In 1972, Sumiko Inafuku's daughter, Miyuki, is a 6-year-old kindergarten student. Although she was not wealthy by any means, she received a solid education and grew up quickly. One day, Sumiko receives the results of Miyuki's kindergarten health checkup and feels uneasy about the contents. There, Miyuki's blood type was listed as "A". Miyuki's father, Shigemi, a crane operator, has type B blood. Her mother, Sumiko, is type O. She knew that a blood type B and O type couple would not have a type A child. Thinking it was a mistake by the kindergarten, the two report it to the kindergarten, but in the end, the entire family has to undergo a blood type test at the public health center.
