Lee Jin Wook Reveals Why He Chose "Dear Hyeri"

Actor Lee Jin Wook reveals he chose to star in Dear Hyeri because of Shin Hye Sun.

Dear Hyeri tells the story of Eun Ho (Shin Hye Sun) who suffers from dissociative identity disorder and manifests a new personality due to a deep emotional wound she carries.

Lee Jin Wook plays the role of Jung Hyun Oh, a good-looking and skilled anchor who was in a long-term relationship with Joo Eun Ho for eight years before they broke up.

When asked why he chose Dear Hyeri, Lee Jin Wook explained, "I wanted to do it because I heard that Shin Hye Sun, whom I've always wanted to work with, would be in it and that I'd get to reunite with director Jung Ji Hyun, whom I worked with on Nine: Nine Times Time Travel." "The script was interesting. The stories between the characters connected to each other felt new and fresh." He added, "To prepare for the role, I met with announcers, talked with them, listened to their comments, and got some tips." 

Lee Jin Wook also boasted about his perfect teamwork with Shin Hye Sun. "It was great. I already knew she was a good actress, but I was even more impressed working with her." He continued, "I spent the most time thinking about the chemistry and rapport between Eun Ho and Hyun Oh. I discussed a lot with Shin Hye Sun about how to make their time together and story feel good. We joked around a lot in between and shared many conversations as we built the characters together. I'm most excited to see how the comfort of a couple in a long-term relationship will come across."

Regarding the character's synchronicity with himself, Lee Jin Wook said, "Jung Hyun Oh is quite similar to me." "His decision to break up because he didn't want to burden Eun Ho felt understandable, as I could see myself doing something similar."

Dear Hyeri is described as a drama that makes one reflect on happiness. When asked what moments make him feel happiest, Lee Jin Wook answered, "I feel happiest when I’m with the people I love." "I realized once again how precious and thankful it is to be able to see them whenever I want." 

Lastly, Lee Jin Wook said, "The key highlight of the show is Shin Hye Sun's brilliant performance as Eun Ho and Hye Ri. I believe the moments of love and breakup between Eun Ho and Hyun Oh will resonate with anyone who has experienced love. I hope Dear Hyeri gives viewers a chance to reflect on their past."
