unexpectedly started good, but surprisingly went downhill

i was wondering if there are xianxia short length dramas out there when this popped up in my recommendation. for a low budget drama, this one surprisingly had a good setting, costumes, and decent CGI.

honestly i decided to watch it because of the ML and ended up liking both ML and FL.

the trope in this drama is not new and nothing particular to remember. the ML had to go through three lives/tribulations in the mortal realm in exchange to be the Heavenly Emperor, and the FL took initiative to pass the trials with him (without him knowing about it).

i have mixed feelings about this one because it started so good but went downhill in the latter half. here’s my verdicts:
- their first life was memorable and the story was good enough to keep me going. the romance between them was believable.
- their second life was a mess. i’d like to blame with the writing. unlike their first life, there was no build-up to their love story and the romance wasn’t believable for me. i don’t believe with their love and it’s just so sad. though it had a little plot twist in the end, it felt kinda bland.
- their third life happened in the last episode and although it was short, but for me it was a nice surprise. it’s a happy ending.

this drama revolved around the main leads and i didn’t remember much about the supporting characters, though there were some whom i found annoying.

regardless, this one is a good short escape if you wanna watch light xianxia drama, but remember to put your expectation to zero.

Love is a Willingness to Sacrifice

despite being the short length drama, this show truly proves that you can make a good story without missing anything. storywise, this drama is better than some of long-form dramas out there.

i’d give this a solid 10 if only they would make a clear ending for the last 2 eps and explain more about the situation. i’d like to see Chang Feng and Qian Yue hug for the last time, and she welcomes him with, “…you’re back.”

but of course, the scriptwriter and producer have their own ideas, though it’s still lacking for me and i wish it could be better like some of their previous works (A Familiar Stranger, for example).

i’m honestly not a fan of short length drama because they usually can’t captivate me with their story; either it’s too rush, too many plot holes, bad acting, poor cinematography, bad costumes, etc. but after watching this show, i feel like this drama is so much better than some of full length dramas i’ve seen with the traffic actors.

this drama hooked me since the very first episode. what i liked about this drama:
- ML and FL have a great chemistry. i love their eyes and how they love each other.
- good SML and SFL. well, SML was an anti-hero, but he slowly softened towards the SFL.
- good plot. it’s not extravagant or anything, but really a good one.
- when ML and FL cried, i cried. when SML and SFL cried, i cried too. it’s not happen often. i watched this drama after knowing the ending and getting so many spoilers, so because of that usually i wouldn’t cry when the sad scenes appear because i already know what will happen after. but in this one, i cried a lot and i’d give it applause to the actors! well done. especially SFL, i really love her and i can’t imagine what her life would be after knowing the truth in the end.

for a low budget production, this one have a beautiful cinematography, costumes, and settings. this is my most favorite short drama after A Familiar Stranger and The Deliberations of Love. i just wish they’d make a clearer ending like AFS and TDOL, but i guess i’ll just take it for what it is.

if you love those i mentioned, you’ll surely love this one as well.

surprisingly entertaining and addicted to watch!

for the short-form drama, this is surprisingly very entertaining! i usually don’t write reviews but this one is criminally underrated and i feel the urge to let my feelings out after finishing this drama.

in terms of the romance plot there are some moments that i found them very cute and swoon-worthy. i really love the leads chemistry, they’re such a cute couple! 6 eps are not enough! i wish we could have one more episode to see more of their dating life.

it’s weirdly addicting to watch this show, especially when the ML becomes “the husky”. put aside the logic behind this genetic-modification, the ML really did a great job for portraying his character! well, i’d just say this is more like a fantasy story of a-husky-turns-to-be-a-human kinda thing.

what i like about this story:
- the chemistry between the leads is amazing and cute, some kiss scenes are good!
- smart and brave FL who can stand up for herself
- good SML
- the dynamic between all the workers in the ML’s company
- swoon-worthy moments between the leads
- some laughable moments
- ML’s behavior when he is in “the husky mode” scenes

what i dislike about this story:
- given the ML’s history, he should have some trust-issue with people around him, especially for stranger. but strangely he trusted the FL very much to keep his secret (the husky thing) without signing any contract for that on their first meeting. latter, he also shared his secret to the SML for the sake of the FL which is contradictory with his condition. i just.. i feel like they should sign a contract or something since the ML’s condition is very uncommon and he knows there are some people waiting for his fall-out. so logically he should be more aware of keeping his secret.

regardless i still find this drama is worth to watch and pretty rewatchable in the future especially if i have nothing to watch. i just love the romance parts for our main leads. they look so cute!

i started this drama because of the ML and ended up liking both the ML and FL. hopefully ryan cheng will get more main lead roles in the future for modern rom-com dramas! his acting is so good and i really want to see him act in modern dramas.

for people who adore ryang cheng’s acting, please do watch this drama! don’t be discourage with the low rating. but obviously please don’t use your logic for the genetic-modification thing and simply just enjoy the series :) especially if you’re here for the romance!
