ep 3 spoilers ahead

Li Cheng=Lu Zhen's fiance

Wang Family= the new fiancee's family

Madame Shanyi=a confidant of the empress. she also oversees maids that are selected

1.Li Cheng appears somewhat guilty as he has her seized and brought to her home. He apologizes but explains he has his own issues to handle. (I have a feeling he is going to be a jealous 'I wish I hadn't thrown her away' guy in the future)

2.Lu Zhen gets her first taste of the harsh reality of life (she has been rather protected and sheltered). Her stepmom she learns doesn't just dislike her, she detests her. She destroys her name by insisting that she is illegitimate (she was born a month early)

3.Lu Zhen is tied up, dressed to be a bride, and is sent to the Wang Family. Everyone gossips about how unlucky she is as he has buried 4 wives (!) She manages to escape and has some good luck--she runs into Ah Zhan. He gives her his cloak while she flees, and he stops the pursuers as he is the prince (of course she doesn't know it yet). I guess this is his way of returning a favor.

4.She's hard on luck but she is both resilient and smart. She quickly realizes that she is going to starve if she doesn't do something. She learns that it just so happens (how convenient) that the palace is taking in maids. She can't get in without a fake certificate so she gives a beggar some money to learn who can make one up for her (I somehow wonder if it is that easy...)

5.The man making the certificate tries to rape her. She uses the hair pin her father gave on the night he died to attack him. She thinks she has killed him (she hasn't) but she can't exactly report this. But she gets into the palace and is asked questions (like an interview) and gives a good answer. It seems she is selected. Another girl gives her a nasty look (please don't tell me this is a drama where everyone who is female hates the female lead...). Coincidentally, she is being interviewed by a female minister and Lu Zhen seems to be fascinated/hold her in high regard.

6.Unfortunately, Madame Shangyi discovers her certificate is fake based off of errors in name and the type of paper used. She is unceremoniously tossed out while begging them to hear her out...

7.Ah Zhan is attacked and kills his attackers before passing out. he awakens in a hut, and Lu Zhen is helping him (this makes no sense and seems to be so convenient...) they are 30 miles from the city. she made something out of plants to pull him there, in the process destroying her hands but she acts like it is no big deal (undoubtedly making him like her even more...can i also say that she looks like a kid and he looks way too old for her? but then again, this actress has always had a baby face)

8.The guy who made the certificate and tried to rape her is quite vindictive. He has the police draw up a request that she be arrested and has her listed as a 'whore'/ Meanwhile Ah Zhan's right arm is broken--he says he is now disabled--but so what he will learn to use his left arm! Or kill himself. She lectures him on how dumb he is and insists she has the right to say if he should die because she saved him--he finds this a bit interesting

9.She introduces him as her cousin. Their relationship seems to be developing into that of friends.

10.Soldiers come after them. They flee and the episode ends with a literal cliff hanger--they are standing on the edge of a cliff with no where to go...

-I give it a 7.5 because while the show is very predictable I enjoy the use of these plot devices, I like the female lead, and it is fun to watch. The only thing I don't like is how convenient everything is. It isn't a fantasy so you can't place the blame on fate. It just seems a bit too lucky....

Family Lu: The female leads family/famous for their skill in pottery and procurement of goods (essentially a wealthy merchant family)

1.After Lu Zhen saves the family she is in charge of procurement of goods. This should be noted as important because women are rarely allowed to assume such an open position of power. I imagine she gets some wriggle room not being a noble/royal family member. Also, she is so dang smart.

2.We learn that the Master (father) has arranged a marriage for her to the Shu Family. Lu Zhen doesn't seem to be very interested in it. Here we learn Lu Zhen is something of an adventurous spirit: she wants to travel and continue working; she has unfulfilled dreams; marriage would undoubtedly hinder this. She's also ambitious, wanting to expand the business. But her happy smile leads me to conclude she is still young and naive. She's also confidant, insisting that despite being a woman, her family's business has grown because of her (I get the sense she is a very spoiled, indulged child because the people who love her can't seem to say no)

3.We learn that the stepmom is likely so proud and ambitious because she is from the royal family (thus she views the daughter of a concubine, ML, as an insult). Her daughter, Xu'er, is utterly uninterested in ambition and trusts her sister. Stepmom's brother (ML's uncle) is a slimy little guy and even looks like one, and he encourages stepmom to move faster in removing Lu Zhen before she gains control of the Lu Family.

4.Lu Zhen gets into a tuffle with her sister, who wants a red necklace she has. She refuses, to the point of arguing with her father. She is grounded. Lu Zhen doesn't care. She sneals out in order to continue business. We later learn that the necklace something women wear when they don't want to have anymore children (so Lu Zhen was trying to help her out). Lu Zhen runs into our male lead, Ah Zhan, in disguise. he asks for her to help him to the city because he doesn't have a pass (don't do it! you will get embroiled in his problems!) He sizes her up well and gives her a sword (made by a master crafstman, our female lead has a good eye) as collateral. She sizes him up too and assesses he is not from the area (accent) and must be important to have a sword. But he must be a good person because he holds this sword (OMG she can be dumber than a sack of rocks...)

5.It seems these beads are a big deal. Master Lu tells his younger daughter to keep it from her mother, but younger daughter doesn't. She calls her mother out for being sneaky (I think she believes that she intended to buy the beads to set up Lu Zhen for something indescent) however the mistress it appears may be using the beads as part of a scheme to steal money from the books....

6.Ah Zhan returns. Much to the empress's unhappiness, he is very much alive. Worse, her son embraces him and says they need to work together.

7.The princess feels somewhat disconcerted by his return because he now sees she is the imperial consort. She tells herself he will understand her actions, and that soon he will be emperor (and they will probs be together in her vision) because the emperor has tuberculosis (this is the kind of illness that ruins your whole family; i bet it is a big secret)

8.Recognizing her power hinges on her son who is ill and uncooperative, she insists that the harem be filled up with the hope of getting a grandson (her) as soon as possible. her position is still very weak since everyone still favors Ah Zhan.

9.Step mom murders her husband and sets up Lu Zhen for the crime. It is a very poorly planned plot and it doesn't work. However, Luz Zhen is young and she realizes she needs some help to cement her position. She secretly visits her betrothed who swears to support her since they are family (engaged).

10.Lu Zhen lingers outside and overhears her betrothed: he is defending his choice to support her to his elders, and it seems her fortune is the primary reason why. But here Lu Zhen learns from the elders that her stepmother plans on marrying her off to an old guy and pocketing everything!

I give this episode a 7 because it was pretty predictable but still entertaining. I don't like how 1-dimensional the villains are.

ep 1 spoilers ahead

Having finished Eternal Love I am now watching this. Let me preface this with the following: my reviews are written as I watch the series so if you, the reader, are subject to my emotional outbursts and theorizing about what will happen next, I apologize in advance.

Characters:

Madame Lhou/The Empress: A very ruthless woman. She has just killed her husband so that her son can be the emperor. She has been feigning kindness to Ah Zhan but in actuality hates him because she hates his deceased mother who 'stole the empress position from her' and had a son, making it harder for her own child to be crown prince.

The Emperor: Just killed by the empress.

Empress/Princess Rouran-The previous empress, deceased

Ah Zhan/Prince Changguang: The son of the previous empress, and the one the emperor has been grooming for the throne. He has been leading the country for the past two years and is an expert in military affairs. He is the more legitimate son being the son of the first empress.

Prince Changshan: son of the current empress. He is ill and does not want the throne and believes his mother's plot to be ill advised since the people expect Ah Zhan to be emperor. Also, their state was built on military affairs and he has no military experience. He is the elder brother, but his mother was still a concubine when he was born.

Princes Xiao Huanyan: a princess from a fallen kingdom conquered by the Qi. Not sure if she is a hostage or a concubine. Young, pretty, and smart. Prince Changshan appears to be in love with her and she is his imperial consort (essentially a rank lower than empress) But my guess is she is in love with Ah Zhan. Described as having a temper.

Zhen'er/Lu Zhen: the daughter of a minister loyal to the previous empress. is said to be very cleverly. mother is dead. her stepmom seems jealous of her.

Zhu'er: Lu Zhen's half sister.

1.Our show opens up with the kind of sweeping scene seen in shows like The Virtuous Queen of Han: our leading lady is presumably about to receive the office of Prime Minister, and the narrator explains how she has overcome so much to become a legendary lady. It then goes back to the beginning of it all...

2.The emperor suffers some kind of attack while playing around with his harem girls. My impression of him is someone who likes to have a good time. The Empress arrives and immediately orders that the concubine serving him have her arms cut off (yes, you read right) illustrating immediately giving the audience an impression of a ruthless woman (and probably foreshadowing things to come)...She then prepares to take over the throne and place her son on it. She has her troops summoned, and it seems she is seeking to prevent the more capable son (and I believe our lead) from taking the throne. This comes at a convenient time as he is not in the capital but on his way back from inspecting the North Sea.

3.The empress is ready to crown her son as prince and her husband's body is not even cold. The ministers are divided between their loyalty to the empress and their loyalty to the emperor. Some are protesting her move.

4.The princess soaked the imperial robes in vinegar and left it out in the sun. Thus, when Prince Changshan wore it, it fell apart in front of the ministers, who took it as an omen from the heavens that he should not emperor. It delays his ascension.

5.On his way back, Ah Zhan is attacked (sorry, the boat he was on just fell apart so easily). Believed to be dead (not uncommon//many leaders drowned in rivers back in the day mainly because of their armor being so heavy) and is pronounced dead. Changshan is crowned emperor. As a show of gaining public support he lowers taxes by 3% and releases criminals. But in defiance of his mother he sends people to investigate his brother's death.

6.The empress is smart! She immediately sets up check points all over the capital to protect her son. She says she would rather kill an innocent person than let someone in i.e. Ah Zhan, if he is alive, or a supporter of the previous empress (she doesn't want to risk them leaving to gather an army).

7.Princess Xiao is out for revenge! Believing Ah Zhan dead, she plans to kill the current emperor and one by one destroy Empress Lou's bloodline so they have no descendants (which presumably is one of the worse kinds of revenge in this time period because you don't want your family name to die out). Just like Lou, who is letting her true colors come out (her vindictiveness) the princess has been suppressing her wrath and is ready to unleash it

8.It seems the Empress is pursing, I assume, 9 familial extermination. She is taking out everyone who challenged her son's ascension. The minister who loudly protested and his family are going to be beheaded because the porcelain he prepared is black and not green and considered an insult. Lu Zhen solves the mystery (can I just say she is cute...but looks like a 14 year old kid?). It seems the current mistress's brother was using mud from the river and pocketing the money, and they almost died lol (I won't lie I hate it when they use the stepmom of evil plot device, defending a family that is basically worthless I mean he almost got her killed and she defends him?)

Episode 1 has seen A TON of schemes. This is clearly going to be a palace drama with a lot of back stabbing. Understandably our lead will need to be smart to survive this scramble for power. She will be up against the powerful empress as well as a woman who is probs in love with the lead, and she has little support at home. Odds low for survival? Check. Attractive leads? Check. Ruthless Villains? Check. I am in.

I did not give it 10 because these are tropes we have all seen but at the moment there doesn't seem to be enough subtly or depth to make it unique. I gave it an 8 because I simply enjoy obstacles/ruthless women/fights for power. So that is my personal bias. The acting was only slightly above average. The costumes reflect the time period and make-up is a little over done but it reflects when it came out. (This is 2017 so 4 years ago)

ep 6 spoilers ahead

1.The epic battle that will impact so many lives in the years to come....this is the final battle between the ghost tribe leader Cuang Cuang and Kunlan. There are many tribes who are here to support, with MY representing the celestial tribe and leading it.

2.MY gives Su Yin a spell that seals the bell. He says that only a few people could perform it (mainly himself, Dijun, the celestial emperor) but that Si Yin is so gifted she could perform it.

3.The music for this battle is excellent, and the way it is filmed is very similar to lord of the rings. The director tries to astound us with the sheer number of people fighting, in very sweeping epic shots. Well done. They are up against the ghost tribe and mermaid tribe. The celestial tribe also has people in the air fighting (at first I thought they were birds)

4.Li Jing defies his own people and tries to protect Su Yin. In a very sad scene (I cried a little, not a lot, but a little...)9th dies. 9th of course is Su Yin's best friend. He dies protecting her.

5.At this time the formations that MY carefully designed are broken, surprising everyone. They retreat. It becomes evident that Xuan Nu has betrayed everyone and stolen the formations and given them to the enemy. Su Yin is inconsolable and believes it is all her fault.

6.In a very cool scene, we learn that the only way to defeat them would require an enormous sacrifice. The woman who earlier imprisoned Su Yin volunteers. She is going to her death but it seems she doesn't care. As long as she can help MY (I kind of admire her bravery).

7.The emperor uses a death bell (I can't think of any other way to describe it) that was created by MY and given to him as a means to build trust to attack MY. This bell essentially swallows people up, has hell fire in it, and will expand until it destroys the whole world.

8.After an epic sky battle MY seals the emperor in the bell and closes the bell by sacrificing not only his life but his seal (it fractures into a zillion pieces). This is especially awful because if his soul is fragmented, he cannot reincarnate. it is a fate worse than death. Before going into the bell he whispers 'Wait for me' and looks at Su Yin (presumably he has feelings for her? naughty shifu)

9.Now she loses her master, and Su Yin is holding his body, in tears, while everyone is surrounded her. I would say everyone has lost someone, but no one is more upset than her.

9.The ghost tribe surrenders. Li Jing ruefully discusses his upcoming death, because his brother will kill him, until Si ming shows up with a proposition, one that will ensure Li Jing gets the crown...

ep 8 spoilers ahead

1.This episode begins with YH's auspicious birth. It also introduces us to Si Jin, who is still a little girl.

2.Meanwhile BQ rescues a young woman who was once a snake but after many years she cultivated and took on a human form. She is being brutalized by some guys. She steps in, rescues her, and gives her the cloud fan, telling her to present it to her brother as proof that she sent her home to serve her (China has to censor it but I am fairly certain that the phoenix and 4th brother are more than just friends; sorry they are always together. always).

3.BQ's parents and Phoenix (he is like a third parent) discover her passed out by MY. her mother laments that her daughter suffers so much. BQ is on the edge of death.

4.Li Jing tries to see Su Yin but is turned away (unsurprisingly) by MY disciples. The disciples vow to come together again if they find their master's body. But no use staying since he is dead.

5.The emperor visits Dijun for advice on how to explain the disappearance of MY's body. Dijun suggests that they record it as follows: that Si Yin and MY have gone into seclusion. This tells the viewer that the historical record is never to be trusted because this is not exactly true (nor is it technically a lie).

6.Bq's mother uses half her cultivation to save her daughter's life (I really like how the fox tribe has such good relationships with their kids. the other tribes...it's just awful. The previous ghost king would kill his kids and the celestial court separates parents from their kids...)

7.Meanwhile, baby FJ is born. Later, BQ does everything she can to avoid meeting 2nd prince. While waiting for her, he falls in love with snake girl (BQ's maidservant). 2nd prince decides to bring his new love home...

ep 9 spoilers ahead

1.The 2nd prince returns home and begs his father to grant him permission to marry his new found love, never mind that it means rejecting and offending the fox tribe and causing the celestial family enormous embarrassment. Not only does he refuse, he throws her in the evil sealing pagoda (no one has ever explained the purpose of this thing; it only ever pops up as a tool to punish people. perhaps that is its purpose)

2.The emperor reminds YH that he was made for the world, not a woman (....foreshadowing, anyone?)

3.We learn through a flashback a lot about YH. He was taken from his mother as soon as he could sit, forced to study all day long. When his grandfather granted him a favor, he insisted upon seeing his mother (they hadn't seen one another in years). YH is able to see her after surpassing MY and ascending to be a High immortal at an even younger age. (This communicates that YH is determined to meet ridiculous goals in order to be with the ones he loves.)

(....foreshadowing anyone?)

4.He reassures his mother that he will wear black so blood cannot be seen, and his mother explains that all this does is hide things i.e. the truth and that it will still make her worried (This tells us that YH is willing to lie and not communicate problems to prevent his loved ones from worrying)

(....foreshadowing anyone?)

5.After speaking to snake girl (I think her name is Xio Zhen) 2nd prince again begs his father, who is playing a game with YH. His father humiliates 2nd prince by explaining to YH to never be like him (....foreshadowing anyone?). 2nd prince is willing to die for this love.

6.Meanwhile, the incredibly cute fox FJ is wandering in the woods (it just happens to be the most dangerous woods you could pick to wander through) and runs into the golden lion. Let me take a moment to express that this entire scene essentially defines her character. She winds up in a situation that could have been avoided, tries to be brave and asserts she is someone not to mess with (with no power to back these big words up) and then tries to make a clumsy escape (in her case, she is not paying attention and nearly smashes into a tree). Then DH shows up (yay, their first meeting!). The only thing that changes later in the series is her increasing bad luck and her efforts are directed at protecting DH (which really stands out to me because he is such a powerful deity)

Side note: in the novel, FJ disguises her tails and turns them into 1 when she leaves her den//she does this because she is extremely mesmerizing in her fox form and rare, and people would love to kidnap her. she does not do this in the series, from what I can tell)

7.DH's presence scares off the lion. (I hated this long scene where they stare into each other's eyes and because of this I actually did not think I would like them). Introductions are in order, and there is a joke here that I missed the first time I watched this and would not have known had I not read pillow book. FJ says that he does not look like DH from the pictures she has seen. (The actual character that inspired DH is extremely unattractive and looks kind of like a grandpa beast riding an animal...check out pillow book for that image)

8.DH quickly gets bored with her and just sort of walks off (I really like his expressions. she clearly is enamored of him and he is so flat. they could have been discussing the weather)

9.My comments aside, this is an important scene because it establishes most of their relationship (and conflicts) that follow. She wants to repay his kindness because her aunt told her that there is this thing called causality, and everything has an effect. To not pay someone back would be akin to inviting bad luck (in her case it is just bad luck). Dijun makes it clear he could care less. But she is insistent.

10.She follows him and the actress does a good job at emphasizing the differences between them. Dijun is elegant. He is here for a purpose (to check on the bell). She just happened to be there. But since she has assumed they have a connection now she follows like a kid. FJ learns a few things from Dijun about her Aunt.

11.Dijun tells an earth deity (a cute little old guy) to ring a bell (he gives him said bell) if there is any activity (Dijun is here to investigate some disturbances). I think this is the third time she has run into him, and Dijun coldly explains that he (basically) has not said anything yet but if she keeps following him expect him to be rude (a warning).

12.The ghost tribe princess visits the bell and we learn she is hoping to find her elder brother.

13.Meanwhile 3rd prince is talking to YH about how he lacks affection. He comes up with the plan that YH marry BQ , which would allow 2nd prince to be happy.

ep 24 spoilers ahead

1. Su Jin not only gloats but throws it in Su Su's face that she has a nice new pair of eyes and lies that YH has been by her side. She ends this show with another insult: she is allowing her to stay by YH's side, but she is number 1 and this is an act of charity for her.

2.FJ (in fox form) bites Su Jin. She not only injures FJ but wants her maid to beat it. But DH shows up, And in typical DH fashion he asks questions that put Su Jin in an increasingly uncomfortable position. It soon becomes apparent that the fox is important to DH as he is playing a game of words to implicate/exppose Su Jin's behavior (I think this scene does an excellent job at highlighting the kind of word games DH plays as he is the most skilled debater in the universe) ultimately he chooses to let her go but not before Su Jin begs him for forgiveness. Such is the power of DH! He even reminds Si Jin that he used to lead troops and is impervious to reason (I take it that this is his way of saying don't f**** with my fox)

3.While taking care of the injured FJ DH shares some big truths that didn't make a lot of sense the first time I watched this 1)he knows that the mortal woman is likely undergoing a trial and; 2)with trials, you are alone. No one can help you. The emperor visits and reveals he is feeling less capable, meaning he is ready for YH to be officially named crown prince, the sooner he can retire like DH.

4.YH visits Su Su and shares soon he will be crown prince, then they can wed. He is not seeing the big picture at all. He takes her hand but she snatches it away (afraid of him).

5.We go to Li Jing, who reveals to his elder brother the reason why he won't kill him (that his father gains power if they die). Then we cut to Li Jing and his sister. Yan Zhi is granted permission to leave home. It is presumed forever. Li Jing is clearly sad but let's her go. Now his only hope is his baby. He is increasingly becoming, in my opinion, the most pitiful character in the series.

6.(The music is so good for this scene) YH is conferred the title of crown prince in a very dramatic scene. He has to undergo a trial by fire and lightning (recall that his injury from battle still hasn't healed) and THEN he goes to receive the lightning punishment. He is determined to not let anything stand between him and his marriage, god dammit!

7.Xuan Nu goes into premature labor, and Su Su is upset by the lightning but YH has forbidden anyone from telling her that he is undergoing these for her (a bad idea; it may have given her more trust in him)

ep 14 spoilers ahead

1.We open to an extremely pretty Li Jing lounging in the bath with some harem girls. His sister pops in and admits she has not found anything. Li Jing lies through his teeth and pretends he has no idea where he is and urges her to give up. The princess hopes that the two brothers can overcome their hate because of blood. Li Jing reasons that because the princess and Li Yuan have the same mother, he won't hurt her . He also admits that his sister is the only one he has and orders her to not mention him again.

2.Li Jing recognizes the fan princess is holding and learns of the location of the mortal who gave it to her. Li Jing (rightfully) believes that the woman is the missing A-yin/Si Yin and leaves to find her. He runs into Xuan Nu who expresses her hurt that he ignores her. Li Jing basically ignores her and leaves.

3.The ghost princess observes this and in a poignant scene offers Xuan Nu some comfort and support (I do pity Xuan Nu because in spite of her actions Li Jing is just as responsible and often chooses to ignore her in spite of the fact that he slept with her multiple times)

4.In typical drama fashion, Li Jing is so close to finding A-Yin but he instead encounters YH who uses his authority to not only reclaim the fan (it is a celestial artifact) but to drive off Li Jing.

5.FJ laments that she has been here so long and has never seen Dijun. Siming explains he rarely comes out of his palace. After she speculates that he is treated poorly Si Ming Laughs and calls her funny. He suggests that she mae an arrangement of peach blossoms so Dijun compliments her, and she would have repaid him. They are adorable.

6.Dijun studies the flower arrangement. 3rd prince compliments them (this sounds so rehearsed) and Si Ming explains it is from a new made. The maid is summoned and FJ finally sees Dijun, who isn

t at al surprised to seee her. He stares at her intently, as if tying to figure her out. Chung Yu shows up and implies that Si Ming finds her beautiful. Dijiun not being an idiot asks if they all arrived to act out a play in his palace. He chooses to ignore her and leave; Chung Yu accuses FJ of messing up and being too submissive. 3rd prince is fascinated by this and learns of FJ's new idetntity. He also learns her reason for being here. He autmatically guesses that she is repaying him for saving her life because Dijun does this often without thinking. 4rd prince guesses she is in love and is here for an ulterior motive. FJ insists she is here to repay a kindness. 3rd prince shares that many women try to get close to Dijun with the same excuse. Fj is defensive and it is here that she realizes that she actually likes Dijun because 3rd prince directly question her.

7. 3rd prince asks Si Ming how he met her because she is interesting, especially since she can't understand her own feelings. He shifts the conversation to Cheng Yu for helping her into the palace. Chung Yu admits she can't bear to see someone suffer because of love, and the third prince says as long as Chung Yu is happy, then muses that even with a relationship being over he still has to yield to her.

8.Su Su essentially asks when YH is leaving because she can't afford to take care of him ! YH says he owes her a debt of gratitude for saving him, and she says she doesn't want him to leave and also that she never expected anything for saving him. YH proposes to her! They plan to kneel and get married!

9.Si Jun is about to wed the emperor but there is no festive air. And the emperor does not attend his harem. Si Jun is happy about this because this is just a stepping stone to YH.

10.The daoist priest is crazy and YH and Su Su go wedding shopping. Li Jing sees Su Su and chases after her but misses her.

11. On the day of their wedding Su Su expresses concern/fear about YH not liking her later. She even wonders if he is already engaged to someone. YH makes it clear that his family is complicated (understatement, if there ever was one) but promises that he will never betray her (uh-huh). They bow their heads and marry. As they nervously sit on the marriage bed, she tells him that she has a clear distinction between love and hate (I think this means that she has black-and-white thinking?) and if he betrays her those oaths are null and void (go Su Su! zero tolerance for cheaters!) they then have a very sweet wedding night where they consummate the marriage (I especially like the scene because it is not just romantic but she isn't a blushing bride.) (curse you censorship!)

_

I give this episode a 10 because it held my attention throughout.

ep 12 spoilers ahead

Oh man watching this episode again...it drags so much in the beginning but about 1/4 through it picks up. I blame YH, who lacks the eccentricity of DH and remains so darn stoic. I also blame DH and FJ, for stealing the show. At this point in the series I always thought everyone was more interesting than Ye Hua however he becomes more interesting with time because he falls in love with BQ. So without BQ, he would be pretty boring, I think.

1.Essentially a woman in the market intervenes and stands up for BQ. You can recognize her as the princess of the ghost tribe who fell for Su Yin. BQ trades the fan to her (because she can't use it) out of thanks. The princess promises to give her a favor in return.

2.YH meets with second prince and his cousin wrongly interprets his behavior as anger that Su Jin has become the consort of the celestial emperor.

3. (best scene of the episode) BQ sleeps with the snake under her new quilt (a beautiful red blanket she traded the fan for) Apparently BQ is a very practical mortal. YH as a snake thinks on how scandalous this is. Once she is asleep he takes his human form and watches her sleep. Clearly he is falling in love.

4.FJ tries to find something to give DH to repay his kindness but has nothing. She asks for Mi Gu to cover for her and says she will be gone for a few years. Before she goes she entrusts the spell her aunt left her with Mi Gu. She is going to sneak into the palace and serve DH to repay his kindness.

5.BQ's parents and phoenix wonder about where she is. Mi gu gives them the scroll that FJ gave him, and phoenix is shocked because he immediately understands what the scroll means. They were wondering where BQ is, but this seems to imply that BQ went to seal the emperor. It all makes sense now. Her mother panics and wonders if she is dead because to re seal him is to risk death. Her mother wonders why her daughter keeps abandoning her family. Her mother reveals she divined BQ's fate and that her daughter is supposed to be undergoing a heavenly trial at this time to ascend to high god.

6.The consensus is that BQis not dead because a)she has half of her mother's cultivation and b)when a god dies a celestial phenomenon occurs. They would know if she died. But isn't she supposed to be marrying Ye Hua? I guess they delay the wedding...

7.FJ is sitting outside of Taichen palace like a lost puppy, acting like a restless kid as she tries to think about what to do. She looks quite forlorn. A passing goddess (her clothing is to imply she is a man but she looks like a woman). FJ recognizes she is a man and explains that she knows because her aunt used to dress like a man (I think this means that gods are so pretty that without clothing it can be difficult to distinguish genders).

8.FJ introduces herself and explains that she is here to repay a kindness (I think the goddess assumes she is in love with DH). FJ promises to tell her how she met DH if she agrees to help her get inside of Taichen palace. She says that FK is lucky to have come across a deity that is not normal and introduces herself as Chung Ye.

9.Chung Ye (who is extremely interesting in pillow book, despite her few appearances) wonders how FJ will repay DH, who has everything. FJ's extremely simple answer is to stay beside his side day and night (of course this will lead to a love story!). FJ's only option, being someone who is essentially powerless and useless, is to become a servant. FJ readily agrees to her suggestion to be a maid.

10.Si Ming is shocked and tries to figure out what FJ is doing here after seeing the little fox princess dressed as a maid at Taichen. He seems surprised at her outrageous behavior. He shares some sage advice: that Dijun is extremely disagreeable and strict and will throw her out. FJ giggles and says he is interesting. Si Ming remarks that FJ is the interesting one (a true statement, if there ever was one). He remarks that she knows how to pick them when she reveals Lady Chung Yu helped her because Chung Yu is very special--she was a human who cultivated to be a goddess (this makes even more sense in the novel because Chung Yu is shown to have a great love of games and gossip). Given FJ's inability to avoid outrageous situatioins and behavior it stands to reason that she would attract the support of Chung Yu who will be able to indulge in her love of mischief and gossip.

11.Ye Hua's cousin, Zhi Yue picks FJ out of a line of maids and is annoyed at how pretty she is. It seems she has feelings for DH too. She isn't very nice to her. Me thinks I can see a rocky road for FJ.

12.The maids believe that FJ is another maid who is in love with DH and will be sent to the lower realms after disgracing herself. FJ now must be careful. Every time she has a chance at seeing DH she seems to be intercepted by Zhi Yue whose personality seems to be just as outrageous (but more petty and stuck up) as FJ's. I think they deliberately dressed Zhi Yue in a way that makes her seem even more immature because she has ribbons in her hair (like a child).

13.FJ receives a lesson in humility as she is forced to obey the princess and then be subjected to a bit of bullying by the maids. FJ clearly does not want to listen to the princess, who is ranked below her, but she is extremely loyal to her clan and her inner monologue reviews that she obeys because of what she was taught (in the future many of her choices will be influenced by her upbringing, which was largely determined by her aunt who raised her). But she clearly is not happy with obeying (she cannot hide her feelings the way BQ and YH can)

14.Chung Yu finds FJ pouting in bed. She explains how Zhi Yue has been making things difficult. FJ uses her smarts and learns that Chung Yu was once with the third prince. She explains that the fox clan believes in soulmates and that her aunt has all the challenges in love because she has such a beautiful face. This Chung Yu takes as a compliment to herself. FJ's tail pops out while she clearly is satisfied with herself for her clever idea (this girl is one in a millioin. i don't mean that in a good way. more like her behavior is something only she can do)

-Note: in the novels, it is explained that Zhi Yue (I apologize for the spelling) is actually a foster sister of Dijun and her name is Zhi'e (or soomething like that). A rain goddess/water goddess. Apparently when Dijun was born her parents adopted him, as he had no parents. A long, long time later they gave birth to Zhi, and so she is his foster sister. As a result, Dijun gives her special treatment. FJ mistakes it for love but for Dijun, it is just him fulfilling his duty to her parents.

I gave this episode an 8.5 because of the extremely boring beginning. It picks up later.

ep 11 spoilers ahead

1.We open to Dijun who discovers Fengjiu sleeping in the cellar of Kunlan mountain. I am not sure if the bell rang or if he is just good at finding things. Probably the latter. Anyways he uses his magic to wake her up.

2.Fengjiu (unsurprisingly) wakes up the way one might expect a kid to wake up. She doesn't seem at all uncomfortable to see Dijun (everyone usually is) but surprised. She asks if the bell rang, he instead holds up the scroll BQ left and asks her several questions.

3.FJ (I think showing how simple she is) explains she followed her aunt (women are usually taught to be more virtuous; I am not sure if it is because of her character or if it is because she is a fox, but she talks to him like he is a normal person, not like he is the former god emperor) and while she isn't sure how much time passed, she remembers that it was a magical document. DH stares at her intently before saying it is a document concealing a powerful spell. He asks if her aunt is related to Kunlan Mountain, because why would she come here and how come she came by such an important spell for sealing the bell?

4.FJ does not make eye contact and is a bad liar--she clearly knows something--but refuses to tell him the truth and lies. She is a good niece and very loyal to her aunt (in the novel they are described as best friends, essentially)

5.She continues to follow DH until he finally asks her if she is going to keep following him She explains like she is delivering a carefully thought out formal speech--basically Phoenix god taught her that you must repay a debt, and that since he has saved her life she thought carefully about it and will be proactive (exact quote) and and pay him back. I assume she is trying to address DH in a way that appeals to his sense of reason. Somehow I think she fails.

6.In the novels DH is described as being the kind of person who takes a strange delight in tormenting others because he is bored i.e. pushing someone until they cry. It is not surprising then that his behavior is written to make her uncomfortable. He takes a step closer, invading her personal space, and asks innocently, 'how do you intend to repay me?' she answers she does not know.

7.Li Jing walks by and interrupts the scene. DH remarks that Kunlan mountain has never been this active. Li Jing bows and remarks that Kunlan is not as grand as it once was. DH kind of appears amused before walking by him (this scene is especially cute because FJ hides behind him and pokes her head from behind him) and literally scuttles (i don't know how else to describe her walk, because DH moves so gracefully and yet she kind of...scampers) after him.

8.Si Ming is at the entrance of Kunlan and DH casually tosses the scroll to him before staring off to the horizon like a statue while FJ hides behind a pillar and eavesdrops. DH explains that he has just learned that every 70000 years the bell must be re sealed. FJ eventually comes from her hiding place and gets permission from DH to introduce herself. She happily introduces herself and she and Si Ming seem to strike it off very well. Si Ming immediately warms up to her and they start to gossip like two kids.

9. I personally think this might be the earliest sign of DH showing some interest (not romantic, more like awareness) in Fj because he seems a tad irritated, but I could just be reading to much into it. DH is extremely cold. He orders them to follow him. Since he did not specify who, it is assumed that FJ follow him as well. During this walk, (and this is so adorable) FJ happily gossips with Si Ming, again her character deliberately moves/talks like a kid, probably the directors way of emphasizing her youth (despite her appearance she is essentially supposed to be a 'cub' or a child in the novels at this point. i interpret her as being a teen) while DH walks much farther ahead at a brisk pace (maybe he wants to escape these two idiots). She learns that the snake spirit is at the palace, and that her aunt is now marrying the crown prince because of the second prince falling in love with her aunt's maid. She puts on bambi eyes to manipulate Si Ming to sneak her into the court (I love her shameless manipulation of her looks) to confront snake spirit.

10.FJ pulls a sword on the snake girl, who is already quite injured. Before she can do anything DH intervenes and chastises her for insulting the sea king (2nd prince was demoted) and then proceeds to ask snake girl some questions. She is loyal, and does not reveal any information. DH watches FJ closely who again refuses to make eye contact. Her shady behavior all but confirms his thoughts that Bq is connected to Kunlan.

11. We now look at BQ who attracts the interest of the golden lion (Cuang Cuang's fearsome mount who spits hell fire). The golden lion has essentially been terrorizing the mountain (Junji?) and no one goes into these woods. Recall this is the same wood where FJ strayed in and was rescued by DH. the golden lion is very powerful, and he runs from DH because he is too strong but the golden lion is strong enough to battle Ye Hua, who is also very strong. He is going to kill her but instead is drawn into battle with Ye Hua. Ye Hua shows his form to humans because the golden lion is destroying a market (he is not supposed to show his form). After destroying a village market, he is believed to have killed the lion (Ye Hua's monster form is that of a black dragon) (much sexier than DH, whose form, I believe, is a rock, according to the novels)

12.FJ tries to follow DH into Taichen Palace, but is stopped by guards. Based on her internal monologue her next plan is to break into Taichen palace.

13.BQ rescues an injured Ye Hua who has taken the form of a snake. He recognizes her back as Su Yin but is confused because she is a woman. He sees she has the artifact, the fan (something that will create a number of conflicts in the future) and is confused because she is a mortal.

14.Another important conflict surfaces: the celestial king is no longer receiving the respect of the other tribes who do not attend court. He is trying to figure out how to regain their respect. His two sons have no plan to help the king, but Su Jin (who is quite smart; you have to be in order to be a villain in these shows) has a plan. She wants to be the emperor's side consort because she can stir up respect as her family died for the celestial tribe. When I first saw this I thought she was being loyal and using it as an opportunity to serve her own needs. In retrospect, she was probably just being opportunistic. She appears to succeed.

15.Ye Hua continues to allow BQ to 'help him' but it is apparent that she is not helpful at all, using useless medicine on him and forcing him to eat raw meat. She kisses him and he is shocked, and eats the meat to avoid being kissed again (how cute! how rare for a male lead to be so chaste!) BQ is adorable as she talks to the snake as if he were people.

16. BQ goes to market and is about to take cover because it is going to rain. In a hilarious scene we see the rain goddess, who at that very moment is lamenting how she has never met the crown prince. Ye Hua appears and tells her not to work today. BQ gets to market and encounters an extremely corrupt priest who recognizes her fan as something precious and insists that she stole it from him. Him being a priest and well known, her being a stranger, and a woman, well, naturally everyone sides with this jerk.

Side Note

-Following the Su Yin arc, I like the Su Su arc (Su Su is the name Ye Hua eventually gives BQ, I apologize for that spoiler) the best because of BQ's vulnerability, and because she endures some truly painful trials. However I think the arc AFTER Su Su is her best acting because that kind of character is much more subtle, and she nails it--I hope I am fairly summarizing this because I prefer the DH/FJ storyline the most, as is evident by my summaries.

I gave this episode a 9.5 because I think a 10 would mean I am glued to the screen, never looking away.

ep 10 spoilers ahead

The majority of this episode is divided between Ye Hua and BQ, with subplots including Xuan Nu, the second prince, and Fengjiu.

1.Ye Hua continues to obediently follow the orders of the celestial emperor. He continues to show little, if no, emotion and projects the image of someone who is cold and severe. Su Jing greatly desires to become his side concubine but is unfortunately met with resistance by Ye Hua who has no interest in her and appears to deeply dislike her (I am not sure if he genuinely dislikes her or if he is merely doing this so she leaves him be. If he does genuinely dislike her that is a bit cold considering they grew up together)

2.Second Prince and his new love interest, the snake that BQ rescued, are bravely prepared for the rocky road ahead. Second prince deserves a great deal of respect in that he is not only rejecting the future his father has laid out for him, but by choosing to follow his heart he is breaking his father's heart.

3.Si Jin is clearly told by her adopted mother that while she cares for her like a daughter, Ye Hua is the crown prince and with that comes certain obligations. She lacks power--i.e., people respect what her parents did but she can't bring anything to such a marriage and so Ye Hua will marry someone who can increase the celestial tribe's power.

4.Fenjiu gets into a great deal of mischief and cleverly visits the earth deity (he looks like father time) on the beach. Because he saw her travelling in the company of Dong Hua, he readily accepts her pack of lies that Dong Hua sent her to replace the bell with a jade flute she is carrying. Fengjiu looks especially guilty and anyone who is familiar with her mannerisms would know she looks that way when she is about to cause trouble and is especially pleased with herself for coming up with such a great idea (a lovable airhead because most people would see through these lies because of her body language; she is easy to read). I admire her impulsive (because her behavior could potentially arouse the anger of the most powerful god in existence, DH) and impetuous (who else would do something like this?) behavior.

5.Meanwhile BQ is preparing to re-seal Cuang Cuang (previous ghost king). She gets what many of us in the Americas would call 'shit faced', drinking a ton of wine in the cellars of Kunlan and recalling her memories of Mo Yuan and how he has saved her many times. I think this is to imply she owes him to the point that she can probably never really pay him back, but the least she can do is re-seal Cuang Cuang.

6.Fengjiu arrives, and BQ turns her into a fox (this is also BQ's birthday by the way) for following her and also to punish her. She recognizes the bell as belonging to Dong Hua and because she knows her niece best, she knows she has caused some kind of trouble. But she has a job to do so she lays a scroll on the table and tells her to pass it on to someone trusted in case she should not return tonight, then she places a spell on her that makes her sleep for 3 days.

7.BQ seals Cuang Cuang into the bell but he is extremely powerful, and after sealing the bell BQ is weakened greatly (who knows how much cultivation this cost). Cuang Cuang places a powerful curse on her: she will be sent to the mortal realm, where her memories and powers will be sealed, and here she will live out the hardships of a human life.

8.Perhaps because the bell destabilizes thing it sends out unstable energy and so the weather changes and it seems like something bad will happen. Dong Hua leaves his home to address this, but when he arrives, the bell has been sealed. he learns from the earth deity about FJ's mischief (it is kind of funny that he accepts the flute without even turning to look at the deity, again reaffirming that he really does not pay attention to people) and smiles slightly, because he knows immediately who has caused mischief.

9. BQ awakens in the mortal realm, conveniently near an abandoned hut (this ONLY happens in a soap opera) and she has no memories (this is the second case of amnesia in the show. the first is Ye Hua, who was sealed in the lotus, being unable to recall Su Yin) . She sees her face for the first time when she looks in an old mirror, so she doesn't even know what she looks like! Cuang Cuang is a very powerful being (I think he is a ghoul in the novel, but I might be wrong. i still need to read the novel)

---I did not do summaries for these earlier episodes. But because this is my second time watching Eternal Love I hope these summaries are more coherent. I will clean up my other summaries. I think it is a testament to the clever writing of the show and good acting that my feelings are still stirred up when watching it--

I gave this episode a 9 because there were times, even when I first watched the show, that I did not pay attention because it dragged a little. That is the weird thing about this show. It drags for maybe a minute here, five minutes there.

ep 54 spoilers ahead

.1. We open to a very drunk BQ (it takes a lot for that to happen) stumbling around with FJ to catch her. She sounds convinced that YH does not love her but Su Su.

2.BQ destroys the soul lamp. She pricks her finger on it. A weird light enters her. And now she has all of her memories back! Si Jin better hide. Because now she knows that she is Su Su. And that A-Li is hers.

3.BQ decides to get revenge BQ style (I find this one of her best points) and she is literally an eye for an eye. FJ chases after her to be her support. Because BQ is basically attacking the 9 heavens.

4. They won't let FJ in because they don't believe she is the empress bc BQ introduced herself as the empress

5. BQ shows up to confroont Si Jin!! Yeah! Su Jin, ignorant of what BQ knows, continues to play her games. She says I am here to attend to you and accuses her of using her eyes for 300 years. Si Jin knows she knows the truth.

6.Su Jin is in tears now, realizing her plans are collapsing. She collapses, refusing to believe it. BQ gives her the choice to dig them out herself or have BQ do it. Si Jin seems to have lost it. This is an EXCELLENT example of retribution. She takes them back.

7.Si Ming helps FJ in and she whispers the truth, that her aunt has showed up to take out Su Jin. FJ runs off to help while Si Jin runs for the emperor, telling all the guards to hold up justice. However FJ stops her. Fj confronts her but she continues to spin her lies.

8. Before she can run off DH stops FJ and orders her to follow him.

9.BQ is at the terrace Su Su jumped from; her inner monologue reveals that it feels like (her Su Su life) happened just yesterday and she wonders if YH knows how much she has suffered. She then retuns to the peach blossom field with her real eyes. (i find it hysterical that even the phoenix seems baffled that she could regain her memories since that should have been impossible. little does he know ANYTHING is possible in a chinese drama)

10. We randomly go to YH who is dying (?? what??) at a very young age. Su Su is at his side (fake Su Su). He explains that he has been waiting for one person his whole life.

11. Su Jin collapses at the celestial emperors feet and begs for justice.

12.DH seems to be looking only at FJ as she gives her well-acted and emotional story. Props to her. but she is in a burning house. FJ intervenes and defends her and says BQ left to help the celestial tribe save face. She calls them out for everything, including what they did to her aunt. DH seems to side with the emperor, leading FJ to ask him if he is going to help her. DH agrees to be the judge in order to keep everyone out of it. The celestial emperor's inner monologue basically says he can't help Si Jin anymore since the matter involves DH.

13. Si Jin is in trouble because unlike the emperor, DH has no attachment to her. It ends with DH beginning to question her.

--I Like that FJ can focus on taking care of her aunt instead of DH. Her aunt is after all her favorite friend and relative.--

ep 53 spoilers ahead

1.We open to DH holding FJ who (because she has having a fever) is seeing him is as the emperor from the mortal realm briefly but remarks he looks better as an immortal. She thinks she is dreaming. DH promises to walk home in the rain with her. She asks him to reciprocate his feelings for her. After she passes out he kisses her forehead.

2.DH requests that BQ and kin not tell FJ that he visited before leaving.

3.BQ is curled up next to FJ (it is a pretty scene actually) and then she wakes up. BQ is unable to lecture FJ for her actions however she asks her to be more careful. FJ says cutting off a tail is like experiencing death. She says she learned something, and her Aunt asks if she has suddenly fallen out of love. FJ says she won't give up and 'will find a way'. Her persistence is admirable. I would be interested to see how the creators do her story in a sequel.

-We can all confirm a fact that DH has feelings for her. Otherwise I doubt he would have kissed her or even shown up to check on her--I imagine he is feeling a lot of things because of her--I say this because some people thing he doesn't care for her. I don't think anyone but FJ could stir his interest in such a way.

4. Si Jin succeeds in creating a fake BQ with the goal of sending her to the mortal world. Her plan? She says her and BQ share the same weakness of being in love with YH. Her plan is to manipulate BQ into thinking that the mortal is Su Su, breaking up their relationship from the inside. In theory it is a good plan because Si Jin recognizes her lack of power in facing someone like BQ. This is her best tactic. But a risky gamble because she is directly interfering with the celestial emperor's edict and the relationship of the crown prince. But Si Jin i think is the type who has to play big or go home, and so far it has served her well. But YH once warned her to be careful because her luck would one day run out. I think that Si Jin's days are numbered (the fact that the series is almost over also implies that).

5.Down in the mortal realm YH encounters the fake Su Su and immediately recognizes that it is not 'her'. I guess this is what you call soul mates? He gives fake su su money and then invites her to his house after she buries her father. In these days, the only reason a guy does something like that is to take on a concubine. I imagine he will give her a job as a maid though because YH is morally superior even as a human. (DH would never do that. He is not morally superior. Read the pillow book for proof).

6. Meanwhile, BQ is hanging out with 16th. She playfully hits him but he can't dodge it and he coughs up blood. I imagine he is weak because he made the medicine for the ghost princess. Never a fool, she immediately guesses it is related to his 'brief romance' with a mystery lady. 16th plans to go the sea of innocence (per his promise) as MoYuan is going into mediation and the other disciples are returning to their old posts.

--Maybe a sequel will involve 16th and DH?--

7. 16th leaves and makes it clear nothing will get him from his post unless BQ's life is in danger. The soul gathering lamp is given to BQ

8.BQ journeys to find mortal YH. It seems Su Su is his close servant, and will even drink tea with hime (oh oh). He seems ill because he coughs a lot. I personally think that BQ is far too rational to fall for these games. She doesn't appear upset when watching him. Then Si Jun shows up to personally admit that it is a figurine (I don't know why she did this, maybe to imply that YH loves her because she looks like Su Su--I truly think that Su Jin is playing too big of a gamble here. It would be very easy for this plan to unravel. She is getting sloppy)(also I think Si Jin is deeply wrong in her understanding of BQ's character. She is expecting her to act like how must women would act in love. This kind of trick would work on someone who isn't exactly the smartest i.e. FJ not BQ)

9. BQ indeed begins to wonder if YH likes her because she resembles Su Su. It does seem to bother her deeply but I think she will bounce back quickly.

--This episode felt a little slow

ep 51 spoilers

1. Bai Quian chooses to descend to the mortal realm where she sees a very young (7 year old?) Ye Hua at school. Even here he is a prodigy but he is mocked by his classmates for having only one arm. Ye Hua, in his typical way, does not react to their taunts. That night (and this is amusing) Bai Quian visits him and tells this little boy that she wanted to see her future husband. Naturally the kid is baffled. She explains she is a goddess and where she is from and makes sure to get an admission from him that she is beautiful. The following morning mortal Ye Hua is pouring through books trying to find the location of her home. She gave him the beaded necklace that Ye Hua once gave her in the heavenly realm, so the kid knows it was real and not some weird dream.

2. In a very lovely scene, (but very sad) we see Fenjiu sitting on the steps of Kunlan in the snow. She is crying (only in a drama could a woman look so pretty when upset/I would look like a squished tomato if I were crying) Her aunt immediately comes to hold her and learns that not only has Dong Hua rejected her again but she has shamed her family. She asks her if she could ever give up on Ye Hua, and Bai Quian feels guilty for telling her to give up on him so readily, essentially seeing how deep her niece's feelings are for Dijun.

3.After a dinner party with Moyuan and phoenix her aunt explains that because she is marrying into the royal family Fengjiu should prepare to be Queen of the fox realm. Instead of being elated Fengjiu views it as a death sentence--she asks her how she could keep her trapped in the fox realm, effectively ruining any chance (if any exists) to be with Dong Hua. Her aunt tells her to forget about him (poor BQ she clearly does not want to hurt her niece any more but she has no choice; this isn't YH this is DH, someone who is arguably even more unobtainable. I do think that BQ is being slightly patronizing to her niece but she must also know that her words are falling on deaf ears).

4.FJ calls her out and tearfully asks her how she could do this if she just admitted she couldn't give up on YH. FJ runs away and runs into Li Jing, who is standing outside the cave where he and A-yin spent time, as if expecting her to emerge. He sees FJ and tells her crying ill becomes her. FJ calls him a boring man and cries some more but doesn't leave him. They stand there together, both reflecting on their lives and choices, I believe, because Li Jing sadly explains he can see his entire life and it is boring, implying he has done nothing significant and has been useless. (I find this to be so sad because his efforts helped ensure peace; he took the higher road even if it meant he lost face among his own people; he remained with Xua Nu even though his feelings for her were at best lukewarm--he is perhaps one of the most loyal people in the series and this may be because the one time he was not loyal had such sad consequences)

5.Li Jing returns home and essentially gives his will to his sister: he gets on his knees (this was an extremely heart wrenching scene) and begs her to take care of his son, and explains to her that very soon she will be the last remaining royal family member. He tells her that he entrusts the ghost realm to her. Before his sister can stop him he renders her unconscious and tells his mount to remain behind and care for her. The kid begs him to let him go with him but he explains that because he is the luckiest creature in the magical world then he should stay behind and help protect his sister.

6.Moyuan (I need to read the novel because it is essentially explained that the novelist will have him in his own story involving an ancient demon goddess, which would make his feelings for BQ kind of unexplained) thinks on some flashbacks between him and Su Yin, and his feelings are rather ambiguous--it isn't clear if he loves her as a woman or merely as a student. Even as his fave student it would be understandable if he still was sad she would be leaving him; maybe I am misreading the relationship between them? His deepest concern is her happiness, it seems, as he asks if YH treats her well.

--This was an excellent episode, in my opinion, as we were able to see how others are dealing with events as the series reaches its climax. Moyuan is choosing to respect BQ's choice and wants her happy; FJ has said she has given up on Dong Hua (as in chasing him, but truly she loves him still) but is struggling with her painful unrequited love (and extremely sad rejection; on the one hand I hate it but on the other hand there is something to be said for cruelly pushing someone way helping with the break-up; maybe he hopes that she will hate him?) in addition to the daunting task of becoming her clan's queen, something she does not want or feel ready for; LJ is firm as he faces death. We only need to know how some of the other big players feel: DH, Si Jin, third prince, etc. feel.

ep 50 spoilers ahead--more Dong Hua!

**hard to believe there are only 8 left**

1. We open to Fenjiu in Dijun's arms. He reassures her that she is not his calamity because he is fine. She continues to hug him and says she won't leave him and will stay with him. I adore his reactions, because his expressions change from pain to embarrassment to flat again. Unfortunately her father arrives (perhaps triggering his reversion to the flat expression) She hides behind Dijun but he leaves her alone with her father (who will probably kill her) after shaking off his robes almost like she has wrinkled them. Also let it be known I thought he was lying when he said her father was there.

2.She insists on remaining and admits she can't let him go. (I just want to give her a hug!)

3.Scene changes and they are back on Kunlan. All the disciples still living are present. it should be noted that Bai Quian has a uniquely different outfit on--it's gold-ish. She almost always wears light blues. Perhaps it is to make Mo Yuan the focal point since he wears blue.

4.I really respect Mo Yuan who doesn't even act like he ever left. It's just another day for him. Meanwhile he's been collecting soul shards for 70000 years. He's remarkably at ease.

5. Everyone is shocked to learn Si Yin is a woman. They listen as she explains and apologizes for how she stole Mo Yuan's body. Everyone seems happy to see her but think she is lying about being a girl.

6. Ye Hua is one in the mortal realm and phoenix explains to Mo Yuan what happened following his death. He focuses on Si Yin's actions.

7.Back to Dong Hua who goes to bed immediately upon arriving and guess who shows up. She explains that since her chastity is gone her father beat her (she has blood). He touches her chin and says they look fake. He instructs her to act better. She apologizes for lying about the wounds. Apparently Cheng Yu got her to do this. (this scene was awesome if only because Fengjiu is the only person who would sneak into his bed)

8. He puts on his cloak protectively, as if he it is a shield. He reminds her to stop while she is ahead. She thinks it is related to his calamity that he is avoiding her but refuses to tell him who. He tries to use age as a shield, and to tell her he has killed a ton of people, as if to convince her that she is both dumb for lack of experience and for loving someone so violent. He angrily says he is deprived of all emotion and that this all child's play, and she should basically f**** off.

9.Our scene changes to her back with Cheng Ye, who is surprised so little scared her off. Apparently Dong Hua is old as time, and was leading wars when the current heavenly lord wasn't even alive. Star lord guarantees that Dong hua is not going to meet his calamity any time soon.

10. I have so much feels for Fengjiu who is trying to figure out what the heck to do--she's like a baby in a room of extremely smart adults. I admire her romantic spirit.

11.Chance scene back to Dong Hua, posing as he reads. Fengjiu's father enters and begs an audience. He grants it as it is about Fengjiu. He asks him to realize her dream by marrying her since they were married in the mortal realm. He recognizes her devotion and believes it is the best choice. However dong hua coldly replies that they are not meant to be together (I def. think this has a deeper meaning).(Her father has the cutest mustache and must really care about her to petition someone like Dong Hua)

12.Dong Hua calls Fengjiu who seems afraid of more harsh words. He again tells her that she means nothing to him, they have no future, that she was part of a trial, rejects her feelings, says there is no you or me, and she reminds him of all of his promises. She actually makes him angry and he yells at her. she kisses him!!!!

13. Dong Hua does not react and remains absolutely frozen. I think he is trying too hard to appear indifferent. She asks him why he is cruel, he says he treats everyone the same and she tries to understand but he changes the subject to her father. She says this is all her fault and seems ashamed because her father begged when he never begs, and she runs away, but is clearly in love.

14. Dong Hua is extremely stoic and I personally think has a lot of feels inside (I mean she aroused his anger which says something). I think it is so nice her father did not blame her, that instead they leave together. He doesn't even seem to care that she is no longer chaste; but the fox tribe is a bit more advanced than the other tribes.

15.Dong Hua is playing a game alone, as if to emphasize how lonely he is, I think, staring emptily at the pieces. Star lord is afraid to speak to him it seems (I don't blame him. Dong Hua has shown a lot of emotion, mainly anger). Dong Hua is in a foul mood. Si ming expresses empathy for Fengju. Dong Hua seems to be stuck on the fact that her name is not next to his, i.e. on the rock of three incarnations, then it is impossible (basically they have no fate so they can't do anything about it). it seems he has thoroughly analyzed and explored the possibility of being with her and this rock has left him to conclude that he ought not to have anything to do with her. Looking back he kept repeating everything that he was--or rather was perceived to be--to Fengjiu as if he was trying to convince himself of his own logic. However LOVE KNOWS NO RULES and I doubt even fate or some random rock can predict something like love. Why else would this series be chock full of people loving the wrong people?

*In this scene we get a real idea of how old Dong Hua is. He's been referred to as the 'prehistoric god' which I imagine equates to something like primordial for us westerners (primordial being used to describe Greek Deities that are super old/foundational gods). I thought he passed on the crown to the current heavenly lord but here they say there was a heavenly lord before the current one who received the crown. Which again begs the question: how come he has aged so well? He looks like he could only be (at most) a decade older than Fenjiu (and that's stretching it) he's like a zillion years old.

...to all the fans of BQ/YH I have to apologize for over analyzing everything related to this couple they really have captured my interest...

think Dong Hua has thrown the towel in without a fight BECAUSE her name isn't next to his. I call that cowardly. He's Dong Hua! What should he be afraid of? I think he's afraid of being hurt. After all didn't his trial end abruptly because of the pain of love? Yup, i think he is afraid of her leaving him so he is pushing her away. But can Dong Hua handle seeing her marry someone else? Doubtful.

16.Li Jing learns more of his soldiers are planning to collude with the former king. Some believe that he can restore the glory of the ghost tribe but others who remain loyal to Li Jing know that he will destroy the world for his revenge.

17. Phoenix and fourth brother tease Bai Quian for being slow witted in matters of love--perhaps alluding to the fact that Mo Yuan has feelings for her but she doesn't see it.
