Started out strong.....

My Dear Guardian started out strong for me. I felt like they were starting off with high energy and you really got a feel for the characters.

I wouldn't compare this to You Are My Hero, even though one is a military person and the other one is a doctor, these two dramas have completely different storylines (but if you like that troupe, it's there).

I really like Jonny Huang, I fell in love with him in Something Just Like This, he can convey pretty good chemistry with the actress he plays against. As for Li Qin, I thought she was fine in Joy Of Life (although her screen time was minimal) but she sure overacts in My Dear Guardian. I didn't notice it at first, until midway and then I was getting kind of annoyed.

The overall premise of the drama is good. You have two people who butt heads and it's a love/hate kind of troupe. BUT to stretch it out for 40 episodes, that's a bit much. It gets really repetitive with the fighting back and forth, but maybe you are into that?

I think if you are a fan of the actors, it's worth watching, but I was slightly disappointed.

High school Drama with Newbie baby actors

I'm not sure if it has the same look and feel as the school series, but if you want a drama about young kids in high school that like carpentry, then go for it.

I was curious to how the school series was going to be portrayed in 2021 and had it not been marketed as a school series, I wouldn't have had expectations. With that said, it was an okay drama for me.

I had mixed feelings on the casting. I do appreciate the young cast (everyone is 22) so it's very authentic but with that, you have a lot of newbie actors.

Jo Yi Hyun - Loved her. She is the FL and she was absolutely adorable. I loved her expressions of emotions and I also thought she was very good in "All of Us are Dead". I'm excited to watch her career.

Kim Yo Han - He has a baby face and as the ML, I felt like this wasn't cast right. I wasn't a fan of him in "A love so Beautiful" and although he has come a long way from his debut drama, he still has a long way to go. He's a decent actor, just not sure he fit the ML role yet.

Hwang Bo Reum - The thing with the second FL, I liked her character a lot. I think she is a really good actress with a unique voice, but she acted so well as the villain in "Dear M", I have typed cast her as the villain and I can't get that out of my mind.

Choo Young Woo - I thought he fit more of the ML type. He just has a bigger built and to me a little more handsome, although rough. I didn't like his character per say, They had to make him a little annoying but I think it's because he fits the ML role. I thought he was a decent actor and I'm excited to watch his career.

The first half of the series was a winner for me. I liked the interactions between the characters. I was curious to where the relationships were going to go and it just seemed very light hearted and warm.

I liked that the kids went to a specialized school that focused on wood working (a little far fetched?) probably but different.

I do feel like the budget was very apparent in this drama. The school was tiny and students that actually went to the school was probably the only ones that they showed in class. It just seemed like a very lack luster kind of drama. That being said, dramas don't always have to high budget, but you need a good plot to pull everything together.

I felt like the plot was very predictable and usually that doesn't bother me in dramas, but it made it a chore for me to watch the last 4 episodes. As were were going away from the relationships, we were getting into the nitty storyline of getting justice, but one main storyline can't carry the rest of the drama.

Overall, if you are looking for a high school drama with a little of puppy love and high school politics, this one will hit the sweet spot. But don't expect the school series level of caliber.

Strong FL lead, lots of comedy and Family Love!

I picked up the drama because of the high reviews. Even though this was a 40 episode drama, it really didn't feel like it to me. I really enjoyed the pacing, it was slightly slow, but a lot of character development.

I don't have any experience with the actors, but if you like pretty and a young cast, then there's plenty of that. The FL is beautiful and I really enjoyed her dubbed voice (not sure if it's her real voice). My favorite part was watching all of her costumes. I really enjoyed her outfits the best, it was bright, beautiful and very elegant.

The ML in my opinion is handsome, but I really didn't like the long wig they picked for him. It just looked so second male lead to me. I do like it when he wears his formal wig and all of his hair is out of face, it just frames his face better. I also wasn't 100% convinced on his dubbed voice. It was kind of breathy and sounded a little unnatural. I do like that more C drama male actors are going away from that stone-icy face to someone with more expressions.

I really enjoyed the first 30 episodes of the drama. I enjoyed watching the FL get engaged after engaged after engaged. So many guys fell in love with her and it was so entertaining watching her trying to figure out a way out of it. Of course the best part was her character and she was a strong lady and I loved that she knew martial arts (even though her body double was obviously a guy, I wished they got a girl for those parts).

The banter between the main leads is pretty good and the slow burn romance is fun to watch. I enjoyed the side stories as well and it's refreshing to see the FL centered around a positive family! No more over bearing parents to deal with.

The comic relief was great to have because it never made things too serious, but the comedy was never over the top, which I enjoyed.

Overall, it was an entertaining historical drama to watch. It's not a mainstream drama, but I love the strong characters and watching the FL get engaged so many times was too hilarious.

It is not a spicy melodramatic drama, but **GASP** a rom com!

Wrong marketing, but still a decent drama. If you are going into this drama expecting an adult spicy C drama (as spicy a C drama can get), I will let you know now... despite the

1.) Title - Love a night
2.) Opening credit song as seductive and melodramatic

It is not a spicy melodramatic drama, but **GASP** a rom com! It's actually a typical c drama rom-com and I still liked it.

I liked the FL lead from Love and Redemption and I'm glad she got a main lead role. I do wished they used her own voice, but her acting is cute. Her wardrobe was amazing and they didn't reuse a lot of it which I really liked.

The ML was in Love and Redemption too, but I don't remember him. I thought he was fine in Love at Night and if you wanted to see abs, you will get a lot of that in this one.

I do wish they actually ate on the show. I don't like it when actors take one or two bites and call it a scene. I really appreciate the seasoned actors that truly eat during their roles. It just makes it more authentic, but I get it, you don't get abs by eating carbs.

The main couple and the second couple were the best to watch. They do get equal screen time, so go into the drama knowing that. I liked the second couple because the older woman / younger male storyline was cute. He was like a little puppy that followed her everywhere! Also the second couple storyline was so different from the main leads, it was fun to watch.

I didn't like the 3rd couple at all. I found her annoying and the guy dull, so I fast forwarded them.

I liked there was hardly any angst or miscommunication. It was a pretty mature and open relationship. A lot of kissing and hugging, but nothing really beyond that.

Overall, it was a cute rom-com.

A lot of kissing scenes!

Very cutesy, sugary sweet rom-com with a lot of kissable moments.

I love cheesy C dramas and this one pretty much checks all the boxes.

Things I liked:

- The actors are older (mid thirties) and boy they don't look it! I was happy to see there is only a 3 year age gap between the actors.

- The wardrobe was pretty good when it wasn't on repeat. Since the actress is a rich girl, she wore a lot of Chanel and Gucci (the classic looking stuff, not the gaudy stuff).

- A lot of sweet, OTP, cheese ball moments which I am addicted to when I watch C dramas.

Such as:

fall kiss!,

rescuing the damsel in distress,

stand up for your women in a crowd of haters,

giving gifts and no limit credit card

dancing, catching eye moment scenes

and it goes on and on ....

I mostly enjoyed the drama, except for the last 4 episodes and the side couple. I felt like the drama had enough drama for the first 20 episodes and I was fine with a bunch of fillers and more cutesy moments, but there was extra drama thrown in and it for me felt like it came out of no where, or it was just too repetitive and I will admit I started to fast forward.

I wasn't a huge fan of the side couples. I didn't really feel the chemistry and there wasn't an organic connection for me.

Overall, first time watching the drama with the leading FL and ML and I'm a fan. I hope they get more leading roles because the chemistry between the two was really good. Like I said, a lot of kissing scenes!

Short, funny and easy to watch with pretty actors

I started this drama because I was really captivated by Teresa Li in Sword Snow Stride. I'm very surprised how different she acted in this drama then in Sword Snow Stride.

First off, the drama should have been called switched brides or something like that, not sure where they got "Truth or Dare", but it's easy to remember I guess.

I liked that it was a short and light hearted drama. I loved that the angst was low and the costume and hair wasn't the typical period piece dramas we usually see.

I will admit, that I liked the FL in Sword Snow Stride a lot more because I felt like she could convey dramatic and sad emotions better than being silly and light hearted ones. It felt a little over the top at some parts (her comical side), but maybe that was the whole point of the drama.

This is my first drama with the ML and he's very good looking to watch. I also liked that he didn't play the typical stoic non-expressive ML. He had expressions and it was a little rough, but it was better than no emotions.

It should also be noted that the drama is split between the two couples, since the brides are switched. I actually liked the second couple as well. It was a different dynamic and I liked that they were set at another location.

Most of the drama are the separate stories between the two couples, but I didn't feel like anything was dragged out. It's such a short drama, that's kind of hard to do.

Overall, it was light hearted, modern (for a period piece) and who doesn't like to watch young pretty actors on the screen? I felt like the drama needed higher reviews.

A good Vintage piece

For a 2018 drama, I feel like this drama aged fairly well. It has all the 2018 writing classic and costumes.

I didn't realized it was the same actors from The Blooms at Ruyi Pavilion and I'm glad they got to work together again. I really enjoyed the acting from the FL, I think Ju Jing Yi is an adorable and very pretty actress. I felt like she gave really great chemistry and even though her character was up and down for me, she played it well.

I feel like Zhang Zhe Han has improved a lot from this drama. In The Blooms at Ruyi Pavilion he basically had the same character role, but had a lot more emotion and depth in that one. In The Legend of Yan Xi, he was very stiff and at times I thought the drama was on pause because he never moved his eyes or facial expressions. Other than that, he was nice to look at and who can complain about the scene scenes?

Of course the costume and CGI isn't up to par to what we watch now, 4 years later, but at the time, it looked pretty grand. I'm glad we have moved away from gaudy sets and more subdue looks and muted color tones.

The first few episodes were hard to get through, only because the FL had to go through some hardships and I wasn't a fan of that, but towards the middle, it really picked up and I liked the antics they were getting into. I liked that she was a doctor and they were both saving people.

Of course in C drama fashion, the last bit kind of gets crazy, with misunderstandings, back stabbing and lot of fighting, but that is pretty typical.

Overall, if you are a fan of the actors or don't mind a vintage piece this one is worth trying.

Good Looking Cast, refreshing and light.

It took me a bit to get into this drama. I started it because I needed a high rated rom-com to watch with my sister while she was recovering from surgery. I thought it had pretty much all the cutesy c drama boxes checked.

I thought the main leads to be very attractive and fit their characters 100%. I'm not usually a fan of age gap, especially when the woman is older and the guy is younger, but to my surprise, this one didn't bother me. I think they just casted it right. I couldn't imagine any other ML than him. They had to get an idol looking figure to play that male role. I wasn't a huge fan of casting in My fated boy and I think that is what made the difference.

The drama is low on angst and doesn't have that typical misunderstanding troupe. It's basically about two people getting to know each other and respecting each other. It's very light and refreshing.

Like I said, it did take me some time to get into it. I did watch an episode here and there, it wasn't until mid-way I started to binge it. I think it was hard for me to get into the secondary characters and ML's childhood gal friend was SUPER annoying, but not villain annoying, just whinny. She was tolerable, but she was driving on my nerves.

Overall, it's an easy rom-com to watch if you want an age-gap troupe with really good looking cast and awesome fashion.

A low budget drama for what it is

I only started this drama because I saw that season 2 was just released and I thought, why not? It's good enough to have a season two. I have to say, this is a low budget rom-com historical drama, so you take that into consideration, which I did.

It's a funny drama with a lot of banter and angst between the leads. If you like that enemies to lover relationship, then that is for you. I felt like the FL was what troubled me the most. I found her very mean and pushy. I also didn't like the voice they used. Her voice is SUPER high pitched. I love a high pitched voice, but man, you had to get use to it.

I liked the ML and I liked that he overall more of less, chased after the FL. He never wavered and I applaud him for that, but I didn't see why he liked her so much since she was always running away from him.

It's a fast and short drama to watch when you need a break from the intense melodramas.

Very funny Rom-com

I feel like this drama is worth watching and you can make you own opinion on it. I waited for the drama to be fully released and decided to give it a go.

Honestly, I thought the drama was adorable, funny and just easy to watch. My only issue, ironically is the title, I don't like asterisks as "stars" because in American culture it's read as a curse word, but that's my personal opinion.

I love Lee Sung Kyung in Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo and she as always delivers. I love her long hair, awesome style and witty performance in this one. She had the perfect chemistry against the male lead and I couldn't imagine any other FL than her.

The banter between the leads is the best part of the drama. I love the cute hate to love troupe and I gobbled it up. The second and 3rd couples were cute on their own, although I felt like one of them was lacking in the chemistry department, but that is okay because the show is about the main leads.

Overall, I didn't find any issues in this drama. It was a true rom-com K drama that lives up to the expectations of a rom-com lover myself.

Not a rom-com, but a woman empowerment drama

I think if I didn’t have high rom-com expectations, I wouldn’t have been so disappointed. I went into this drama for the actors. I have seen almost everything Tan Song is in because she is just that good. I love her short stature, her bubbly personality and her smiles. She’s never lead me wrong. I’ve seen Ling Geng Xin in Princess Agents where I liked him more in that role.

My main issue with this drama was the tone and pacing. The first 10 episode was the ML being a horrible person to the FL. He was not supportive, he didn’t do anything adorable or cute that made you think he had best intensions. Not only did he say she wasn’t good at anything, but she wouldn’t amount to anything, he didn’t really care that she struggled. He treated her so harshly for 30% of the drama, I was basically against him from that point forward.

I started to look at the drama in a new light, as in, this is a woman empowerment drama and I was simply rooting for the FL to get her awesome power back. I was so happy to watch her figuring out issues (with little to no help from the ML) and kind of letting all the people that doubted her that she is just as good as them.

There was hardly any romantic interactions between the ML and FL. I found them to be bickering people that are just friends. The ML is only two years older than the FL and he acts and looks beyond the years. I was very shocked by this.

I felt like a lot of entertaining and moving moments happened when the FL was speaking to secondary characters, like the second ML or her best friend or my favorite person in the drama, her second boss. I really liked the relationship between the FL and her second boss because, well that is how the ML should have acted.

Husband liked the financial side of the show since he is in finance and could understand all of that language. It was easier for me to understand when he explained everything about “margin calls”, “bonds” “liquidated stocks”, so just note, it’s very financial heavy in the dialogue.

I’m happy the drama is only 32 episodes and costume and sets were decent to look at. I would watch it for the actors if you are super fans, but don’t expect your typical rom-com or heavy romance drama.

Lighter, funnier and cuter

As to the second half, season 2, it’s MUCH lighter and there are hardly any fight scenes. It really focuses on all relationships, there are many side relationships, maybe an additional three? So if you are interested in the cast and side characters, the second half / season will show you that.

I have mixed feelings on the second half of the series. I guess I wanted more drama and that’s very odd for me because I don’t like drama, I like low angst series. I do like that they changed up some costumes and so it was a little fresher.

Overall, if you like The Eternal series, 1, 2 and 3, it has the same look and feel of that drama with time traveling, comedy and funny FL leads that are from the modern times.

Quality is lacking, but LOVE the FL lead

As I’m waiting for some dramas to finish airing, I decided to pick up an old drama. It has a lower budget and really bad audio, BUT I love Zhao Lu Si and I’ll watch anything she is in.

So, going into this drama, I had the mindset of really low quality historical drama. I’ve seen some modern pieces with really bad audio and it’s always been fine, but this one is at a next level. You have some scenes that have no audio because they didn’t want to do all the sounds so they replace it with music. You have really bad slashes and crashes during fight scenes. Just don’t go into the drama with the best production quality.

The costumes are very repetitive and since it’s an older drama, it’s not the best. I’m a sucker for pretty costumes and don’t even get into the sets! The color combo of green and yellow is so out there.

Okay, so the drama is slap-stick comedy. The FL transported from modern world into back in time. She was in the medical field and I kind of wished they played on that more. The first season is about the FL getting use to the new world.

There is a love triangle between the Crowned Prince and the Prince’s uncle. I really enjoy the love triangle, because it’s cheesy C drama troupe I gobble up.

The star of the show is Zhao Lu Si, she knows how to do comedy and she knows how to do it well. I love her light voice, bubbly face and she is kind of fierce in the drama.

I actually enjoyed the ending of season 1 because it was a little serious and really set the right cliff-hanger.

Overall, the quality is lacking, but if you want slap-stick comedy with an awesome main lead. Well, it will pass the time for you and give you a chuckle here and there.

Not for the faint of heart

I didn't know anything going into this drama, except for it had Yang Mi and we all love her from Eternal Love. To my surprise the main leads don't really have an age difference (even though in the drama he seems at least 7-10 years older). Not a big issue, I kind of like that they picked people in their 30's. It makes everything more mature and more epic.

I can't describe my thoughts and feelings on this one. I love a low angst, high romance historical dramas and this is not a low angst drama. Most of the drama is hard to watch, it's very melodramatic and very intense, but for some reason, I couldn't stop watching it. It's like I was sucked into all of the abuse.

The first 30 episodes were what really drawn me in. It was intense and the pacing was good. There's a lot of push and pull between all characters and all relationships. There's 3 main relationships and each one goes into a different direction, so you are kind of always in a good spot. If one is failing the other relationship is thriving so you always have a couple to root for.

I'm curious to what William's Chen's real voice sounds like, because I read a review that they didn't use his voice. I do like Yang Mi's voice, but goodness she can make it high pitch and super youthful. I felt like ML's character was very much the martyr of the drama and you have to be okay going into that. It was a little much as times, but that's the story.

I felt like everything is a little much and intense and melodramatic at times, but again, that is the story.

So, be in the right mood for this. Note that the show was originally longer, but it's edited down so the last few episodes are kind of fragmented, but that's kind of typical to must historical dramas.
