Roy Kim
- Name: Roy Kim
- Native name: 로이킴
- Given name: Kim Sang Woo
- Also Known as: 김상우,
- Nationality: South Korean
- Gender: Male
- Born: July 3, 1993
- Age: 30
After attending elementary and middle school in South Korea, Kim's parents sent him to the United States. He attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. in 2013 after auditioning for Superstar K 4 and alternated between his studies in the U.S. and his music career in South Korea until 2019. He made his debut in 2013 with the studio album, "Love Love Love", which included the hit single "Bom Bom Bom." The album was very popular and he won the new artist award at both the 15th Mnet Asian Music Awards and the 2014 Golden Disc Awards.
In 2019, Kim returned to Seoul to respond to allegations against him due to the Burning Sun scandal investigation that sent Big Bang's Seungri, Jung Joon Young, and F.T. Island's Choi Jong Hoon to jail. Roy Kim was accused of sharing illicit photographs via SMS, but the case was dropped and Georgetown University granted Kim his degree in Sociology. In 2020, he released the single "Linger On" after almost 2 years of hiatus and then enlisted in the Marine Corps for his mandatory military service, which he completed in December 2021. He remains active but, despite being cleared of any wrongdoing in the Burning Sun scandal, his manager believes the entertainment industry is blocking Roy Kim as he has not able to promote his music on TV and radio stations refuse to play his songs.
