Healer!

Loved it!

Don’t wanna say Park Min-Young carried this show because there are so many other aspects to it I love, but her as the FL in this is so alluring! She’s so quirky and charming… every scene she’s in she just kills. She really brought a great and unique personality to her character. And the short haircut ☺️😍🥰 that’s all I gotta say.

Looking back after finishing, I’d say the first half is far better than the latter… it has so much more going for it, as the first focuses more on the blossoming relationship between the FL and ML as well as developing some interesting plot points we’ll desperately want resolved, the latter half is honed in on unraveling the plot and reveals. I certainly lost a bit of interest, and the ending felt sadly rushed. The mother daughter reunion/reveal wasn’t as potent emotionally as it should have been. The identity reveals for our main characters wasn’t handled the way I wished it was.

But overall this show is amazing. Again, Park Min-Young killed it… made me go check out more of her work. Ji Chang-Wook is also great as the ML, he also brings some great charisma to the screen. Their chemistry together is so great.

This is my first time watching Ji Chang Wook's drama and I have become his fan.  This drama has a lot to offer. From action, love, thrill and dramatic scenes. I would say this is one of the best Korean drama that I had watched and I don't mind watching it again and again. Nevertheless, I find the pace of the drama starts kind of slow in the beginning and after half of the series, it started to gain some momentum. I think because the momentum was slow in the beginning, it became to fast to digest at the end. I think It's better to start the climax earlier and make the ending stronger and powerful.  In addition, I think the drama lack mystery part. Maybe it is better if the audience also involved in guessing what happened in the past which can make it more interesting, like the way I Hear Your Voice. This may be can add the suspense more. Overall it was a great journey. I love the couple. They are really really cute together. There are also a lot of romantic and cute scenes that will make you melt.

It is timeless.

This is created in 2014. And now it’s 2020 . Yet, this drama can hold on its own even all these years. Why? I’ll reiterate, it is TIMELESS. Yes, a classic, beautifully-made drama that will leave you spellbound up to the very end. It is does not rely mainly on one theme but it perfectly manages to knit varied genres. This I think made the story one fascinating. Hence, I am still wondering why it is not that well-received in Korea during it’s airing. Anyway, I personally dig this show because it somehow reminds me of “La Femme Nikita”. It is like “West meets the East”. It feels like a Hollywood TV show but has Asian touch. Well, maybe it is just me. Overall, I want to give “Healer” a perfect rating. Like seriously, even my husband who is not so much into this kind of thing, seriously finished this show. Dang!!! I am even utterly in love with how JCW portrays his characters. Hope you give it a try too!!!

Romance with action right up my alley!

The beginning started out a bit boring as they fleshed out the different characters individually. But it soon got exciting for me as I enjoyed the interactions between Healer, his hacker handler and the FL.

The acting was great for so many of the characters but the standout for me was Ms Jo who was this quirky hacker who makes gimbabs and also knits all while keeping an eye on the various screens in front of her! Her conversations with the ML are hilarious as she doesn’t hold back, frequently calling him a mutt!

The ML was cool in the way he manages to carry out his various jobs, nimbly climbing up walls and effortless taking down many bad guys - the stunt work was good and choreography of the fighting scenes well done. His acting was very good especially seeing him switch between his real self and his bumbling assistant reporter disguise. His chemistry with the FL was wonderful and their love was beautiful to watch.

Style of cinematography and choice of music was not as good as the more recent dramas but if you can overlook that (considering it is 8 years old), this is a good drama that has a nice romance with some great action sequences.

Healer is the most wonderful and incredible k-drama I've watched this year for sure. I was amazed watching every episode.
The actors and actresses were on point! I like the characters, specially Young Sin. I liked her personality, the fact that she wanted to do some things for her own. I liked how brave she was even if she had this panic attack every time she saw a violent act.
Healer's hacker (Ahjumma) MY FAVORITE WOMAN EVER. LOVED HER. She was so pro! Always helping my guy to solve things. Wow. I was really impressed everytime.
And HEALER, my precious boy Seo Jung Hoo. I'm gonna miss him! This guy is BADASS. I really, really loved all his action scenes, I felt really bad about his story, but I'm so glad he found this awesome girl to take care of him because even if he is the one who protects, he truly deserves the best of the world and most important: love.
The scenery, the action scenes, THE OST. Omg, the OST was the best, best part. I ADORE IT. It's so beautiful.
This is my first action drama and I'm really happy I watched it. Thanks to my friend who recommended me. I cried, I laughed but specially I ENJOYED all the drama. Honestly, my favorite kdrama from now on. This is one I want to recommend always. Everyone HAS to watch this history. It was really touching and heartbreaking. I liked the funny scenes, they warm my heart.
Basically, I'm looking foward to watch it again and again.

This show has everything that you could be looking for in a K-Drama!

This is my 12th K-drama, and I don't think that I will find one that I like more. It has the right about of romance, action, comedy, and mystery to keep you watching. The romance was sweet and sincere, and his jealousy (not too much) was adorable. The fight scenes were awesome and I love watching a guy who can take of things! This is an absolute must watch, and I don't know what took me so long. I usually like romantic comedies, and seriously, without being the major focus, their romance is one of my favs!

Best drama of Ji Chang Wook for me! His chemistry with Park Min Young is very natural. I have a bias with good-looking main characters, so whenever they're on-screen, I can't help but fall in love with them.
Love the hacker, ahjumma! I wish I have a genius friend like her, who loves knitting and gimbap lol. And Reporter Kim Mun Ho is sooo handsome! This is the first time I've liked an "older" character. His eyes are very expeessive, so his role as a passionate reporter suits him perfectly. I was just slightly disappointed with the ending, since it did not show what exactly happened with Kim Mun Sik, Yeong Sin's mother, and Boss. It may just be me, but I always like to see what happened with everyone on the last episode. If I compare this to a book, I'd describe it as a page-turner! I spent 4 sleepless nights ????

10 ☆

An emotional rollercoaster ride and it was sooooo good! ML is beyond cute and played this part so well. The sad scenes, they tug at your heart. He knocked this roll out of the park!

The FL was not a passive, follow 10 ft behind, kind of girl. You will laugh with her, cheer her on, feel sad when she's sad, and enjoy seeing the two fall in love.

The supporting cast, loved them and the mystery behind everything may come to light, but what an interesting ride.

YES, IT'S RE-WATCH MATERIAL! ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

I can't count how many times I've watched Healer, haha! That shows you how really good it is! I watched it just recently again this year, and it did not fail to impress me once more. Ji Chang Wook and Park Min Young are such great actors! I really enjoyed their Chemistry! Also I also loved the action scenes too! Their Original Soundtrack too were really nice. If you're a Ji Chang Wook fan, and you have not watched this drama yet then you better start binge watching it, because trust me, you'll not regret it!
Above all, I really enjoyed watching Healer💙💜

Dragged it out in the end, what started as an interesting drama ended up being a drag in the end. I literally cudnt wait for it to end. Enjoyed the initial few episodes. Reduced number of episodes with crisper writing & ending wud have helped hold the interest. The last episode seemed like the creators suddenly remembered drama needs to end & hurriedly finished it. I would have loved it if the ajjumma character had been explored a bit more, also the myung hee-moon shik story didn't get the ending it deserved considering the build-up that story was given. Loved the characters, music & fashion. The winter wears were definitely to die for. A one time must watch.

A Good Series That Should Have Been Great!

“Healer” kicks off like a massive thunderstorm, and by the time it ends, it’s just a gentle rain, which left me to wonder, “What the heck happened?”

Seo Jung Hoo is a man in his late twenties who is basically a sort of “hero for hire.” He has fancy gadgets supplied by his hacker partner, Jo Min-Ja. He’s hired to do any job except for murder A master at hand-to-hand combat as well as being able to evade pursuit and detection, he’s sort of a cross between Ethan Hunt and Jason Bourne. Little does Seo Jung Hoo realize that he’s soon thrown into job that takes him back to his own origins from 20 years ago.

Chae Yeong Shin is a novice reporter working for an online tabloid news company. She’s tenacious when it comes to tracking down a story, but other than that, she has no real journalistic skills at all. This is coupled by the fact that she gets severe panic attacks whenever she’s in a violent situation; attacks that incapacitate her. Of course, why she never suffers an attack during her first confrontation with Seo Jung Hoo is never explained, even when he threatens to harm her if she resists. She, too, has a tie to 20 years ago.

Finally, we have Kim Moon Ho who is Korea’s most famous journalist. He’s nothing short of a celebrity, but thanks to Seo Jung Hoo and Chae Yeong Shin, he is quickly immersed in a massive cover-up that involves his brother and their friends from 20 years ago. Kim Moon Ho is the only one who knows Chae Yeong Shin’s true connection to his brother’s wife (who is Chae Yeong Shin’s mother who believes her daughter to be dead). This sets the stage for a sort of “David vs. Goliath” showdown in which our three protagonists struggle to uncover the truth, who is pulling the strings, as well as trying to stay alive in the process!

While this all sounds intriguing, and for the first twelve episodes or so, it is, but suddenly, there are just way too many plot holes to plug up by the final episode. It lacks the tautness both of story and character that were present in such thrillers as “Vincenzo” and “Stranger.” In those series, the writers and actors knew their characters backwards and forwards. If only “Healer” could have been done with the same attention to detail, this may have been a very different series.

As you may expect, Chae Yeong Shin is like a 7th rate Lois Lane. She soon finds herself falling for the mysterious Seo Jung Hoo, especially after he saves her (fairly typical of nearly every superhero movie ever made!). She’s soon behaving much like a swooning 18-year-old. Min Young Park seems to try her best to keep a handle on her character, but too often, she goes from a journalist with some degree of professionalism to a shy, don’t touch me in front of my father, little girl. Korea is a somewhat conservative country, at least when it comes to K-dramas. Their movies are something else entirely! I guess they want you to believe that Korean women are still innocent and the property of their families. When Chae Yeong Shin tells Seo Jung Hoo that he needs her father’s approval to date (after they’ve already spent the night together!), I cringed. Is this 1950 all of a sudden?! A late twenties woman hasn’t the guts to speak for herself. Wow!

There were a lot of key missing conversations that never took place in the series that had me scratching my head. At one point, Seo Jung Hoo is overwhelmed by the death of his master. Chae Yeong Shin finds his lair and attempts to help. She never asks him why he secluded himself. So much for journalistic attributes to say nothing about someone simply showing concern. Ever after she finds out about his true identity, there’s no real conversation about it.

At one point, Seo Jung Hoo runs off to help his mother who is in danger. He’s operating in the guise of Bong Su Park, who works undercover with Chae Yeong Shin. Chae Yeong Shin finds him unconscious on the rooftop. Bong Su is a bit of a coward, and yet Chae Yeong Shin never asks why he ran off in the first place after he recovers.

Chae Yeong Shin also seems to have strange mood swings. She’s upset one moment and then she’s suddenly okay. I’ve never seen characters with such speedy recoveries in my life! In one scene, she’s nearly catatonic, and by the time Seo Jung Hoo reaches the first floor of the coffee shop where she lives, she comes bounding down the stairs with a smile on her face as though nothing had happened. I wondered if she was bi-polar!

I also found it strange when Seo Jung Hoo is set up for a murder rap, and Chae Yeong Shin sees him covered in blood, she’s initially shocked until he runs off. She never once attempts to contact him. It isn’t until a couple of days later that she finally asks if he’s ever killed anyone. So much for trust and faith, eh?

Seo Jung Hoo is a man who is in tremendous shape, literally scaling buildings and running across rooftops. He and Chae Yeong Shin stupidly decide to try and have a “normal” life, despite the fact that there has been NO resolution to their situation. Suddenly, Seo Jung Hoo is sleepy and seems to have no energy in the office workplace. Give me a break! A guy in that kind of shape is suddenly struggling to stay awake?! Even after he’s already been working those hours as Bong Su? This wasn’t just laughable. It was absolutely ludicrous! It was bad enough that someone of Seo Jung Hoo’s intelligence would suddenly decide to hang up his “cape and cowl” when the bad guys are still out there and there hasn’t been a resolution. It was an insult to the intelligence of the character as well as the viewer to buy such a cheap ploy.

I was also a little surprised that we didn’t get a final “daughter/mother” reveal between Chae Yeong Shin and her mother in the last episode. Even though it’s obvious that they both pretty much knew, I was waiting for that moment which never came.

Also, I felt that the final ploy to bring down “the Boss” at the end was a fairly cheap one. I was hoping for something bigger from “the Boss,” and a guy who seemed almost unbeatable.

Performances are pretty good in this series. Kim Mi Kyung is easily my favorite character of this series. She’s just a fantastic actress! Ji Chang Wook did a good job with what he had to work with, and Min Young Park was decent who just had too many awkward moments. One, which was at the end when Seo Jung Hoo puts out his hand to her, and Chae Yeong Shin actually hesitates to take it! Right after she does, she immediately goes into a little thing about how she can never imagine being without him. Then, why the hesitation?! It made no sense!

While the music was good, I started getting tired of the same two songs always being played after nearly every scene! The vocalizing choir really got on my nerves after just the first few episodes.

Healer is a series that was good, but it really should have been great. I know this series has very high ratings. Honestly, I guess I just don’t understand why, especially with so many problems with the script and the characters. It made zero sense not to tell Chae Yeong Shin’s mother about her daughter. You really think that kind of new would actually kill her?! If anything, it would give her some well-needed healing and hope! That was just a horrible reason!

It's sad that after 20 episodes, they still couldn’t quite get everything right. It made me wish that Hacker Jo Min Jae could have hacked into the script and done some serious editing and fixing! Now that would have been worthy of the Healer!
