After the first ten or so episodes I was sure this drama was going to be one of my top favorites. I was really enjoying the characters, especially the lead female Gao Yang. She is a flawed person, which gave her character some depth, but her strenghts like her confidence, knowledge, and ideas were what drew me to her.

I would’ve continued watching the drama if it hadn’t been for the character of Yan Li. He started off okay; rude and cold, but okay overall. But his possessive and way too controlling ways were off-putting to me. He meddled too much with things concerning Gao Yang that he didn’t have any right to. I found myself thinking at multiple occasions: Who does he think he is??

I felt it was meant to be potrayed as cute or adorable like it’s his way to show he cares, but he just came off as a douche and a creep. Gao Yang lost realism to me because I can’t imagine why anyone would be attracted to Yan Li with that kind of personality.

In the beginning I was impressed by the story since it was fun, and felt very modern and encoraged female empowering, but the storyline of Yan Li completely ruined it for me.
