Actions speak louder than words

It might be obvious for some, but for me, I had no idea who the male lead was and to my surprise, it was a good torture.

For the budget this drama had, I appreciate the sets and costume. I really loved the FL’s costumes, they were light and airy and the colors were beautiful. The CGI wasn’t to par and a lot of the sets were old, but they did brighten it up with vibrant colors and new paint trim.

I love me a good love triangle and I love a triangle where you don’t really know who you are rooting for. Zhao Lu Si is the FL and she is very pretty and bubbly to look at. Her face is so youthful and her expressions are adorable. She was the perfecting casting, even though she’s only 23.

This is my first drama with Li Hong Yi (brother) and June Wu (the crush). I personally wasn’t fond of Qiu Yi’s (the brother) look. It was very feminine and flowy, but I guess they went that route because he’s the leader of the demon sect and the white costume he wore mostly contrast his “evil” deeds. I also didn’t like Xiao Bai’s (the crush) look either. His wig was probably the most horrible wig I’ve seen for a main cast person. You can 100% see the net lining, the costume people dropped the ball on that. I’m glad Qiu Yi’s had a long wig and there was no net lining. Also, as an American, I noticed A LOT of dramas with the name Xiao Bai, is this like a hot name or something? It’s a cute name, but I’m just curious to why it’s so popular.

Anyhow, casting was spot on. I love Li Hong Yi’s expression and persona he created for his character. He pulled off the elegant, but evil person down. The chemistry between him and the FL was very good. Now, as for June Wu, maybe it’s his character, but his expressions where lacking and he just seemed very emotionless and I was underwhelmed. I couldn’t really see his love for the FL and yes, he’s pretty to look at, but his wig (and I know it’s not this fault) completely turned me off. Maybe they did that on purpose, I don’t know.

The push and pull throughout the drama was pretty addicting to watch, once you got into the heart of the story. I had to get past the first few episodes where the FL was falling all over the crush, because it was just a little over the top silly for me, but ONCE you get into the deeper part of the story, it really takes off.

The best part of the drama for me was when they started to build up the relationship and characters between the FL and both guys. You got each person’s POV and that’s when I was trying to figure out who she would end up with.

Like most C dramas, they extend the story a touch too long and the last eight episodes got dramatic, over the top and misunderstandings start to unfold. You got the push away storyline and that’s just pretty much typical right? Once I got past all of that again, I was left satisfied finishing.
