Whenever I see

"you were assassinated" ... but the person wasn't killed, there was an attempt, but they still translate it it "you were assassinated". Why is this? I have seen this in countless countless historical cdramas. Maybe they got it wrong in one, but not all.

Is this a cultural difference That an attempt is the same as accomplishing it?
