Annara Sumanara

Sound of Magic is a wonderfully woven drama combining fantasy and reality. Its a musical that gives a whole lot of Disney vibes. But the drama is unique and it stands out.

Musical Dramas are hard to come by or its rare. And surely this was one of the most anticipated dramas of 2022. The story is an adaptation of a popular webtoon and the director has done a wonderful job in giving justice to the webtoon.

The drama is just 6 episodes and there is no part which felt out of place. To those who loved watching musicals of Disney, the drama is just beautiful. A tale of redemption, acceptance, magic and the harsh reality. A tale of 3 people stuck in different phases of life waiting for acceptance and hope to move forward. Sometimes we all wish there was some magic that could help us through our hardships, its the element of magic that binds the storyline and all the arcs.

Secondly, i have to mention the cinematography. The frames were so beautiful and blended so well with the fantasy/magic vibe. The VFX is excellent and nothing stands out odd. The sets are well designed and the elements of fantasy is brought out on screen with so much detail.

The music blends really well with the storyline and the musicals between the plot doesnt feel out of place.

The casting for Sound of Magic is nicely done. Choi Song Eun, Ji chang wook and Hwang Inyeop have done a wonderful job in executing their characters. But Choi Song Eun and Ji chang wook have been spectacular. Their expressions and the musical performance have to be appreciated.

The drama ticks all the right boxes and is a very good and enjoyable binge. One could say it has set a high standard for musical fantasy dramas. A 9.5/10

Not worth the time

Let me start by saying this, the initial episodes very so well made and has us intrigued about the whole plot. But from that initial intrigue, nothing adds up or makes sense. The drama was so poorly written and the characters have no life to it much to the dismay of the viewers. The characters had so much scope but there was not one character that was well explored and by the end you are left with no idea about what the characters are. The only thing that was good about the show was the amazing cast and the brilliant OST, other than that it was just an average drama. The ending, well i dont even know what happened. Im guessing even the writers lost the plot. Guess the writers somehow tied it all up together. To be honest here, i had no idea what the hell was happening to the show till the finale and after completing it i am left with more questions than answers.

To those who are planning to watch, its better to find something else. There are whole lot of better written shows out there like Stranger / Designated Survivor.
I stayed for Namgoon min and if not for him I would have dropped it at episode 6.

Disappointment !!!

With the excitement i went into the series, have to say Hellbound was a disappointment. An average watch in many ways.

The series started strong and one would be entrapped with the storyline and the actors have done a good job in their roles. There was mystery, there was a plot and the visuals were really well done. But all this was there till the 3 rd episode following which it took a nosedive and spiralled out totally and lost the plot.

The last 3 episodes was confusing let alone poorly executed. To put it simply, it was unidimensional and flat. It dint make sense or add up and have to say it was bad. If it was done in hope of a second season, then the director dint do his job in the second half to warrant a renewal. In the end, i am left wondering what just happened.

Of all the netflix originals that came out recently, Hellbound would be the weakest of them.

Overall, i would say it would have been better off as a movie. The story started off well only to be ended poorly. The only watching point for this drama would be the acting and that too in the first half.

Best of investigative drama in 2021

Inspector Koo is surprisingly wierd, dark and one of the fine investigative dramas i have watched this year. MDL ratings did put me off from this drama for a while, but boy was i surprised when i started watching it. There is nothing much to complain about the drama as i honestly enjoyed whole way.

Firstly, have to praise the actors. It was perfection. Kim Hye Jun as K caught my eye. She was brilliant and did her role as a quirky dark character excellently. Well, for some reason I wanted her to escape everytime coz i loved her acting in this. Not to mention the other actors, Lee Young Ae aced her role as inspector koo. The chemistry between K and Koo was something i absolutely enjoyed. Everytime they were in the frame, it was just a mix of fantastic acting.

The story was really well written and the fact that it was 12 episodes made it tight. It was fun, dark, quirky and a thriller at the same time. The OSTs blended well with the pace of the drama. The cinematography really catches your eye and the animations in between added a lot of dimensions and quirkiness to the drama.

Inspector Koo is surely a drama which i thought would be average when i started, but stand corrected. It is a really enjoyable watch and one of the top dramas in 2021.
