this is just bad.
firstly, the story doesn't flow. there is no transition from one scene to another, the characters are just thrown from one scene into the next, making it real hard to follow what's happening. random black and white flashbacks which make no sense. the lack of explanation doesn't help either. random events just get thrown in very jarringly. some scenes are also extended needlessly. like those supposedly showing how demented or evil some characters are. i got it within the first 5 seconds, there is no need to keep showing them being crazy for another 20 seconds.
secondly, there's also little to no character growth so we're stuck with stupid choices and immature actions even when the plot has advanced quite a bit, which defeats the purpose of the story no? as you train and overcome obstacles you get stronger both physically and mentally. but no, the characters here just keep running around or feeling sorry for themselves. especially the main character. i have no idea what was the intention for the main character. is he supposed to rely on his wit? or is he supposed to learn some martial arts and become stronger? the show seems to lean towards the former at the start, showing him being weak in his martial arts and relying on his wit to get by. the show then just decides to ignore all of that and lean towards the latter instead. but that also isn't portrayed well, seeing how he just keeps failing at whatever he is supposed to do (which is protecting his family and whatnot). add the fact that the main character supposedly becomes stronger through shortcuts everywhere, i wonder what's the point. for a wuxia there are no lessons to be learnt, no morals to be had.
on the plus side, the acting and visuals are pretty decent though. cgi is on point, the actors also do well considering how superficial the characters they are portraying are. the costumes are also nice. but other than that, the show is honestly a huge flop. and that's with me just watching the drama, i heard that it was a poor adaptation of some novel.
