A comfort rom-com

A Business Proposal became one of my favorites rom-com K-Dramas of all time. I did not expect this to happen, but the chemistry between the two couples and the personalities of every character in the show is so good that I was absorbed.

I started watching it when Netflix started to upload the episodes to their site. I know Kim Se Jeong from the Produce 101 series and became curious about her acting career, and she is a really good actress! Although I have not read the original webtoon –and then I do not know the character in the original work– I found Shin Ha Ri a really loveable character with a fun and energetic personality that does not feel tiresome for me. I like her development in the show and her chemistry with the male lead, Kang Tae Moo. He is quite the cliché “handsome and rich Korean CEO with a sad trauma” but is likable, I like him, at least he is not a walking red flag and is so sweet with the female lead. Ahn Hyo Seop did a good job portraying him and I became interested in him as an actor.
However, it is true that the main couple of the show is funny, likable, and has good chemistry, but the second couple just stole the show. Kim Min Gue and Seol In Ah have really good chemistry, their character development is great, and their relationship evolution feels so good to me. I am happy for the work the screenwriters and directors did and the effort they put into these two scenes. I like how they communicate their needs and limits and explain misunderstandings. For me, it is important that Cha Sung Hoon and Jin Young Seo's relationship is not so idealized and have this growth factor, she works on herself to be more independent, and he supports her in a very good way. It is probably the bare minimum, but at the same time, I have watched so many shows with this “I will change him!” topic that I am happy to have a couple that it is not perfect and can solve their problems in a healthy way for each other.
On the other hand, I did not like the grandfather evolution because for me it was way too much overextended. I could accept that there could be things that he does not like, and he cannot forget so easily, but I did not even feel his “antagonist” role so much fit his development. And the end of the show was not satisfying for me, I felt it was rushed and not properly developed, it just happened in less than a few minutes and the closing was “Oh, okay, so now all is solved because of magic so let’s end the show”.

To sum up, the show has become one of my favorite and comfort rom-com Korean shows. It could have been better, but it is quite good. I found it enjoyable till almost the end.

Overall cute, but Ando was the protagonist

To be honest, while watching the film I wondered whether Ando was the real protagonist of the story or not.

To begin with, Ninako confessing her feelings at the beginning of the movie was refreshing and cute. I really liked her and Ren's character. Mayuka's character wasn't as bad as I expected, I feel sad for her because it seems to me that she still loved Ren a lot when she decided to break up (I think that she even mentioned that, didn't she?). When it comes to the other characters, except for Ando, they're so forgettable... Neither Ninako's friends nor the boy who confessed to her had so much screentime. I don't know about the original work, but I believe they should had more opportunities to support her or show the boy's crush on her.

On the other hand, when it comes to Ando's character I found him quite annoying almost for the first half of the film. Even though, I think he's the most important character there? He had his own trauma and character development, he was the obstacle for the protagonist to date and also the person who made them date at the same time. It was as if the story was about Ando's unrequited love stories. I came to like him at the end of the movie, but if it weren't for him I don't think NinaRen would have had that story...

Anyways, overall it was a cute shojo movie to watch. I enjoyed it, though I'm not into triangle-love-stories.
