Just watch it!!!

I signed up just to review this series!!!

This is my first time watching any Asian dramas. But I completely LOVED IT!!!

Compared with American dramas this has more to be discovered, twists and turns, and love that was born from pain and foolishness that progressively grew to everlasting happiness! Or does it? Lol

American dramas focus on heated romantic scenes and schemes based on what they want for themselves but in this drama everything was done to save the family name, avenge ones past thru strategy and endurance... other than the villains of course who were out for themselves.

What I liked:
ML: was fierce and strong. Independent yet reliable, intelligent and very skilled at what he did. He seemed virtually indestructible. Until... well I’ll let you find out. *Go watch it* LOL
FL: was also strong yet vulnerable. Childish at times but also very witty, which became valuable in the end. She took a lot of pride in her family and didn’t back down especially when it came to... *if you watch you’ll soon know* LOL
Actors/actresses: alike settled quite nicely in their roles! Acting I felt was very real for each character. They all had their very own personalities, were able to portray their feelings, and made their characters their own (in my opinion anyway). :)
Many many questions: Lol I found myself asking those questions along with them in thought.
Questions were answered. (Except my own I came up with my head) ?
Culture: I am not Asian at all and not familiar with the Chinese culture but I discerned respect, tradition and family ties to be very evident in this series. Every family assumed their roles passed on from generation to generation.
Plot twists: many, many of them! You’ll never get bored. (Unless I am just easily entertained) lol
Delicately placed emotional scenes: made me feel like I was falling in love all over again too! Lol I had to keep going to find out just how it would end!!! *No I won’t tell you* lol
Easy to follow along: although this was in Chinese, a foreign language to me, it was easy to follow. Just a few back pedals in each episode, a pause button here and there. But as I watched I was able to discern more and more without the need to go back and pause to read.

What I didn’t like:
There were one or two things that didn’t get answered for me involving some of the villains in the storyline.
There were also incomplete (I felt) scenes. None of them were of great importance tho.
The music: although I’ve come to hummm the tune in the main song, they played it so much I thought that was the only song and accepted it. Until... just several episodes from the conclusion they started to play different songs lol I was like what? ???

Final thoughts:
I definitely would watch it again! Maybe not every single episode lol there were just one or two episodes I thought were wasted a little on lengthened scenes.
But overall I recommend that you watch it for yourself. I think most will fall in love with the lead characters and the storyline line *especially towards the end*.
So go watch it!!!

Thank you for this show!!!

Good romance between bratty princess and mature general

I finally finished watching this drama after trying to drop it several times . Let me start by saying that it was mostly cute and funny and not too heavy.
Story: The rash and bratty daughter of royalty is married off to a powerful border general, who has a secret mission going on, but they fall in love and he does everything to solve the troubles his wife keeps creating, all while working his own hidden agenda. The plot was fast moving. So the story is not stagnant. There's a lot of things going on, one after the other. Sometimes it does get a little boring, like the part where the FL started her own business. And the FL is super annoying. There were some plotholes in the working of the villains. There were loads of sweet and funny moments. But throughout the story the FL has zero character development. Still the story was good, if the draggy parts are skipped, then it was a good one to watch. They had a happy ending, a funny one at that, and ig a total of 6 couples came out by the end of the drama.
Characters and acting- The acting of all the characters was very well done. The fl did a good job portraying the stupid princess, the ML did a good job in his part. The leads had such a beautiful chemistry, their romance and love felt so real and natural and they had tons of kisses. As much as i love their love story, I can't deny that the FL was super annoying. Throughout the story she was a super unreasonable, irrational, rash and wilful. The ML was like ultra patient and considerate of her and i even think that he deserved better. He wasn't always very forthright, he liked to keep things to himself but nonetheless he loved her so much. The FL had very few moments of maturity but she was very honest about everything. Towards the end the emperor turned into a comic character. The other couples like that of rourou and susu, bao zitou and xiaocong were pretty fun. Well xiuyuan and ruonan had a lot of growth as a couple but I'm just disappointed that she became the empress, like wtf? Anyway i hated the FL's two sisters so much that i literally jumped every time they were slapped lmao.

Overall: I might just rewatch it someday if I'm bored, but for the first time definitely worth a try. It is entertaining and fun tow watch.

Romantic drama

Girl forcefully got marriage proposal with a general on the other side general not happy with this proposal too and give many chances to a girl to leave him but as a promise to her mother and for her sake ,she stick with the general and slowly slowly they fall into love with each other and they married but life is not simple as it seen there are many conspiracy waiting for general so not too fall on those conspiracy he worked hard plus he looking for murder who caused an accident sixteen years back because of this he loss his uncle and aunt .
And the end he solved all the mystery and they leave happily ever after .
Some plot of the drama confused me.
1. He think of flash back where his mother and father killed then what is the relationship of him with the emperor , was emperor his father's brother.
2. How both of them came out of the sand , how they get rescued.
Ending scene is good where the drama shown their son , that is cute.
A good romantic story.

I'm confused. *SPOILERS AHEAD*

I began watching this drama as the premise was promising and the earlier episodes seemed to have a good flow but towards the end I was quite disappointed by the lack of proper storytelling. Some episodes/scenes seemed to be pure fillers and while I enjoyed seeing multiple pairings at the end, the ending just seemed too unrealistic.

What I liked:
1. The casting (especially for the FL)
If the actress for Shen Jin were to be played by anyone else, I think I wouldn't have been able to complete the drama. She manages to pull off the character very well that her rash decisions still make her character humane and not purely annoying.
2. The wholesomeness of the MCs
Albeit not very realistic, I found the bonds between all the characters (especially during ancient times) to be quite pure. I especially like the way the king was written in the end where he wouldn't like to sacrifice his children to be birds in a golden cage.
3. The fluff between the couples
Honestly, seeing the relationship grow between the character pairings especially ML & FL where their personalities become influenced for the better by each other is just delightful. I especially liked the fact where they made the ML cried, I have watched too many dramas where the ML is just totally unemotional. Men cry too. Also like the fact that the 母妃 of the FL is the head of the family, it gives for some rather comical scenes where the FL's father just shies away from politicking and pushes his wife to speak instead.

What made me confused:
1. There were absolutely no repercussions against FL's sisters and they seemed to have a total personality flip in the last episode where they suddenly became "good/civil" characters. Maybe they cut out that part as it was not important but the total personality flip just seemed too absurd to the point where they seem like different people.
2. The background of Ruonan
Her background is just confusing, although that might be a fault on my part where I just skipped through some parts as they just seemed too draggy. I don't get how they she just appeared out of nowhere on a cliff where the ML's brother also appeared? It wasn't too well explained (although, that could also be my fault of being not willing to watch at 1.0 speed).

A decent romance with good chemistry between the leads

It's a very romance oriented drama. It was my first asian drama so obviously that increases my rating. I started watching Chinese dramas avidly after this one so obviously it did something right.
They try to do some mystery sub plot within the story, but it doesn't really work. However, it's a very light/fluffy, as well as funny drama and the chemistry between the leads is sizzling (the kiss scenes are like how kiss scenes should be).
The leads get together early on so most of the story is focused on other hardships they come across. In hindsight, I do think Ceaser Wu's acting was a little wooden when he tries to be the stoic general.
Would recommend if you're stuck after another drama and just want some plain old married romance between the leads.

Worth your time

What i liked :
The chemistry between the leads is just insane that it makes you wait for their scenes, the kissing scenes are my favpurite in this drama, best kisser in historical drama award definetly goes to ceasar, you will enjoy it endlessly and you will feel sad when it ends.
What i disliked :
I don't think that's something would ruin the show for you but instead it will make you laugh because there is some unrealistic scenes in the drama but they are not really bad i think they are funny ?
Good job

Cute historical romance

I initially started this cause I saw a clip of the main leads first meeting and was intrigued. I haven’t watched any historical cdramas before so this was my first and I throughly enjoyed it! The plot wasn’t too invested into politics and focused on romance so it wasn’t too heavy but also it wasn’t super light so it was a perfect balance in my opinion. Main girl did get irrational at times but it was easy to gloss over and made her character more realistic rather than just perfect. I adored the main guy so much his transition from a cold general to a man who cared deeply for his wife was so so cute and even after the main couple got together their chemistry was still great! I loved the little special scenes they added at the end of every episode and was so pleasantly surprised that the last one was a take on them meeting in modern day! Caesar wu was so cute and acted well as well as the rest of the cast. At first I really didn’t know what to think of the emperor, however, he turned out to be a great character and I loved his character arc. Also the ninth prince’s son becoming emperor alongside the girl who saved him was so cute and she truly made a good empress so I was super pleased with that. The background music was also spectacular and fit the moods so well so applause to the music team as well :) Overall, this was a cute historical drama that’s not too long and not too political heavy that you can easily get into!

Very sappy sweet drama

So happy to see the actor I first saw in Netflix’s revamped Meteor Garden get his own role. I think his charm was a lot more apparent in this role. The lead couple were very cute together and I was happy their romance burned strong from very early on in the drama. One thing I did not care for was how syrupy sweet it was. Like sometimes to the point of being unbearable. Maybe I like angsty romance too much but idk it was just very cutesy and yeah that’s why I’m here but make it more organic please. First time see the female lead, she was very pretty and funny and I think she held her own well. Someone is like to see in their own drama is the girl who played ninth princess. She was gorgeous.

The ML and FL's chemistry is a bomb!

Though the story has too many changes from the novel, and I got confused at times, but the flow is good and not boring. When it comes to acting, the leads are good but lacking in emotional scenes. But I can see their potential as an actor and actress. I hope they will have another drama together. Their romantic and kissing scences however are so good that I always rewatch clips of them being lovey dovey. It's my daily dose of happiness. XD And lastly, the OST got me LSS (Last Song Syndrome) for the past days.

P.S.
Their costumes are very aesthetically pleasing! <3

Unexpectedly good

This is one of those dramas that I didn't intend to watch but ended up watching because I couldn't find anything else. This turned out to be my liking. It has a simple story, and the villains were not over the top bad (maybe one sister was). I would' ve preferred to see a real love triangle (like to see the ML getting jealous more), but there was only a short lived one with the childhood friend.

This is a good one to try if you just want a relaxing, happy ending historical romance to watch. I thought it would be too childish based on the ML being in a previous drama that I did not like. But his acting was good and mature in this one.

This is a good romantic comedy set within a historical background. The drama is light on content and, although there’s some push and pull on the developing romantic relation between the leading couple, their love is strong, honest, and protective; especially from the leading male towards his wife which maintain her strong-minded, stubborn, and, too many times, troublesome decision making. If the writers would have decided to stop her flip-flop from a straightforward and trusting wife to an impulsive spoiled brat that only wants to get her way in spite of the heavy consequences that her husband had to counterstrike continuously, this drama would have been a great romantic comedy since the leading couple has a lovely and strong chemistry. The supporting cast provided some good comedic tones to the drama that lightened the tone and storyline. The drama has some plot holes and editing issues (how did they get out of the sinking sand?) And to top it all, after the happy ending, there is a senseless bonus scene that shifts the leading couple to modern times. Still, taking everything into account, the drama is entertaining!

Chemistry chemistry chemistry

>> This got a higher than usual rating from me mainly because of generous kissing scenes and chemistry. <<

Plus the leads and second leads are cute. I like their dynamic. Fave character is the ML. He is so sweet and charming ? also very protective of Jin Er. Jin Er is admittedly annoying a times but I love her sincerity for her husband.

For the plot, it was ok. Not really exciting but not bad. A decent story for a romance drama. I'm now into arranged marriage drama because of this.
