Not worth 30 episodes and Female Lead character was terrible! Awful screenwriting and directing

It was interesting at first to see the struggles of the Rui family kinda cinderalla -ish with multiple wives and sisters and a pathetic father. And interesting to watch the General's reaction to his new wife.

But kept thinking the FL character of Jin'er would get better but it was awful. She didn't grow or mature. It was a constant misunderstanding, scheming, whining, irritating stupidity that continued to make the General have to apologize and show his love to a ridiculously immature and annoyingly bratty girl that never evolved into a woman. She wouldn't see the big picture.

Stuck with it just to see who was the ultimate person behind all the killings, fire, etc. And the humor at the end was good and the idea that they meet in modern times was pretty interesting.

The ML was good looking and did a great job. Really liked Rou Rou's character and actress.

But overall it was a waste of time and not all that great when you're screaming at the screen "She is so stupid!"

Music: Memorable but nothing major
Scenery: Not bad
Costuming: Lots of beautiful period costumes
Fighting scenes: Well done and fun to watch

I love it

I stumbled upon this series because my YouTube feed had the theme song on it. I got curious about it after watching snippets of the show on the theme song played. This is my 2nd time watching Caeser Wu on screen - 1st was Meteor Garden - and I have to say it is pretty awesome! The story line is extremely fascinating, fantastic (only in my opinion) and extremely fun to watch. It has a combination of quirkiness, seriousness, "drama" and of course the female lead´s cheekiness. Combined with good acting from all the actors and actresses involved to the good music pairing, I would say this would be a nice series to watch.

Quite average

This drama is short compared to most Chinese drama and makes quite light-hearted entertainment. The drama started well but become yet another run-of-the-mill later in the story. There are not much heart rending moments and bad times pass quickly. If you are looking for a drama for some casual entertainment and not some heavy-hearted emotional roller coaster, this is it.

Contemporary Chinese dramas tend to present heroines who are shrews and strong headed and this is one of them. The heroine is pretty and won the heart of the hero, but she is such a strong-headed shrew - appeal to the feminism of this era. But if i were a man, i would find her a pain to be with.

This drama is overrated on Mydramalist. There are other better dramas which are much better than this, which deserves better ratings. I begin to wonder whether ratings were rigged by some viewers, or i have preferences that differ from the masses. Just cannot understand why such an average drama is rated at 8.1 when Legend of Fei and Legend of Xiao Chuo rated below 8; they are way better than this drama.

You should give it a try!

I loved the two main characters!Female lead was brave, funny, cute and thoughtful. She was not only a loving wife but also a soldier! I loved how she fell in love with her husband and did the best she could for him as a devoted wife from home, but also from the battlefield. Male lead was obviously very handsome and cold at first. He was suspicious of his wife but little by little fell in love with her. He became such a considerate and loving husband! I loved watching his cute face smiling at his wife!!!I adored the other supporting characters too. I liked that we didn't have a villain, a perfect second male lead or a lot of tragic events. Bad things happened but they were not too much. To be honest I binge watched the first half episodes and then lost my interest. I loved their romance but at some point there wasn't so much of it. A lot of things got in the way and the main focus shifted to other things, so we lost a big part of it. I'm glad that I finally finished it! I was satisfied by the ending. If you want a historical romantic story with a little action and a little mystery , you should watch it!

Superior Chinese period rom-com

While the plot summary sounds kind of same-same to a number of period romance/rom-com where a cool, handsome ML meets and falls in love with a cute, feisty FL, the actual story telling and pacing placed this show well above most of the pack.
You might groan a little as the show opened with the FL cross dressed as a guy and running amok in the city's marketplace but it soon took a different track as more of her background was revealed. The fact that she actually accepted the arrange marriage and decided to turn it to her advantage was refreshing and very engaging. There were quite a few laughs in the first few episodes when she lorded over her shell shocked new husband even though he was a famous general with a killer reputation.
Another welcomed change was when they put in the typical divorce/breakup trope very early in the show and gave it a nice positive spin resulted in more laughs and character growth. This is a major contrast to when most c-drama would settle into a few episodes of despair and silent longing.
The OTP had fantastic chemistry. The FL was a strong character who stood up to bullies, will not accept defeat and willing to fight for her goals. Just as well that the ML is cool (not heartless) but smart and knew that she was his soulmate and gave in to her completely. Once the push-pull and doubts were settled, their love was true and deep, their trust unwavering and unquestionable.
Overall, the support cast were solid. Some of the younger actors were a little weak but they are not carrying a lot of weight so it was ok. Some of the cuteness came from the secondary pairings once the OTP settled into their married life. Even then there was still a decent amount of skinship and feels. Just a little less flirting.
The OST was surprisingly good. The main theme was well matched to the show and was used extensively.
Now for the not so good bits. The second (or was it third) sister was very annoying and a real trouble maker. That is typical for this type of drama but once again, she went unpunished even though her big mouth got the whole family into serious trouble. All was forgiven by the end of the show and everyone moved on as if nothing had happened. Weird to say the least.
Speaking of ending, the last episode was mostly rainbows and unicorns and tied up all the loose ends. That is all well and good as fan service goes but the plot leading up to it was surprisingly weak and contrived. Contrasted this to the writing for the whole show which was solid, well paced and consistent. It was a little disappointing.
Overall, enjoyed it very much, highly recommended.

Fun and lovely

I watched all 30 episodes in a matter of days and I couldn't stop. When it was over, I was very sad to let it go.

There are so many things I liked about this drama:

- Female lead is funny, independent, brave and intelligent. She's very mischievous and a little childish sometimes, but you will definitely love her

- The male lead is PERFECT. Handsome, brave, smart, gentle and affectionate.

- the interactions between the couple are gold. Whether they're fighting, teasing or being affectionate, you won't be able to tear your eyes off of them.

- the misunderstandings are resolved quickly. You don't have to watch in pain for episodes on end

- The royal family is actually fair and good. The emperor is a capable ruler

- all the couples (there are a lot) are adorable

- the cast (main leads and supporting characters) did an amazing job portraying their characters.

- there were sooooo many funny moments. This is a drama that has made me laugh the most recently

- you don't see too much of the villains. There weren't that many to begin with, but at least you don't have to see them all that much

All in all, this drama is very easy to watch and you will definitely enjoy it. If you haven't watched it yet, give it a go. You'll fall in love with it during the first episode.

Acting not bad, comedy is quite entertaining, story no weight, obvious cutting scene

If the detective film consists of various cases, this film consists of various types of misunderstanding ,, from beginning to end various types of misunderstanding about 7-8 types ,i think just third until ep 12 but still have misunderstanding ,until ep 3 become a litte boring

The acting is not bad, but the story no weight, just a misunderstanding,, but the Comedy part is quite entertaining

the drama story that looks like it got cut, and is shown jumping, the cutting is very obvious, all incident happen suddenly with no reason , don't know the original is like that or just the international version only is like that,,,feels like they only show drama without paying attention to the details, as long as it's finished

a love story that is too sudden, expresses a love that is too sudden, for xiuming and xiuyuan both are the same

since the beginning it said 3 chuxiuming wives are spy, then how can he have a wife? While the emperor bestowed his wife, because he was already "ru guan" that mean he is already 20 years old, and general himself is not the type who can find his own wife

Chuxiuming and Chu Xiuyuan's age did not match, if during the flashback when her aunt was pregnant, Xiuming was estimated to be 5-7 years old, and the fire was 16 years ago, Chu Xiuming's age is now 20 years old but because there is a birthday consider it 21 years, if during the fire Chu xiuyuan is not a baby but 3-5 years of age, Xiuyuan should have been 19 years old at least,,but when flashback chuxiuming already about 5-7 years old hmm

And how his chu xiuming father and mother die?

Ep6, shen jin suddenly became a militer supervisor, i think the extra will show how she become milliter supervisor, or how she meet susu but no that scene

It is not logical too, how long is the distance between the capital and the border, why was she just kicked out by general , then the emperor already know? if there is a spy it should be a letter to the capital first, then emperor send susu to border

Ep 7,,If the military tradition during the full moon is to eat together with soldiers, don't you just eat and drink, it doesn't say you can drink wine, but why they can? are they sure if the full moon no enemies attack?

Ep 13,
Susu ask rourou to enjoy the moon, at that time the moon was full, but when they climbed to the roof the moon became a crescent oh no wkwksk

Is the emperor agree his 9 princess persue her own love?

I don't know what "the plant" means, doesn't seem to be related to the 8 Prince's murders? , because the cause is the golden liquid

Ep 17, shuddenly shen zi discuss about her legal mother Was angry out of the garden,, legal mother isnt "wangfei"? The first sister mother? ,isnt when general and shenjin meeting rui wang, ruiwang asking"where prince consort and xu consort?" , very suddenly happen all thing ridiculous

What the conclusion of the doctor about general and his wife body?jusy skip like that

Ep 20, Xiuyuan didn't he say from the start that he hasn't met anyone he can like? , suddenly he said the first time he saw Wu Ruonan already like her

Ep 28 ,,not understood what Liu qi's motive is, to be able to sacrifice all of his family members to cover up the mastermind, it doesn't make any sense at all,

Ep 30 how shen jin locked up in the secret chamber? if it is dropped from above and when she wakes up in a sleep state did she not miscarry?

Cheap writing

OVERALL
I watched it all the way to the end because I was bored. Watch it if you really, REALLY don't care about quality...or you're bored. If none of the above apply, then skip. DEFINITELY skip.

THE STORY
I tried watching this drama three times before. Each time, I gave it up within the first minutes of Episode 1. The production was just really not impressive (sets and costumes looked so fake), and Female Lead was too silly. But the other day I had nothing else, so I pushed through and watched it all. My opinion about the drama has NOT improved haha

The worse thing about this drama is the writing. It's just SO bad. Things happen out of nowhere, things that would never occur in the past occur, the love story is random and unbelievable, Female Lead is not likeable, Male Lead is...like every other male lead. It's just bad. I can't think about anything that can redeem this show, except a couple of scenes here and there that managed to make me laugh. That's not enough to salvage the drama though, so I wouldn't recommend it to anybody.

THE ACTING
Not impressed. And don't expect chemistry, you won't find any.

THE MUSIC
No comment.

REWATCH VALUE
LOL.

A drama that won't feed your anxiety.

Viewers often love a drama they can relate or put themselves to. And there's no way you can in this drama, unless you're living in ancient times with bethrotal marriage. No kidding, this drama is far too impossible to happen in real life, like the situations, the characters, the way they think, and even the choices they make! Which is more interesting. It's hundred percent fantacy but I promise they won't hurt you, rather make you laugh a tons if you don't judge them too strictly. I suggest, before you begin watching this, make sure to put yourself in the third perspective (the viewer), if you won't put yourself in their shoes and just see what's happening as it is, then you'll enjoy it--to the point it's therapeutic. Enjoy everyone!

Watched several times .. still want to watch it again

I would say this is so addictive.. this drama has everything. Best cast with overwhelming chemistry between the main couple, best story line, best costume, best directing, best music. This is a very good example for a very good team work. Caesar Wu and Tang Min couple match made in heaven. They are born for each other. Their chemistry is unbelievable. C drama industry should get the maximum use of this couple chemistry. We would love to see them together in many many dramas. Wish they will end up as real couple one day just like Son Ye Jin and Hyun Bin. Tang Min and Caesar Wu are very talented. Wish all the team to do more dramas again like General's Lady.

If someone asks me what made me into CDrama, i'll answer; General's Lady

This is the first time i was into cdrama, historical especially. I love the actors as they portrayed their character well. I fell in love with Caesar Wu gege and mostly to Tang Min jiejie. She was so bright throughout the drama and Caesar wu is dashing too. I also love how the plot did not disappoint me.
And the music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wei Yi Ren is on the loop in my phone. I might have memorized it without learning chinese (now I want to learn it now)

Someone give this guy another lead role!

I really did enjoy a LOT about this show. The plotline, the OST, the coloring & general look. I was SUPER impressed with Ceasar Wu's acting and character and can't wait to see what his next project will be, tho his looks seem practically designed for historicals. (Wow!)

I do wish we could have seen more of his character in the masked warrior's outfit, especially after we got to know him a bit.

Most of the side characters & their stories were also fun & interesting to watch. Especially the FL's maid & Su Su. They were adorable.

My issue was more with Shen Jin. I completely lived her in the beginning, but after she got comfortable with the relationship, I felt like she started becoming more and more immature, annoying and even selfish and self-centered. Quite possibly one of the most spoiled and pampered female leads I've come across in a historical. By the time it ended I still wanted them to end up with an HEA, but it's the first time I ever really wanted the male lead to have more concubines. LOL. I felt like he spent so much time ans energy taking care of her Needs & Wants and cleaning up after her messes, he deserved to have somebody to take care of him as well.

Most likely wont rewatch, but it was fun the first time!
