Kakao Entertainment released the webtoon adaptation of JTBC's weekend drama King the Land on June 10. By presenting the same story in two different formats - drama and webtoon - simultaneously, they aim to maximize popularity.

King the Land is a highly anticipated JTBC series. It tells the story of Gu Won and Cheon Sa Rang. Gu Won is a chaebol heir who hates fake smiles, and Sa Rang is a concierge whose profession forces her to wear a smile on her face regardless of the situation.

The story unfolds at the VVIP lounge King the Land, which is every concierge's dream.

The decision to make a webtoon adaptation of the K-drama was conceived during the production stage of the drama. Recognizing the exceptional artistic value and potential of the series, Kakao Entertainment proposed expanding the story's world beyond what the drama could cover and presenting it as a webtoon.

The webtoon version will present an expanded universe of the story, covering prequels, main stories, and sequels. It will delve into the childhood of Gu Won and Cheon Sa Rang, which won't be depicted in the drama. As the drama airs, the webtoon will continue serializing stories from the same timeline, offering the audience the exciting opportunity to enjoy the story of King The Land in different story formats simultaneously.

Furthermore, it's explained that even after the conclusion of the drama, the webtoon will continue to explore the backstory and subsequent events of Gu Won and Cheon Sa Rang, catering to the curiosity of readers.

The webtoon King the Land releases new chapters every Saturday on Kakao Page and Kakao Webtoon.

The K-drama King the Land will premiere on June 17 on Netflix.  Meanwhile, watch the latest teasers here.
