One of the best bls ever.

This bl is one of the best out there and I would 100% recommend to watch it.

No absurd drama, no same sluggish plot, no irresponsible male leads... This series has everything to look for.

The pace is steady, not too slow or fast and every character play their part beautifully in depicting every emotion around. You will find many cute and heartfelt scenes which will make you to blush. The heartbreak part was gorgeously depicted. The acting was fabulous. I'm greedily looking for the last two episodes cause the wait is torturing me.

After reading the manhwa I was confused as how they will show it , but damn they have included all the main parts and even those heart fluttering moments....gosh I already want to watch it again.

Moreover, if you are a hugger or loves hugging, this bl is for you. There are several hug scenes and felt so intimate that make you want more in your life.

The osts are good and I already love them. The main leads are the one who sang it and I was so surprised to hear that.

I'm not gonna criticise anyone here but truly, I found many reviews which are not giving justice to this drama and that's very sad.

Well, I'm gonna say it again, ULS is already among the top 5 bls.

PS : ULS gained #2 spot on TV-OTT overall drama ranking list in Korea, literally fighting with popular kdramas !!!!! while Gongchan and Seowon got #2 and #1 in SNS category, omg this is soooo huge !!!!

One of the best K-BLs out there!

I knew from the start of this drama that I was going to love it… and I stand correct!

Noq this is how you do a KBL-Drama! Acting, OSTs, Visuals etc. were just amazing! I have this drama as one of my most favourite BLs ever. The chemistry was amazing too… though the kiss could’ve been a bit better lol but that kiss in EP 10 showed how much they improved.

I would like to see a Season 2 except I want the focus to be more on the other lead couple as I think there are still things we need to learn off of their story. And I need my kiss! (Tbh kisses in this drama aren’t even needed cause their chemistry is just that great)

This is sitting up there with one of the best BLs released this year (2023) highly recommend to those who have yet to see this :)

That was a proper rom-com with actual plot, good pacing, characters that you learn to appreciate and relationships you root for. That said, it still leaves me craving for more.

I’m not even mad about bls delivering all the cliche tropes, romances based on misunderstanding, the amazing soft angst, the naive lead falling for the grumpy lead that we’ve got in the post from straight romance stories. These plots sell, these plots attract the biggest audience and these plots are simply entertaining. And this is kind of what we’ve got from the Unintentional Love Story.

It was a fun journey to follow. While Ji Won Young was a painfully frustrating character at first, I cannot deny - this child grew on me. Surprisingly, he delivered some of the best and most mature lines out of all the characters. Yoon Tae Joon was one of the soft emo guys that makes your heart ache just the right way. Dong Hee and Ho Tae were rays of sunshine impossible not to love.

Truth to be told, at some point I started to be more curious and invested in this second couple, and I cannot stop myself from being quite disappointed with the lack of screentime and development, and only hope for a separate show that will follow their story.

The quality of acting depends on which actor you will focus on. Personally I enjoyed Han Do Woo's and Won Tae Min's performances the most (which was also one of the reason I enjoyed following their characters’ story more).

Cha Seo Won did an amazing job with the “I’m hurt, but I want to hide it and control my facial expression, but I still need to show it enough for the audience to see” scenes. Moments when we need to both clearly see what emotions the character is feeling, but also understand they want to hide it. On the other hand, Gongchan delivered a deer caught in headlights acting - mostly looking confused or scared with his pretty big eyes.

The kissing was basically like trying to stick two magnets together by the same pole. I could literally see how much force they had to put into getting so close together. I laughed... badly.

Production was great. Vast improvement from many k-bls. Would appreciate a little bit less smoothing filter on the actors’ faces though.

Overall, for such a nice watch. Not as emotionally touching as I wished it would, but something I for sure do not regret watching and would probably recommend others to check out.

Outstanding characterization

What an amazing journey. The fact that ULS is an adapted screenplay, it really retained the soul of the manga. They also did a great job of picturing the script.

The way the relationships between the characters are developed is great. And with strong direction, the characters were also expertly and carefully written. With this cast, they did fantastic job with their roles and their relationship has such great chemistry.

One could contend that this series lacks strength, which I could see on some parts, but most of all it was thoughtfully planned and well-written, addition of the excellent work from the cast with of course those wonderful ost/s.

A must watch for this show really exhibits that romantic feelings existed even before we realized it and how crucial trust is for a healthy love, be it love of intimacy or love of friendships.

P.S.
I guess they have the most sweet-comfortable-hug I'd ever seen in a kbl.

The second couple made me stay.

Plot's predictable. It's one of those shows wherein you know what's going to happen from the first 2 episodes. But hey, that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's easy to watch.

What irks me the most is the way Gongchan seems to have the same expression in every single frame. He has the same squinty, doe-eyed expression. I can't seem to ignore that when he's the main character so he's in almost every frame. The other actors are quite good though, especially Taemin and Seowon. Seowon nailed the confrontation scene.

The second couple deserves more screentime. They're barely even in the episodes. IMO, their chemistry is more palpable than the main couple. Their storyline is more mysterious too. Too bad it was handled poorly until the end. The source material has side stories focused on them though. I wonder why they didn't include that.

All in all, is it atrocious? No. Do I love it? Also No. It's ok. It's fine.

close but not quite

Overall: there were parts that I really enjoyed but other areas were lacking, it's between 7.5 and 8. It had 10 episodes about 30 minutes each. Aired on iQIYI in U.S., Thailand and Indonesia.

Content Warnings: hit, harassment, non con kiss, manipulation, past physical abuse

What I Liked
- funny moments
- cute/caring moments
- the small town vibe where everyone knows everyone
- the cafe owner Kim Dong Hee and Go Ho Tae*
- that Ji Won Young stood up for himself with the ex and at the end that manager
- production value

Room For Improvement
- dead fish lip presses/fake shadow kiss
- *the side couple had way too little screen time, their story wasn't explained well enough, the hits were not needed and then it wasn't resolved well
- felt the drama towards the end dragged on too long but then the very ending felt rushed
- bad "plans" and poor communication
- continuity errors (ep 1 bird poop, left his credit card behind and it wasn't addressed, character punched but next day does not have any injuries)
- non realistic things (says he's super sick/was told to rest and then he's cleaning floors)
- felt more like a 'gay for you' trope rather than a gay awakening

Gave everything I could wish for

I don't understand the bad reviews, for me it was perfect. It gave everything I wished to happen in other bls.
I even binge watched the 10 episodes in one morning.

-The story was amazingly emploted. I had never seen a drama with this plot so it was very original and new, to the point where, even if I could predict some scenes, I still felt completely immersed.

-Usually, when the two leads fight, they make up after an episode just because, but not this one. The feelings where so well conveyed I was even feeling the same as the lead. One was angry and they fought, but later the other felt wronged too and that's not usually seen in dramas.

-The second lead couple was cute too. They didn't outshine the lead couple but they were certainly needed with all that cuteness.

In conclusion, give it a try. I really found this bl different from others in terms of production. It was very beautiful and satisfactory so it placed in my top 10 of dramas, not only bls.

Predictable cliche story where the 2nd lead couple shines bright.

The drama itself is very cute and fluffy. But those scenes are hit-and-miss for some. Sometimes many scenes don't make a lot of sense so if you are gonna watch this because you like a sensible plot, and a good storyline, don't waste your time here.

Things I liked:
The second lead couple. Simply put, their story was more interesting. They had the best chemistry. and it was easy to fall in love with them. Both of them didn't have a hidden agenda and I wasn't filled with angst waiting for everything to unfold. They also shared a good screen presence. Their scenes shined and I skipped unnecessary scenes just to watch these two on screen.

I also liked Tae Joon's character. He was mysterious, quiet and calm. I loved that about him. I also liked his small smiles and the scenes of soft and fluffy tae joon.

Things that I didn't like:
I usually hate misunderstandings, relationships starting on lies, and deceiving tropes so I steered clear from this drama from the beginning. But then I randomly decided to watch it and it's safe to say that I still hate this trope. and All the snooping, and digging into Tae Joon's past was off-putting.
Won young. I also didn't like his character. I wouldn't say he is the worst thing in the drama and insufferable, but his actions weren't exactly making me root for him or make him likable.
Lack of screen time for other characters. I love that we are getting long running hours. But that doesn't help when we focus solely on the main leads most of the time. It would be fine to watch them forever if the main leads had jaw-dropping chemistry but what both shared was soft chemistry and the show wouldn;t be able to run for 30 to 45 minutes for 10 episodes with just that. I know that we have two other male leads but they barely got any screen time. But both of them did well despite the lack of screen time.

I probably wouldn't rewatch this drama again Mostly because those lying tropes aren't my type and I am not willing to put myself through Won Young's quest to snoop into Tae Joon's life. Personally, I only continued this drama for both the second leads. So to conclude, watch this only for the characters. because there is nothing new with the plot. This is a generic, cliche drama but with good actors and great chemistry.

Cliché plot done well saddled with lacklustre chemistry!

Overall the show is quite enjoyable with beautiful setting and backdrops and fitting engaging music. The show has its funny and quirky moments and moments which will give you butterflies in the stomach.

But there were quite a few elements in the show which kept pulling me back! Let me list a few of my reservatios:-
1. The show still felt heavily targeted towards the female audience, where the entire plot can be easily replaced by a female character and nothing shall change. There is no specific BL or LGBT element that makes it stand out except for the physical traits of the actors!
2. DEAD-FISH KISSES: Well i am certainly aware that the actors cast for the role are slightly veteran actors and their may be a lot of awkward moments during shooting, when the actors themselves maybe straight! But let me get this straight, please don't do BL dramas if you aren't comfortable representing a community if you aren't able to play their roles with full justice! We've come a long way with korean BLs and i feel they certainly shouldn't limit themselves soothing the fetishes of BL fujoshis and have some substance!
3. Flat one dimensional characters: There was no sense of realism in the plot, the entire ambience felt the actors being forced to proximity! Wonyoung being a 26-27 year old behaved like a 20 year old school girl did not befit his role.
4. The second couple had a better build-up and more convincing story, sadly they received very little to no screentime!

Keeping my personal reservations aside, the show is quite enjoyable overall and wouldn't disappoint the likes of people wanted to watch some unrealistic fluff! Thank you! :)

It was a cute drama

April 14, 2023

Unintentional Love Story was one of the few on-going bls that I have watched as it has captured my essence starting right at the plot.

I definitely enjoyed waiting each week for episodes to come, however, I must say, the latter half of the series was underwhelming especially right at episode 7 or midway in episode 8.

I do not know if it was from the casts or how the directors executed the scenes and all. But it was not hitting for me. It fell like the interest of the drama just slowly disappeared as we reach for the finale.

Although, I must say, I really loved and found the second lead couple more interesting. That is just my personal opinion. But yea, this is definitely a pretty fluffy show to watch.

One of the best K-BLs!

Korea takes the BL industry by storm and they create such masterpieces. Even before Bl,Korea was good at adapting webtoons/manhwas, and now that they took on the Yaoi also, the success is roaring. This series is one of the examples. The actors, not only MLs - everyone, did such a great job in telling the story and their overall chemistry is top! I was a little disappointed at first with their kisses but i honestly think it's because i know the manhwa and i raised my expectations based on it, when it's not the best thing to do. The adaptation is just a story follower, not a manhwa coming to life. Afterwards i completely ignored that and i could enjoy the series as one should, because it's one of the top BLs - and in the last ep i got my reward, an improvement-that's all i'm saying :) I usually think about smt per ensemble and when it comes to different aspects of a show,i don't like to put the blame on just a particular set of people. So, if the kisses were lacking, that doesnt mean that it's necessarily the actors fault. I do not care, because as long as there's the chemistry, other signs of affection and the needed tension i can pass it trough and enjoy the series. I would be very disappointed with myself if i would resume my entertainment level to just some kisses. I am watching for the story, not to get hot and bothered :)))) If it does happen though, i won't complain. Double standards,i know :))) let's move on....
You can see the actors are comfortable with eachother and they work well together. It had funny bits here and there without making it cringe. This is one thing i love about K-Dramas, the humour that is a given, they are naturally funny so it doesn't feel forced at all and no matter the plot, the funny bits flow natural. Gongchan's smile lights up a room and Seo Won's manner and gaze makes you feel all the emotions. The second leads are just simply a treat and seeing how the things didn't conclude in a way or another for them,i really do hope that the directors are thinking about making a series about them, maybe with small peeks into WY and TJ life. Wishful thinking :P
The OST was perfect also! I had my share of series where the music felt so out of place or it was too loud or at the wrong moment and it ruined a good story.
Being an adult, i will always be a sucker for mature stories, i relate better to them. That doesn't mean i don't enjoy a highschool /university story, but an adult environment hits different for me, hence why my top Bl series are mostly on that trope.
That being said, I hope everyone who read this will or already enjoyed this series as much as the rest of us who are raving about it :P
On to the next masterpiece SK! Fighting!

Vile!

I hated this drama, the first few episodes were OK but after that each episode was just dark and depressing leading up to the obvious and unforgivable ending.
The story starts with Won getting fired from his job. His boss tells him that if he can find the chairman's favorite potter he will get him his job back. He decides to take a break away and luckily meets the potter, he starts spying on him and reporting back to his boss. Over the next 7 episodes he uses the potter's friends to help him get close and find out information, searching his house, reading his mail and just being a complete vile pig.
In between being scum he starts having feeling for the potter, we then get the longing looks and all the normal sweet moments. It never really made much sense to me how one scene is all lovey dovey and then the next one is him calling the boss or emailing a report about the potter, how can I like this guy?
7 episodes later and they have started dating, but he's still not told the potter the truth. It is meant to be a love story, but every episode is tainted because one is a scumbag lying and deceiving the other one.
I don't care if he's fallen in love with him, it's been 7 episodes, 7 episodes out of 10 of me watching Won befriending someone for all the wrong reasons and only feeling guilty because he now has feeling for him.
The potter finds out the truth and breaks up with Won and I am finally happy. I would have liked some violence or maybe had Yoon spit in his face, but at least the scum as now been dumped.
The potter's friends for some unknown reason all decide to give him terrible advice and take Won's side, these people were also lied to and used by Won but they don't seem to mind.
Not really caring seems to be a theme in this drama, Won invites someone to his Birthday getaway knowing that his other friend won't like it, but no one gets angry or annoyed
Won leaves the Birthday getaway halfway through without telling his friend who organized it for him, but no one got angry or annoyed.
Won spends months lying and using everyone, but again, no one cared. The potter ( Yoon ) who is the victim, even blames himself for what Won did to him. Won, twice in the drama tells Yoon that he feels wronged because Yoon doesn't trust him anymore.
The drama ends when Yoon chases after Won and apologizes to him, the guy is scum but somehow he as become the victim in this drama.
If he had come clean earlier in the drama I could have liked this drama, but it was too little loo late and what he did was unforgivable.
Yoon kept having flashbacks to all their sweet moments, it made no sense to me. After finding out that Won had been lying and deceiving him all these months, all these sweet moments would now be sour moments, the memories would hurt more because he loved him.
Forgiving someone is the easy part, forgetting is the difficult part, that is the part that will tear you apart inside and stop you taking someone back. All your good times together get destroyed, you sit there questioning the sincerity of their previous words and actions until it drives you crazy.
