Nothing happens?

I watched this solely because I saw a reddit post where someone asked for the Drama with the least chemistry between main leads in Thai BL and like 60% of the answers mentioned this one.

I don’t personally think the chemistry between the actors is the biggest issue. It’s the story that doesn’t really pick up anywhere. Honestly I don’t feel like anything happens, and even when something happened at some point I was not engaged enough to care.
I only finished this cause I was doing something else during so it didn’t really matter that nothing happened.

That’s probably why their relationship feels off, cause it never really gets built at all in the first place.

Side couples were ok, at least I was sort of engaged with them lol.

4.5 stars because Perth was precious and given the strange role/plot he did a good job. Personally not a fan of the other actor in this one, but honestly he didn’t get much of a chance to show his skill either…

Dangerous???

I watched this a while ago…but I am just wondering how was it a dangerous romance??! There was nothing actually dangerous about it and it was technically not forbidden or anything so i’m confused on that part. Other than that, it was decent. I like the ship but Chimon looked uncomfortable in certain parts of it. Idk if it was intentional or just how he actually felt when it was being filmed. The plot was ok, but it could’ve been more. I would like to see this ship in a better drama since this was their first one so it’s too soon to make any real criticism. For Perth, I think this role suited him so I would like to see him in more “bad boy” roles. The side couple was also cute especially since I like the enemies to lovers trope (at times).

Hopefully the next PerthChimon series is better than this one. It was just lacking in some areas and didn’t get interesting until the middle/end. I did enjoy it at times but it just wasn’t living up to my expectations or to the hype.

Background story is great

I think it's something I would binge watch often whenever I am bored because it's an easy to watch series. The main leads did have chemistry. I don't know why everyone says they don't. I think it's the kiss scenes that were awkward but other than that it was great. They also highlighted b*llying in school and how things are handled if the offender is in power. I especially liked the way they showed how the teacher was wrong and turned a blind eye. It's quite typical in those aspects except the background of Kanghan. While in such serieses with a rich father the dad's usually very strict ir doesn't care about the child and sets high expectations from them. But this one is different. Here Kanghan acted the way he did was because his father never set any expectations from him and he felt neglected. That sounds like something everyone would want but as someone who has gone through the same I could relate alot. I think this is the best thing of the plot. Also I liked the intensity of the story. I think it's worth watching.

Heart in the Wind

Regardless of any enjoyment I got out of watching the show, I had to have a friend tell me when Kang stopped being such an absolute douche and then skip to that point, because I couldn't stand him in the beginning, so it immediately loses points there.

Some people are upset the romance itself wasn't 'dangerous.' But I will remind you that the native title is "Heart in the Wind." The English title played you. Don't blame the show's plot for that.

-

Likes:
- Perth acts his butt off here, and I really enjoyed him. Scenes where Kang got upset, where he got teary eyed or straight up cried, were always lovely. Kang's story is of a boy who desperately wants *someone* to believe in him, someone to want him for more than his money, someone to tell him he's capable of more. And that's tragic and sweet. (I still absolutely abhor him in eps 1-2)

- I thought Chimon did rather well too, except for crying scenes. I've heard people have issues with his kissing scenes, but the only one I thought was too tense was the first one, and it was tense for a Reason, so? Yeah, his kissing didn't bother me overmuch.

- I liked that we had a legitimate Love Triangle for all of 20 minutes, until two sides realized they're actually bi and moved to other pursuits. (It is still weird to date your ex-teacher, even if you're lesbians, though. I can't...I can't quite get over that.)

- Saifah and Sailom's relationship.

- Max and Auto becoming Best Friends Forever. I loved every minute of it. (and if they end up dating, I'm okay with that too.)

- The development of Guy and Nava's relationship. (Tho RIP them after that bar scene. They would both be dead, or at least in the hospital.)

- The study montages. I loved them.

- Kang taking care of a sick Sailom and finishing the assignment for him. Kang with little kids was amazing (I saw him with the kids in Korat and said 'one day, he's going to teach little kids soccer' and then WHAT DOES HE DO in the final episode? <3)

I find it hilarious that I trusted Papang implicitly when he walked on camera in Not Me, dressed like a mechanic and actively plotting crime and anti-government movements, but Papang as a nursing assistant, dressed in soft colors and smiling a lot? Hm, something feels fishy here. XD

-

Issues:
- the show REALLY likes its flashbacks. There are so many sad or romantic montages of previous scenes. Every episode has at least one.

- they tried to make things So Dramatic, cutting to every single person before something happened, sometimes twice, that I was clicked ahead 5 seconds at a time just going 'Okay, I GET IT already, geez.'

- I've seen promises that go belly up before, but Kang doing a 180 less than 60 seconds after making that promise? That wins some kind of Shitty Behavior award, right? And then he's continuously shitty to Sailom for a full episode, multiple days their time, until suddenly he says 'I've always been here' like he never left Sailom's side because he was following him around on his motorcycle? Bro. Bro, what are you *talking about*? You kicked him out of your house. You yelled at him and told him you would never help him again. You responded to his goodbye thanks by basically telling him he didn't belong anymore. That is the shittiest 'I never left you' I have ever seen, dude.

- Guy struggles learning to walk again. Then Nava punches him and calls him on being sad, they cry about it, and literally like 24 hours later, Guy is sans-crutches or brace and is walking just fine?

- Someone doesn't understand how roofies work.

It's not really an issue, but hot damn, someone got majorly hurt in every single soccer match. Sports have never been so dangerous.

Likable main couple, decent BL with significant flaws

The story of the main couple is fairly decent, with Sailom and Kanghan taking a familiar enemies-to-lovers route. There is some awkwardness in the transition though. Kanghan and his gang's bullying of Sailom and his friends is really malicious, but quite abruptly Kanghan saves Sailom from actual gang members while he's on a quest to intimidate him.

It may or may not be a good thing that the story can be a little unpredictable. Just when things get really serious, the plot takes a markedly light-hearted turn. Then just as things seem to be pretty light-hearted, the situations suddenly become serious again, such as when Saifah (Sailom's brother) is arrested for allegedly shooting Kanghan's father. Even the characters vacillate: we see Kanghan promising to stand by Sailom no matter what happens, and the next moment, we see Kanghan telling Sailom to leave because Saifah has confessed (falsely) to shooting Kanghan's father. He even makes a totally unwarranted remark about poor people to his grandmother. Then almost just as suddenly, Kanghan is helping Sailom again.

There are certainly commendable attempts to show the changes in Kanghan's character, but the explanations are not really compelling. It is true that he changes after his mother's death, but it does not seem convincing that the problems he faces would cause a reasonable person to become a nasty bully. Ultimately, the story seems torn between giving us BL fluff and dealing with more serious themes, and the two impulses are not juggled well.

One thing that is done quite nicely at first is the presentation of inequality in society. This is clearly represented in the uniforms worn by the students. The poorer students' uniforms look yellowed and washed out. Together with how even the authority figures in school blatantly favor the wealthy students when it is obvious that Kanghan, a wealthy student with an influential father, is viciously bullying others. Unfortunately, the issue of the rich-poor divide is not developed well in the course of the story. While the story starts off by pointing out the gross injustice that exists, it eventually glosses over things by presenting the wealthy characters as good people. In fact, problems are ultimately solved by the benevolent wealthy. Kanghan's grandmother intervenes when there is injustice in the school.

When Sailom is engaged as Kanghan's tutor by the latter's grandmother, it is not even just a matter of the wealthy helping to solve problems. Sailom is fired after Kanghan fails a subject despite showing improvement in his grades. I was hoping that it would be revealed that the grandmother can tell how much Kanghan cares about Sailom and has come up with a ploy to make him ask for Sailom to be his tutor again. However, there is no such revelation, which also makes the characterization of the grandmother a little uneven. It seems to show that the wealthy can ultimately be callous if they wish to. Kanghan manages to get his grandmother to let Sailom be his tutor again, and the debt that Sailom's family owes will be paid off if he manages to help Kanghan do well enough to get into the university. Perhaps unintentionally, this shows that the wealthy have the power to make or break the lives of the poor. There could have been some strong social critique here, but somehow things are glossed over. Eventually, the lives or Sailom and his brother are improved because of the benevolent wealthy. This is symbolized by how Kanghan's grandmother takes the trouble to get a medication for Saifah. (Yes, there's that unevenness in characterization. She is generally a reasonable and kind person, and the way she fires Sailom is off-character.)

I do like the series simply as BL. Apart from how Kanghan's bullying of Sailom is too over the top, the couple dynamics are actually great. However, the stories of other (potential) couples are underdeveloped. The series spends a fair bit of time showcasing the tension between Guy and Nawa and not enough time on their romance. A couple of flashback scenes in the last two episodes show how they noticed each other in the past but these flashbacks do not complement the hostility they show each other. There are also hints of romantic interest between Saifah and his friend, Name. However, Name only appears in the series when he is needed in the main plot, and there is barely any attempt to show their relationship further. Why bother with these other couples then?

I did enjoy this series, but it has some flaws that make it less than great.

Como se dice I didn't want them to get back together

For very early on I wanted to drop this series since bully x victim trope but how sailom handled the bullying was entertaining. But the last 3 episodes I really didn't want them to get back together. I get his father getting shot but what does that have to do with your boyfriend ಠ_ಠ. Like he's just ask shocked as everyone else. For them to just hash it out like he didn't treat him like the worse for something his brother didnt even do. "You still don't want to believe that your brother shot my dad?" Like what? Can't be me though but have your little relationship. Maybe because I just finished only friends I find it okay for not every couple to get together. The second couple of Guy and Nawa was cute or whatever. But another unhealthy start to a relationship. Hey highschool trauma bonding at its best.

Dangerous Romance or Dangerous Romcom?

Not only will you be getting some stellar acting which is not a surprise because Chimon and Perth have shown us time and time again that they mean business when they act but you’ll also laugh your ass off. It’s been a minute since I’ve watched a new drama and genuinely laughed out loud.
I really want to praise this drama for giving us these little comedic reliefs in such a heavy topic drama that focuses on a lot of unfortunate realities for many people in this world. In all seriousness its not only visually appealing with the cinematography but the acting and soundtrack slaps. Watch it!!!!

Standard high school BL with a twist

The ship between Perth and Chimon worked well. They both are experienced (BL) actors and got the chemistry well going. Chimon keeps looking like age has no effect on him.
The OST doesn’t stay with you, but they do have a famous classical piano piece coming in now and then (Spiegel im Spiegel, guided with the violin).
The side couple stayed a long time on enemy ground to get together in ep11. Found out later they played a main couple in 2020’s my gear your gown (not seen it)
Good that a non typical boy as Euro got casted. Other actors are also known from other BL’s
The story itself has some bullying in the beginning with appalling teachers not taking action. Moves further to Perth seeking recognition from his father to a violent twist in ep10.
Not bad to have watched it, but wouldn’t rewatch.

One of my favorite bls of 2023

I don’t nnow if it’s because I watched it once a week as the episodes came out, but I really enjoyed this series. The plot was kind of interesting and a bit different in some ways of what we’ve seen before, not too cliche in my opinion. The mls also had great chemistry and they are really cute together. I also LOVED the side couple. The development of their relationship was absolutely adorable and their chemistry was off the roof (dare I say better than the mls🤭) in my opinion. I definitely recommend watching it!

I ended up loving this…

so I normally don’t write reviews… but I feel compelled to here. I actually watched this twice. the first time, I’d let all the hate this series got impact my thoughts on the overall show. but I found myself grabbing for it again recently and did a rewatch.

here is the thing, we already know we’re going to get some of the same stuff we do in other Thai BLs set in a school setting. let’s just move past that and tak about what this series did different that made it a solid show for me.

first, I don’t think they should have played up the bullying aspect because at its core this isn’t a bully series. and I think that’s where all the hate comes from. it was portrayed as a bully turned to lovers show, but in reality, that really wasn’t it.

we have a kid (Kang)desperate to be seen and accepted for who he is especially by his father. so he acts out.

and we have another kid (sailom) who is trying his best to deal with really shitty hands dealt to him and trying to find the good if at all possible.

actually when you pull back and think of it, they are both trying to deal with the shitty cards laid out for them. albeit one of them is way more privileged than the other.

when you take away the bully stuff you get two kids who want to be loved and who love with their whole heart. take Sailom after seeing Kang put the lock on Pim’s lock, despite his feelings he tried to help Kang be with Pim. he put aside his feelings so Kang could potentially find happiness since at this point it was clear Sailom could see Kang felt unloved and unseen so he tries to help. actually the whole show he tries to help encourage Kang.

the whole father thing and Sailom’s brother I thought was really interesting and really changed the dynamics of the show. we end up seeing Sailom isolate himself since he now truly believes he has no one in the world but himself.

was the chemistry messy at times? yeah. did I have to remind myself this was a new pairing and I can’t compare to Perths old pairing? yeah. did it have new elements you don’t seen in a lot of Thai BLs? yeah, in my opinion it did. did it also have a lot of the same old stuff? yeah to a point.

either way I think my rewatch was a lot better than my first go around since I’d let so many comments on this series sway what I thought.

I liked it. It wasn’t the same cookie cutter university thai BLs we normally get.

I’d say at least give it a chance to episode 4/5 and the decide if you want to keep going.

without wind how could a windmill spin

Oh, what an incredible journey it has been with KanghanSailom, portrayed by the talented Perth and Chimon. Dangerous Romance (or better yet, Heart in the Wind) touched the depths of our hearts with its beautiful storytelling and their mesmerizing performances. Kanghan, like a steadfast windmill, brought stability and strength to Sai, while Sailom, as gentle as the wind itself, brought love and purpose to Kang. Their on-screen chemistry was electric, making us believe in the power of true connection. It's not all perfect, there are a lot of plot holes and rushed things, but that's not the actors fault and they were still able to make this unforgettable.
