“From now on, I would like to work together and live a calm life. Also, I would like to take more care of each of my activities, like music, acting, and writing, than ever before. Thank you very much for your warm support. I would like to continue doing what I find interesting, so that those who support me, near and far, can enjoy it even more.”

Both stated their desire to live a calm life together, with Hoshino wanting to take more care of each of his activities and Aragaki wanting to have a modest but prosperous life. No exact date of marriage was announced in both announcements.

Both actors starred in the 2016 drama Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu (also known as We Married as a Job). Based on the manga of the same name, Aragaki Yui played the role of Moriyama Mikuri, a university graduate who lost her job and began working as a housekeeper to a businessman named Tsuzaki Hiramasa, played by Hoshino Gen. Numerous events led them to a contractual marriage, before they actually fell in love. The series addressed the issues of inequality between men and women in Japan. Last January, Hoshino and Aragaki reprised their roles and released a new year special titled, Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu: Ganbare Jinrui! Shinshun Special!!

The drama and the OST (which was also written and performed by Hoshino) gained high viewership ratings in Japan where many fans recreated their own version ending credits dance.

The announcement of engagement was well-received in Japan, with “Gakki” - Aragaki’s nickname - becoming the trending topic in Twitter. Umino Tsunami, author of the original manga where the series was based on, congratulated them while also stating her surprise that the couple was really getting married just like the story.
