First off, i will admit that I've never been much of a fan on shonen. Whether its anime or drama,I've always preferred watching romance. For someone like me, who only prefers romance dramas, i fell in love with this!

Yes, the movie definitely changed some things from the anime. But what movie doesn't? Especially for anime, some things would look a little weird without changing it while doing the live action. And read more this way, you're not watching the exact same thing. I found both the anime and the movie very entertaining, and i recommend both.

The acting in this was also really great! The actor who played Light was very impressive, I could see where he was coming from, and what type of personality he had easily. L was played really good too! I'm team L all the way, and never once was on Light's side!

So if your considering whether to watch it or not, here is what i suggest: if you are an avid anime fan keep an open mind that there are changes to the movie. If you've never seen the anime, i suggest watching that first. That way the movie won't spoil you with what will happen. Or vice versa. Whichever you prefer. Hoped this helped!

I like these kind of dramas/movies and though I haven't watched any of its anime version or read its manga and I think it's a good thing cause I was able to enjoy the movie. I love the characters and how it was portrayed by the actors. I find the storyline unique and that kept me watching this movie till the end. The music was cool enough for me. I plan on read more watching the anime but I'm glad I watched the movie first before my impression will be spoilt if I did the other way. I will surely watch this again. It's one of the classic Japanese movies worth re-watching because of it's unique plot and especially if you are a fan of it. I recommend it especially if you want to watch something with your friends. This is certainly worth a try and one of the best Japanese movies.

It's a drama but since it's full of suspense it feels like a movie, same as death note with two leads on the same level chasing eachother

Love this movie so much. The only problem i had with it was that in the manga/anime and my imagination, Light has more of a boyish appearance than a manly one (which Fujiwara Tatsuya has).

      That is correct.
But "L: Change the World" is just a spin-off.

Good cast but way too rushed story. I mean wtf, why don't you hear the caracthers think? It is still good but it just misses the best part of the story. I'm kinda disapointed.

Sure the anime is better, but Im surprised how the director manages a very faithful adaptation. Considering the need to change a few things to make it work, thats normal, its a very good movie.

I planned a year ago to watch this.. But that day never came, until today. And I regret it for not watching this earlier.. I really love Death Note. «33.

I find it a little amusing that so many people hate this movie for being different than the manga/anime, when if had been too similar everyone would probably still hate it.

Maybe I'm weird, since I'm a huge Death Note fan, but I actually like that its different. I don't like watching the exact same story twice unless I'm rewatching something I've already finished, so the movie was pretty interesting in my opinion.

The casting was poor - the actors portraying Light, L and Misa make them so annoyingly tiresome that I spent most of the film hoping Ryuk would push them all off a cliff. Watchable on a rainy day with nothing else to do but otherwise stick with the anime.

The negative reviews seems to come from what should I call it, the manga/anime's diehard fans? fanboy? fangirl? I don't know, but I'm telling you, I read the manga before I watched this, I loved them, but I still prefer this version. Not because the movie is better, but do you know how a manga series could be a carousel? I mean no matter how great & enjoyable the manga is, it only goes with the same pattern. I'm aware Death Note is far from the worse case of how bad a carousel tendency in famous manga/anime could be, but you get the idea. That’s why I think this movie excels at taking out all of what makes Death Note series a great show, and chopping out the repetitive things, and differ it from the manga so it'll still have a good suspense for those who already familiar with the story..

Excellent adaptation! And simply excellent movie in general.
