Meiko (Aoi Miyazaki ) is a recent college grad working as an office lady in a job she hates. Her boyfriend Naruo (Kengo Kora) lives in her apartment, because his part-time job as an animator doesn't pay enough to pay the rent. Furthermore, Naruo tentatively fronts a rock band that hasn't got out of the "practice" stage. One day, Meiko decides she has had enough with her office job and quits. When Naruo hears of her decision, he reacts with trepidation fearing their lack of income may put a crimp on his rock band hopes. Meiko does have enough money saved to live for a year without working and hopes to find herself during this time. Meiko would also like Naruo to become serious with his band. Without knowing what tomorrow will bring, can Meiko find happiness and will Naruo's band ever become more than a pipe dream?

The movie was a manga adaptation from Asano Inio's art and it has so many significant parallels that I felt like I was reading the manga all over again while watching the movie with the plus of music. (Which was pretty fantastic by the way) Though some situations were not brought up in the film, i.e. one of the guys was really in love with the main protagonist but that wasn't really dwelled on, the thought of the manga was still incorporated and didn't make much difference.

I think I enjoyed Solanin because of the fact that I was able to read the manga in the first place and was able to appreciate it more due to the involvement of music. Seeing Aoi Miyazaki sing her

Solanin concers actual problem. Nowdays, young people don't know what they will do after school, They are totally lost. They start working and every day is the same. Meiko and Naru feel it. In the first part of film I though that maybe they feel nonsense, but they make great couple too. Then I've just waited for a tragedyaccident/death. It was predictable! Luckily, Meiko felt better and played the great concert with Rotti. The song was very pathetic. Suddenly, simple, gray band stood on the stage and showed own music.

This movie is surreal because it was freaking parallel to the manga.

Aoi Miyazaki was amazing all through out the film. Music, plot and story line was awesome!
