Read the books! Movie does not capture enough of story

First, I really really loved the manga and the light novels!!! I was so excited to hear that a live action movie was being released. I watched the anime series on Netflix, which was well done and followed the manga closely.

Hmmm... however, this movie was okay and touched on the highlights of the story. In my opinion, it doesn't cover much of the detail in the manga, let alone the light novels. You really needed prior knowledge from the books to connect some of the scenes.

If you've read the books, then you may find this movie a bit lacking in the character and plot development, since it doesn't go too much into the back story. If you've never read the books, then you'll find this movie entertaining and emotionally moving enough to enjoy.

The casting was okay....I realize that since this was a live action movie and not a drama series, there's only so much time you have to tell the story. So you don't really get too much sense of the acting abilities of everyone. I would've loved to have seen more screen time for everyone to really shine in their roles.

Unrealistic scenes to what could've been a great serial killer movie!

The story actually had potential but the acting and directing of this movie fell short. The female cop, Deputy Wu, as well as the guy helping the illegals, Yu-Sheng, were both impulsive in character and their acting. Would this actually happen in real life? It made the story unbelievable.

It had a nice twist as to who the murderer ended up being at the end, but the movie overall was just okay by then. Props to the young girl cop on her role. As for the main actress, who's suffering from PTSD, because her husband committed suicide, would not be working in the real world, as a police officer in active duty IN the field, no less. Ugh...so much hope only to be disappointed at the outcome.

Story tests the idea of conventional marriage and gender bias in the workplace

Not your typical rom-com...this story tests the idea of conventional marriage and gender bias in the workplace. Are societal norms really the standard we should keep just because they've been around forever? Or, does one challenge them for equality sake?

The story line is slightly different from other rom coms for the most part. Girl wants to move the needle against women gender bias in the work culture, to remove the glass feeling. Girl meets younger guy. Contract marriage. The actors are great. Usually love Xu Kai and Yang Mi in other dramas, but there's something off about the chemistry between these two... especially on her role. Awkward. Xu Kai plays his part well. Actor playing Tao Junhui also great in his role; same with actress playing Li Dai turns out to be better than I have her credit for from the start. Supporting cast is pretty decent...but plot line for MeiMei is annoying on how it shows what a woman is willing to put up with in a useless cheating husband and even eventually encourages the bad behaviors that she loathes.

Update - finally finished this drama and meh...it's just okay. I stuck with it til the end hoping to see it pick up. I felt like the endings just happened with no real storyline to work up to it. I wanted to rate this higher, but I'm being generous already. I would've loved to have seen more of a buildup to Qin Shi and Yang Hua's love story. I didn't feel the passion between the lead couple. However, the story does take you on a journey of consequences, depending on what path you choose in life for relationships. It does make one think about the conventions of marriage and is it really necessary or just society dictating it to be that next step. Who says it has to be? Can one still find happiness amidst all the chaotic relationships around you?

Comedy and bit of romance but weak female lead character

This drama is funny and really enjoyed it. However, it started dragging out the whole storyline of YouXi and Yao Yao relationship getting exposed. Her character just gets weaker. She does nothing to speak up for You Xi or to fight for him. She just clams up and runs away.

Okay, I've already had to endure from ep 14 approximately into ep 21 now, and Yao Yao is horrible at comforting You Xi. She's like a mute just watching his world fall apart.

Finished this drama and have to say, I really enjoyed the male lead plus supporting cast of Maury, Pan Duo, and Qi Chao. The actors playing the parents were good too. As for Yao Yao, the direction of her character in this drama to the end could have been written better. It really dragged out her fear of public speaking far too long into the last episode. Then, when she finally did speak in front of the cameras, it was so uneventful.

I'm curious to see the actors in other dramas. I fault this one to the screenwriter and director.

Better than expected...fun rom-com that is worth watching

This drama is better than expected. It has lots of funny comical moments and the interactions between the two main leads are pretty cute. This plot is nothing new with all its twists and turns, but still fun to watch this drama.

However, it starts to get annoying when the male and female leads still can't seem to communicate at all, and you're more than 25 episodes in. The manipulation of the female colleague, Jiang JingXuan, gets old. One misunderstanding after another and it's just going in circles at this point between the two leads.

Finally finished and it took up to ep 28 to get rid of Jiang JingXuan, the scheming colleague. A few loose ends, like Lu ZiMing, and what happened towards the end with Gu Group. We know that the projects are successful but much is left for the viewer to guess at best. Also, no closing scenes of what punishment, if any, was given to JingXuan, for her betrayal of XingYun the company and to Gu NanZhou.

The female lead, Zhou QingQing, redeems herself, but really I put this on the male lead, Gu Nanzhou. He brought the story back together. Personally, I was a fan of the male lead, played by Chen JingKe. I look forward to his future dramas and acting career.

Story promising but acting frustrating

Where do I begin?

When first staring this drama series, the story seemed interesting and then it's a series of flashbacks for awhile, before it brings you back to present day. Now, I've not read the books nor seen any other versions of this story, but I have to say that the frustration in watching each episode had me take breaks from it. I could only stomach so much. The female lead was so pathetic. I don't know if it was intentional to make her seem so clueless and so helpless. Sure there was chemistry between the leads. I loved the supporting actors even more, especially Lu Jinnian's assistant. There were holes in the story as you kept watching. For all the conniving actions of Jiamu's mom and others in this drama, you kept wanting karma to come back around and bite them. Let them suffer, but no, that's not how the story goes. One thing just keeps happening after another and it just drags on. I am trying not to give away any spoilers here, but I would not go back to rewatch this series. I'd rather look up other dramas with the main male lead and a few of the other actors.

I heard that the main female lead is switched out for Pretty Man 2. I'll most likely watch it to see where the story goes, but if it's just as frustrating, then I'll let it go. Life won't be easy for Jinnian and QiaoQiao. The ending to Pretty Man seemed like an unfinished thought. I can't blame this all on the actors, more so the director of this drama. I hope to see different acting skills when I check out other work from them.
