Worth seeing once ??♀️
This movie wasn't bad, but had it been 2 hours instead of 1, it could've been great.Mermaid's Jade has good bones and good acting, but the short time slot leaves things not fully fleshed out. So, at what point does Yuanshan fall for Xia? There's no issues with his wife, no falling out. By all accounts, he seems to love her. Now don't get me wrong, I knew this was a BL, so I wasn't rooting for her anyway (she's gorgeous and a saint, so I didn't hate her either). Like I see the tension building and them making eyes at each other, etc. But that transition really needed more time to make sense. Also those two men had no guilt. 😂
Now the elephant in the room. Those wigs. You can't convince me they didn't bulk order those off Amazon. And the glue along everyone's hairline? 💀 The actor who played Xia clearly had issues with his since they did away with the top half and left some clip ins that were not even remotely close to the same color as his hair lmao. I did like the special effects and all Xia's mermaid powers. The supernatural elements were pretty cool in this story. However, the tears to pearls did not execute well on screen for me. It just looked so silly. 😭😂
I actually loved the ending. The ending was sweet and beautiful. I think this movie mostly fell victim to the shortness because I truthfully could've overlooked the silly things had they given me the long version instead of going "sooo long story short" because the love between Xia and Yuanshan could've been pretty epic!

i watched it because its one of the only bls in china. i saw an edit on tiktok about it and decided to watch it right away. i didnt expect too much but this was way under my expectations. ive watched a lot of shitty bls and this was probably the worst one. firstly, its very confusing and rushed. i sometimes couldnt really understand what was happening and everything just happened too fast!! we didnt even see any signs of romance and they just randomly had sx?? the wigs were so obvious like u could see the mesh thing. acting was alright ig. the ending was also super confusing like is he a time traveler or he remembers his past life?? the special effects were so bad!!!! one of the worst ive seen. i feel like a tiktok editor could be better like. dont recommend but if youre desperate for a rare chinese bl then go ahead and waste your 1hr!!Was this review helpful to you?

Unexpected Ending
I went into this movie fully preparing to be sobbing by the end of it, as my past experience with Chinese BLs has lead to either death & despair, or death & the tiniest glimmer of hope.This one technically has the death of one half of the main CP, but there is a twist that pleasantly surprised me, and had me smiling through my tears.
I always love a good reincarnation trope in a BL, and it was wonderful to see it here.
I've seen other reviewers talk about how the romance is rushed (which is a valid critique), but 1) the film is little.more than one hour long (so not much time to build a solid foundation), and 2) the "rushedness" can be hand waved away by the implementation of the "soulmates throughout all of time" trope, so I can personally excuse the 0-100 in 2 seconds romance because of that.
This won't be a frequent rewatch, but it definitely WILL be watched again because it's not too emotionally taxing, and the little bits of lore surrounding the different species (humans, mermaids, and dragons) was intriguing

I personally dont know what to think about this movie. I had high expectations because...bro this is Chinese BL Movie-I cant say very rare piece but you know what I mean... The acting is good, but the plot could have been better. In one moment the minister is "Oh... Let's exterminate all the memaids!" in another is like "O fuck! I have feelings for this boi😏". I dont have anything against the mereboy bc he is kinda cute. The ending... I kinda suspected this bc this happens in many other chinese dramas/movies. Do I recommendthis movie? Yes.
