Quirky, Adorable" Xiao Hua" And That's About It

This drama featured 14 years ago with the forever cute and delightful Rainie Yang as Xiao Hua. She would have been 24 years old then. I do not think there will be any other actress who can showcase Xiao Hua the way she did. Absolutely on point.
Xiao Hua is quirky, have her own strange way of dressing, adorable, transparent and wears her heart on her sleeve. She owns her own jewelry accessory shop and lives with her dad and grandmother.

The whole drama revolves around Jia Si Le (childhood friend) and Tang Men (played by Will Pan) who loves Xiao Hua, and Jiang Mi who is in love with Jia Si Le. A triangle of sorts, and with that comes lots of drama and mis-understanding sending cute Xiao Hua into a frenzy. In her silliness, smarts and honesty (Xiao Hua who has a good heart, strong determination and love for everyone around her), one cannot help but root for her as she tries to sort out all the complication around her.

The storyline, the characters and production are nothing much to shout about. Acting all round were pretty average. I only watched this drama because of Rainie Yang. She did a really good job of bringing so much color to her character. Understanding Mandarin will help immensely, to appreciate the way Xiao Hua expresses herself. I laughed so much. There were many laughable moments, like why she needs to give every object she likes a 'name'?. She gave a hairdryer the name "hu-hu", when asked why, she said, if there is no name, "How can I greet them??" . There were also moments in her character's simplicity and innocence brought tears to my eyes.

In this drama, I was also keen to see talented singer Will Pan and Rainie's chemistry, which was fun to watch. Unfortunately, Will's acting left much to be desired, but enjoyed his pairing with Rainie. The music and theme songs did not disappoint, reminiscing with Rainie's "Take Me Away" (Dai Wo Zou) and Will's "Summer Madness" (Xia Re Feng).

If you like romantic comedy, lots of silly light entertainment, this would be a drama you will like.
