Her parents are the second-generation of Koreans living in Japan. Her birth name is Lee Cho Ja, and her Japanese birth name is Hoshiyama Hatsuko. She made her debut under the name of Hoshiyama Hatsuko but a few years later she changed it to Reisen Ri (or Lee Yeo Seon in Korean).
She acquired her Japanese citizenship in 1975 and she changed one character of her birth name, although the pronounciation was kept the same (previous: 李初子 / new: 大靏初子). In February 1987 she also changed some characters of her stage name to the one that is kept until this day (李麗仙).
She became known for her role as the vice principal Chiharu Ishikawa in Kinpachi sensei, 3rd grade B.
She died at the age of 79 on June 22, 2021 due to pneumonia.
