In the Tokyo Azabu area, the president of a company, Yumioka Yuichi, is stabbed to death at his home. It is revealed through the testimony of his daughter, Misako, that his wife, Naoko, had a lover. The police suspect a murder related to divorce and take Naoko in for questioning. Naoko initially denies the crime, but when the conversation turns to a man she had been meeting in Ueno Park, she confesses to the murder. The defense attorney, Harashima Tamotsu, suspects that Naoko may be protecting someone and begins to investigate her hometown, Ibaraki Hirakata.
