved that too, on top of that it didn't have much romance and focused more on the crimes and the love between the characters. I also like how the second lead was happy in the end and didn't give me second lead syndrome.

The red dress girl's actress ( i keep forgetting names i should go to a doctor) is SO hot- sorry, I mean she's so good at acting. Seriously, she could portray the characters feelings so well. Also Lee Joo Young was so so so SOOO good in this. It might be because she's my first love and I love her more than myself that I think this way but I'm glad they casted her! I like how all the actors were amazing.

i forgot what the music was like but I didn't get mad everytime I heard it so it must be ok.

I'll definitely rewatch it when I have time.

Overall it was amazing! I say this in so many of my reviews but this drama isn't for people who get scared easily. This doesn't have a lot of romance either. Also i didn't know this drama was so sad, I cry easily (i dont get scared easily tho) so I think I finished a box of tissues watching this. But you should watch it if you like supernatural dramas with a family type theme.

plot caught me by surprise; magnetizing villain; slow-burn romance; great OST.

I really liked this drama!

The chemistry between our leads has a very natural progression that gives me butterflies in the right moments (like when he hugged her for the first time, when he tied her shoes and stepped closer, the way they look at each other, and worry for each other, etc). It burned hot and slow, and I really liked that. I found myself feeling sad for them in the moments that had the strongest chemistry because I knew they were likely fated to not be together because of the circumstances and they looked really great and natural together. I kept finding myself thinking, "oh, they'd make a great couple. they look so cute together" etc etc.

The plot runs at a steady pace and has its fill of suspense and horror. Trigger warning for anyone bothered by kids in duress- there are a few scenes here and I had to skip through them because I have PPA. I saw some criticism with the plot from others here, saying the plot lost its way or got slow but I never had that impression. In fact, I really liked the focus on finding Lee Da Il. It made me hopeful for a while (then crushed me later).

The OST is reallllly good. A few of the main songs that came on during high-tension moments always made me get super into the scene, and I liked the songs between the ML/FL. I definitely added the OST to my Spotify playlist.

Also, full disclosure, I'm a huggggggeeeeee fan of whump and this series has A L O T of it for Lee Da Il. Soooo, huge plus. ;)

the case of the magic fucking hearing aid

Honestly this drama is alr, it would of been better if we had a closed ending and an actual romance. I feel like the end was kinda confusing, how all of a sudden other people could see him was genuinely mind boggling. if he had been dead for a year after ‘sacrificing’ himself how come he only showed himself after she had came back. I really liked Chaewon, I think her character was so well written and had so much personality, but the police officer was so plain and boring, he added nothing to the story and had so much potential. I really wish sunwoo kept her red dress look as she was so much scarier that way than being in a ducking tutu with some randos stolen shoes. the doctor guy was insufferable and I’m so glad he died he deserved it. over all I think this drama is a good one to start with and is honestly kinda good. one thing that I will say is her sister was so irrelevant and why did she get over her death so quickly when she had only died a month ago yet was so calm. overall this drama is alr not the best but I did absolutely love the main couple and wished we would of got a kiss scene but ig not. watch this drama if you want to but your life won’t be over if you don’t.

Disappointing the story that could have been

This is a 2018 South Korean television mystery, horror romantic drama with 32, 30 minute, episodes.

Lee Da-il (Choi Daniel) has a detective agency where he helps to solve cases that the police are not thoroughly investigating. Private detectives are neither respected nor recognized by law enforcement which is why Da-il has to approach situations solo. After observing his success with a kidnap case, Jung Yeo-wool (Park Eun-bin) decides to get close to Da-il by serving as his assistant in the hopes he will help solve her younger sibling's bizarre death. A mysterious woman in red, Sunwoo Hye (Lee Ji-ah) appears at the crime scenes and seems to be involved in the victim’s deaths.

Spoiler ? I literally thought the male lead would be a detective who went after ghosts. As it turns out he is a detective who is a ghost and winds up needing Yeo-wool as he does not have physical ability to even open a door knob. The lady in red trashes him every time he comes around her. Yeo-wool develops feelings for the ghostly detective early and it is hard to understand as although he is nice not a lot is going on that would make her have loving feelings for him so that seemed too early and too much.

If you can get past the first quarter of the show it actually gets really interesting. The lady in red makes Damien from the Omen movies look fairly nice. You quickly start to wonder how anyone is going to be able to stop her. As you watch her creepy smile and hear the way she gets inside people’s heads to unlock their deepest fears about themselves the fear all of the characters have for her is completely legitimized. The relationship between the leads makes more sense and Da-Il becomes more of a force to reckon with.

So the middle was great but the ending was not. It is one of those where the leads can never fully be together. He was a ghost through the majority of the movie and then they found out that he was actually alive and a living spirit but you wondered if the serial killer was going to kill his body. They got through all of that found him, got him in the hospital in
and you’re thinking yeah he’s not doing so good sort of in a coma has some brain bleed but something miraculous will happen they’ll find a way to get rid of the ghost and he will return to his body. That is not what happens. In order to get rid of the ghost, or rather evil spirit, they had to trap it in someone’s body and then that person had to die. So guess who that was. So after doing the final heroic deed and getting unplugged from life support, Da-il is spotted by Yeo-wool and you think maybe he came to after he was off life support and none of his frienspds knew. Nope. He makes an appearance again as a ghost and she’s just like well just stay around until I feel like I can be without you. Then they all start doing this Ghostbusters thing and that just seems like the way it’s going to be. But then you’re like wait a minute the only way they could get rid of the one evil spirit was for someone to trap it in their body and then die. So are they just gonna find people that are on the verge of death who will invite the ghost Or evil spirit in so they can trap it and die? Or did they suddenly find a way to get rid of them other than that? So it was a weird ending that was really unsatisfying. I might forgive the slow beginning because the middle was so good but the ending of it brought the rank right back down for me. It’s worth watching if you like Supernatural just because she’s a really, really evil spirit. So it’s a good supernatural for the genre. But in terms of romance it lags because it really isn’t a happily ever after.

"Are you angry?" (that I watched this show? umm, yeah?)

On the surface, this show looks quite promising. Once you get past the poorly-chosen title that makes it sound like it will be a bad comedy, you're left with a dark drama full of vengeful spirits and people battling guilt over past failings and lost loved ones. The actors are good enough, the villain is deliciously evil, and the stakes are high for everyone involved.

So with everything it has going for it, why is it so BORING? This show is a cake baked with fine ingredients by an incompetent chef. The plots swerve and meander in cyclical ways that made me angry for having wasted my time. The story told here might have worked in 16 episodes, but stretched to 32 it becomes almost unbearable at times. The actors do what they can, and are pretty good taken individually, but there isn't much chemistry between them and the suggestions of any kind of romance amid the carnage fall flat. Lee Joo Young's coroner character seemed to hold the most promise to me, but was completely wasted to be used as a fount of expository jargon every time the writers needed to explain away some aspect of the supernatural they made up on the spot to drive the story in the direction they wanted.

In the ultimate of ironies, the final episode - an epilogue of sorts - ends up being far more exciting than the entire rest of the series. The episode plays out like a fast-paced teaser for another season, and the cast really seems to gel together for the very first time. About 31 episodes too late, but I guess it's better than never?

No

It's a mockery to the horror genre. A low budget indie horror movie from early 2000s would be infinitely better than this. It's equally as bad in being a mystery/thriller as well. The story was laughable without much structure and full of embarrassment and plot holes. Aside from the cast there's nothing to look at.

I don't think I feel entitled to write a review on this drama as I have only seen 4 episodes and there was barely anytime for me to form an opinion on this drama.

The sole reason why I was interested enough to watch it was because of Lee Joo Young.

I do believe I dropped this drama because I happened to be watching another drama at the same time. Personally, I have a really hard time liking mystery/crime dramas or shows because I think it's quite a genre to tackle (this comes from the fact that Castle is my favourite crime show so my expectations are quite high).

When I started to watch the show I honestly believed I would enjoy it. But as soon as they went to the nursery/school and the main character died but was living as a ghost...I don't know, I think everything was going to fast and seemed sudden.

I was actually forcing myself to watch it because I don't really like dropping dramas but nothing draw me back enough to continue.
