Many films about immigrant workers show stereotypical images, regardless of the intention of those films, namely that of ‘a kind laborer who speaks little Korean being exploited by employers.’ This prevent us from listening to their real, personal stories. Night Working is different in that respect. The story of the female immigrant worker and that of the Korean female worker are well-balanced, like mirrors facing each other. There is a bond of sympathy between the two: the immigrant who came to Korea for a better life and the Korean who tries to leave for the same reason. The different conditions between the two are engraved in the film like a subtle conversation. The film depicts the strength of each character while embracing their sad lives, overcoming the racial barrier, and sharing their hearts and relationship. (Source: JIFF) Edit Translation
