Hong Kong in 1949 was a city in turbulence. The People's Republic was established on the mainland of China in the fall of that year. As a result, a surge of immigrants flooded into the British colony. Not all of the immigrants were honest, law-abiding citizens. Criminal triads came to regard Hong Kong as their new headquarters. The communist leaders of the People's Republic wanted the triads (who opposed their leadership) stomped out. And this historical setting provides the backdrop for a fascinating look at the triads.
