Sho, a young teenager that lives by himself in Tokyo, receives a surprise visit from his father. His father is carrying a white box, the he explains to his son, contains the ashes of his Aunt Matsuko. She was recently found murdered by a river in Akawara. His father explains that Aunt Matsuko lived alone and because he has to go back to his hometown, asks Sho to go to his aunt's former apartment and clean up any mess that may be left behind. Once Sho, arrives at his Aunt's apartment, he discovers that she lived in a filthy old apartment, full of trash bags filled with junk that she has had collected over the years. Sho does not remember ever meeting Matsuko, nor does he know of anything about her past. As he goes through her belongings and speaks with some of her neighbors, he gradually pieces together her life which was filled with tragedy and heartbreak.

    whats in it?

    1. best tragidramedy japanese movie that seen by bokami
    2. this isnt a romcom but it looks like it
    3. musical? (yes, but the musical scene is just for the

    protagonist psychological POV)..hmm metaphor?

    5. its long but very fast pacing...and no scene was boring from

    5mins onward to end
    6. it have a yum yum puzzling story and once you combine

    it...you will get an emotinal overflow

    7. only ironman will not like this

    8. the storytelling is nonlinear so confusion will rise if your a

    fan of clche and straightforward spoonfeed kind of plots

    I’m sorry if this review will not be coherent enough but I’m writing it right after watching this movie, so I’m still highly affected.

    Let’s start with explaining why did I decide to watch this movie. Well, there are two main reasons: firstly, because Eita is in it and I always wanted to watch something with this guy and secondly, the poster – it intrigued me and reminded me of a movie Amelia; it also fooled me to think this will be a hilarious comedy. So I gave it a try.

    Very meaningful movie, despite what you see, it left me with such a good feeling. An instant favourite. Definitely one of the best movies I've ever seen, very skillfull, both artsy but also with a good message. It's a work of art. I want more movies like this, that leave impression o my soul, change me and never leave me.

    Agreed. Great movie, but as for the "who did it", that was just kinda lame...but I still love this movie. Completely sad, but meaningful..

    Oh my God. This movie is a masterpiece - beautifully shot, amazingly acted and most importantly it tells a great, emotional story.

    This was one of the first Jmovies I had ever watched. I remember thinking how weird it was, but once it got to the end, it made a lasting impression on me. <3 I think I should rewatch it now that I've seen more Jdramas/movies.
