Not great, but pretty good

I’m fresh out of finishing this drama right now, and unfortunately I think I went in with too high of expectations. PYHOMS is pretty darn popular, and after seeing it around a ton a finally decided to give it a shot.

I finished the drama in about a week, and while I did enjoy it, it was a bit lacking too. There isn’t much going on plot wise, which I don’t always think is a bad thing, sometimes I enjoy a brainless fluff romance. And this show was definitely that.

While there is a bit of story going on with both the ML and FL’s careers and college, the story is really just about their romance. Which by the way, takes quite a while to kick off.

Overall, I liked Situ Mo and Gu Weiyi together, they were adorably awkward and I enjoyed most of their scenes together. Compared to the romances in a lot of C-Dramas, this one seems a little more real, they’re awkward and unsure about their relationship for most of the show, and I did enjoy slowly seeing them get more comfortable together. I did however find Gu Weiyi and how his character was being played maybe even a little too awkward.

There’s tons of cute fluff moments once they get together and plenty of fun banter before they do, so there was usually something going on that I liked.

There aren’t many conflicts throughout the show, and those that arise tend to be delt with quickly, so if you want a really low stress watch, this is perfect for that. You’re not going to find anything plot heavy of thought provoking though.

The OST, while not my favorite, served its purpose well, and there were one or two songs that I liked pretty well.

I found myself pretty uninterested in the secondary romance plot line, though some people really did like them, so it’s a bit of a gamble I think.

The ending of the show did leave me with a little more to be desired, even after watching the thirteen-minute special episode after it. The story ends pretty abruptly, and I would have liked several parts of the story to have been wrapped up a little cleaner.

Overall, PYHOMS was just pretty good. Though it didn’t stick out as a masterpiece, I enjoyed it well enough and would recommend it for a pretty short brainless romance story if you’re into that.

At first I don’t plan to watch cos I’ve watched enough school/uni type of drama. But then my friend highly recommend me so why not, watch a quick light love story I thought. The drama start off with female lead introduce second male lead if I’m not wrong - I thought....huh? This is second male lead....? =.= I honestly don’t like second male lead....And always listen how they portray he is handsome guy, and seeing all the girls woo-ing him kind....I skipped. Ew.

However I did watched finished all with lots of skipping on second couple. And in the mid of the drama, I realised the female lead actually had done lots of same genre school/uni love......so I watched other while this drama have yet to finish. Gosh the more I watch her on other roles....I can honestly tell you guys that u felt vomit seeing her too much....so all drama of hers - watched up to 2 episodes I done and I completed this only. Enufff. And now her work in “Your Highness” Same...school love story.

So yeah. Additionally, really poor character of the second male lead -

And very boring after couple together already....

The plot was great! The romance was not rushed or anything and there were many cute moments between Si Tu Mo and Gu Wei Yi. The height difference was so cute! I liked how Gu Wei Yi realized his feelings for Si Tu Mo before she did! The scenes at the laboratory were really funny. The laboratory turned into Give Gu Wei Yi Dating Tips. I liked how you could sometimes see the scenes from different point of views. The ending was not very satisfying though. It skips a few years to where you could see their kid, but that was only about 5 minutes. Other than that, the plot was very well developed.

A C T I N G _
Fair Xing did a great job at acting the role of Si Tu Mo. She is one of my favorite actresses. Lin Yi is actually 5 years younger than her, but their acting was great! There was actually chemistry between the leads. In the beginning, Fu Pei was a really annoying character, but as the drama went on, he became really likable. He and Wang Shan really deserve each other. I felt bad for the Senior at the lab. She liked Gu Wei Yi, but didn't try to sabotage his relationship. She really deserves someone.

M U S I C _
The animal sounds effects were adorable.

R E W A T C H _
I probably couldn't rewatch the whole thing, but I would rewatch the cute scenes.

O V E R A L L _
I gave this drama 9 out of 10! It's a really nice drama, I didn't need to skip any scenes! Definitely would rewatch this!

At first, I found this drama kind of boring and the acting wasn't good either. As I keep on watching it, I found that the story/plot wasn't that bad after all. It's kind of interesting how a smart scientist would fall in love with a marketing girl. In the beginning, it would be boring but trust me when you get to the end you will start finding it interesting. To me, their interactions are not so great but acting is not bad. It was good how they asked Lin Yi to be the main cast of this drama. He makes me fall for the whole drama. Give this drama a try. It's worth it!! <3

Hi everyone ????
This drama surprised me... It was not what I was expecting... But... So much better in so many ways...
The main leads were so good and had such great chemistry, you can't help but smile and laugh... The cat and dog sounds were a killer, the characters development was gradual and well done, hands up for the writer... This was well written and directed... Kind of refreshing for a Chinese Drama...
I do believe it was the cutest drama I watched this year...
So give it a try I promise you won't regret it...
Have fun

A drama you can watch over and over again (and I do!)

I rewatched this drama for the second time. I love Xing Fei, I forgot how tiny she is! And of course Lin Yi grew on me eventually. Probably the best thing about this drama is the chemistry between the leads. This drama basically launched their careers and I’m glad it did. I love the easy and angst free drama. It always puts a smile on my face and you just need that one drama you can watch over and over again because of all of it’s cuteness. I do find it adorable, that Xing Fei and Tang Xiao Tian (second male lead) do end up in a drama together eventually and it was very successful too. What great casting!

Cute and refreshing premise . . . but then what?

Refreshing 1: Gu Weiyi isn't perfect out of the box, but he knows what he wants and he wants Situ Mo. He usually does the wrong thing the first time he tries, but he wants to do better, is eager to improve, and learns from his mistakes.

Refreshing 2: Situ Mo has a relevant backstory. After hanging around a non-committal guy for months and months, she is now a bit hard to trust and quick to anger. She is high -energy, with a fierce, sulky temper - but that is an earned characteristic - not irrational and out of the blue.

Unfortunately, the plot is dragged over 24 episodes to the point where I stopped caring how it all resolved (I did watch it to the end for the record). The other negative point, beyond pacing, was I did not like the secondary couple plot- it just was thrown in without any real theme or purpose.

The main couple was incredibly endearing and while not 'naturalistic' it wasn't horribly overacted. The secondary characters did overact but not enough to throw off the whole show.

Music was competent, but I do wish there was one or two more songs in the mix.

I would not re-watch. The show is very quiet, slice-of life with no particular dramatic moments. Any sort of tension is resolved within minutes.

I grade by other criteria as well.

-----

Complex Themes - 7.5
Nothing complex, but I did like the premise that it's not the first impression or first time that matters - it's how you work hard and improve at things.
Character Growth - 5
The characters are pretty much the same at the beginning as at the end - there isn't a sense that the characters have been changed by time or events. The show could easily have taken place over a couple months with the same level of character growth.
Complex Women - 8
I liked Situ Mo a lot. She tries hard, is willing to make mistakes, is exuberant and enthusiastic. It was very endearing. While I think some could be turned off by her temper/failures to communicate, I think in the context of what she's been through (and Gu Weiyi's clumsy relationship mistakes) it makes sense and she usually recovers quickly.
Cinematography/Production Values - 7.5
Is exactly how one would expect from this show. There's no extraordinarily wealthy people in it, nor fantasy elements, which makes it easy to do. There is a lot of shooting outside/in real locations, and the apartment felt like a real apartment (not sure if it was or a soundstage).

Okey. So when I watched the trailer, i thought this was gonna be a full on story about a very handsome, stingy and clean guy who falls in love with a cute girl. NOPE! I was totally wrong. It was actually a very REALISTIC couple story
(i think >_<)

Its basically a story about a nerd and a girl going out! hahahah......yea! That's honestly what it's about. The nerd, Gu wei yi, who knows nothing except for physics falls in love with a really cute and bubbly girl, Si Tu mo and they both start dating!

What I like about this drama was that it was that it wasn't dramatic. Which i think was what was attractive about this drama. Just a SIMPLE love story that many couples and people can relate to.

There were many things the NERD didn't know to do when their relationship started - How to make the other person happy, why the other person was unhappy and just lots of small stuff. The funny thing is he would just search online and ask his mates questions all the time which is TOTALLY RELATABLE. Right????? (Tell me I'm not the only one who does this) There were also times where they're so used to being themselves and not telling each other whats happening, which hurt the other person, they learnt from that and started changing from then on. Which is what most couples do. Learn from each other and become stronger!

The beginning of this drama SURPRISINGLY isn't about a girl who was head over heals for the main lead but about her liking a man since high school and they've always been close but never confessed their feelings to each other. But because of the relationship the boy had with her, she (Si tu Mo) was sometimes left neglected and left with the question "does he like me or not?" Then the NERD, Gu wei yi comes along. They didnt like each other to start off with but after getting to know each other a little more, what she was wanting from a man which the other boy couldnt give her was in him so they slowly started falling in love :) The start was really memorable to me. It was just simple and realistic. Hahahah..........I guess there just arent many dramas like this?

A character I really liked about this drama was the supporting role Xie Yu jin (Gu wei Yi's senior) because EVERYBODY can relate to her. EVERYONE. I honestly feel like everyone in the entire world has experienced what she has experience. Liking someone secretly without confessing. Trying to find many ways to see and talk to them but then the man she likes eventually gets a girlfriend and she no longer has a chance. She didn't hate anyone, possibly felt a little sad and still liked him a little but at the very end, she was happy for the couple and moved on. Which is what happens in life. Just gotta learn to move on!

**Nonsense stuff I want to talk about** - SKIP IF U WANT

So there's a character in the story i just wanna mention. Jie Er (Si Tu Mo) colleague, who was a high school classmate of hers and fought with her when she was young over the guy they both liked. At the start I honestly thought she was gonna snatch and be jealous and be a typical support role that is the "bitch" as there always is. Throughout the whole drama of expecting that......NO! Omg! For the first time! Hahaha......a realistic supporting role that has MATURED and GROWN up. WOWW. Never i my life have I seen a drama like this yet its so realistic so I wonder why not? hahaha........ All the dramatic scenes removed which leaves this drama so unique and a pleasure to watch.

However, I have to say.......this drama is interesting boring? HAHAHAHAH..........that doesnt really make sense however if i would explain what i mean it would be.........there werent DRAMATIC scenes so.........it was a little boring BUT you keep on watching because its unique which is what makes it interesting. Hhahaha..........i dont know if that makes sense but just thought I would share that with you guys.

Thanks for reading. PEACE :)

A fluffy nonsense

I Honestly don’t have the wherewithal to write this review. This started so good. It was funny and cute. But it ended up being a cute fluffy middle school romance drama that disappointed me greatly. I don’t know if it’s because of his age or what the reason was that made the kiss scenes so extremely bad. But that’s just an excuse IMO as Wang AnYu was the same age when he acted in “Falling Into You” and he over delivered there (I keep saying that actors/actress and CDrama directors need to go take kissing lessons from that drama). If it was only just the issue of the kiss scenes been terrible i could have tolerated it but no, when they finally confessed to having feelings for each other we got the most horribly awkward tv couple of all time. The awkwardness was so damn painful to watch and it was illogical. It didn’t make any logical sense why these two people who have been living together for so long will be this extremely awkward with each other.
Like I said i don’t know if it was the age of Lin Yi or because of the director that the kiss scenes were so bad but am just glad that Tang Xiao Tian the SML made it up to Xing Fei aka FL 2yrs later in their own drama My Little Happiness. If you want to watch an adult romance with better plot featuring 2 out of the 4 main leads in this drama then go watch My Little Happiness. Enough said.
Don’t even get me started on the second couple. The FL was in love with the SML since highSchool but the SML kept putting off starting a relationship with her and disappointing her so many times, when the FL finally got over him, the light bulbs went off and he realized that he’s in love with her but alas it was too late. One of the FLs best friends fell in love with said SML even knowing the situation-ship between her “friend” aka the FL and the SML, that was icky alone on its own for me but the major eye roll moment was when they tried to sell me that the SML has now falling in love with said FLs friend. The way the feelings happened went from 0-100 and was so super unrealistic, he was crying over the FL but less than a week/month he’s now in love with the FLs friend, puhhhhh-lease.
I was going to give this a 2 or 3/10 to be honest but the last episode was nice so it made me change it to 5/10 but that is all this deserves IMO.
I won’t be rewatching this horrible awkward painful experience that’s for sure

good, but boring

the beginning of the end started to get boring. they got together and then the episodes just dragged on. yawwwn.

other than the main story, i thought the second male lead was excruciatingly hard to watch. i skipped over his parts or any parts that had to do with the other girl. the show could have gone perfectly smooth if either they made the sml more likeable or just scrapped those two all together lmfao.

i loved the main girl character! she is so cute.

i don't really have anything else to say about the show but i can't post my review without a certain count of words so here i go with saying blahblahblahblahblahblahblah

As nutritious as cotton-candy (and just as sweet)

I’ve never necessarily loved Chinese romance dramas for a variety of reasons but I’ve had a rough start into the year which is why I was looking for something wholesome to soothe my troubled mind.
Well I am glad to report that Put Your Head On My Shoulder served its purpose!

This is so sickishly sickishly sweet, if this show was any longer it would be health concern. But there are actually a bunch of things that I genuinely appreciated about it.
For starters, I really really liked the female lead. I found the performance of the actress a bit cringe-worthy at times (does this woman ever stop smiling??) but that doesn’t mean that I didn’t enjoy her character. Often, I find myself annoyed by the female protagonists in Chinese romances, often they’re painfully naïve, incompetent, endlessly forgiving and chase after the male lead (who usually doesn’t even deserve it) to an embarrassing degree. Well, none of these tropes were present in this drama. I had a really easy time rooting for Situ Mo, she was confident, witty and funny and also good at her job. She wasn’t a genius but she wasn’t a complete idiot either. Situ Mo was driven by her emotions but never irrational or irritating to watch. She had an actual personality outside of her love life, had hobbies, interests and friends. She got along with other women, was never threatened by them or petty and treated even her romantic rivals with respect. And I also really like that she wasn’t afraid of taking the lead when it came to progressing her relationship with her housemate. Long story short, she was a complete person before falling in love. Never was she reliant on the male leads help, she was doing her own thing and chasing after her dreams, it was truly refreshing to see actually.
Another problem I often have with Asian dramas in general but Chinese romance dramas especially, is that I simply don’t see the appeal in a hypercompetent, arrogant male protagonist. I might be in the minority here but I find the idea of a perfect man whose only flaw is his ego so so incredibly uninteresting. When I read the premise of this drama, I thought that was what I was getting into with Gu Wei-Yi. But he turned out to be one of the most charming male leads I have seen in a long time. What can I say, I just enjoy watching a guy who is a little bit pathetic. And this is exactly what Put Your Head On My Shoulder delivered. Gu Wei-Yi was such an embarrassing loser, an academically smart idiot, a simp, as the teens would say. And I couldn’t be any happier about that. The first few episodes, when this show tried super hard to convince me that this character was supposed to be the coolest most intelligent dude ever, I found myself a bit bored by him. Only a bit further into the drama, when it got more and more clear that this man 1.) was down bad and 2.) had no clue what he was doing, I was truly charmed.
A lot of the comedy of this show came from Gu Wei-Yi embarrassing himself, which I really enjoyed. I am so used to the female protagonist being the butt of the joke, but this was rarely the case here. I think this was very needed to make the power dynamic of the lead couple more balanced, as the male protagonist was supposed to be a handsome genius that every girl desires and Mo Situ just a regular woman. He was also responsible for her living situation so all of this could have turned really toxic very quickly. But making Gu Wei-Yi incredibly socially awkward put the odds back into the female leads favor and I had a fun time watching this guy try super-hard for our protagonist even though this show initially tried to convince me that he was way out of her league.

The biggest weakness of this show has a name and it’s Fu Pei. I am usually soft for the childhood friend second lead, nope, not the case here! Man does this guy suck. Not only was he super unlikable and a borderline creep, he was also oh so boring, His prior relationship and dynamic with Mo Situ was poorly established and so was his further character development. Luckily you can just skip all of his scenes and miss exactly nothing, that is how irrelevant he was.
I also found this drama a bit redundant the second our lead couple got together, because, as mentioned, I think most of this drama’s comedy and charm lies in Gu Wei-Yi chasing after Mo Situ, but I also understand that you can’t stretch this plot line for longer than like 15 episodes so maybe this show could have done with like 16 episodes instead of 24. But the later episodes were still somewhat enjoyable to watch and I found them charming enough so I am nitpicking here.
Also: this is definiteley a drama that will make you cringe a lot, I don't think that that has to be a bad thing, often enough the show was self-aware about it and making the viewer feel embarassed was part of its charm/humor but it's something to watch out for if you're especially prone to second hand embarassment. I dare you to watch any of the "spicier" scenes with a straight face. Or any scene where any character soeaks English, it's a tough ask, believe me.

Put Your Head On My Shoulder is like cotton candy. There really is nothing to it except for its sweetness. This drama offers nothing of value, no themes , deeper ideas, barely any plot to be honest, but that was never what I wanted from it. I thoroughly enjoyed this show for its simplicity. Through the entirety of its runtime, I found myself expecting some kind of major conflict, that one of the characters would have a depressing past, that there would be a major love triangle, a big fallout, anything that would disrupt the peace I found within this, but to my surprise that moment never came. And you know what, I am glad it didn’t. There are times where I am looking for maturity and realism in my love stories, this wasn’t one of them. There is nothing wrong with silly wish-fulfillment and media that makes you feel nothing but good. Life is depressing enough, sometimes after a long day, you need shows like this.

Schoolish/ young romcom with added mix feelings and no guts plus and idiot friend to keep it going

Life is too short for stressful drama. Why spend all that time watching and be stressed? Don’t our lives already provide enough of that?

Summary of the series:
- somewhat Light hearted rom/com; series’ flow was slow
- a bit of stress watching it, had to fast forward some due to the many mis-opportunities and no guts from spitting out your feelings
- FL and ML was annoying at times; so many times they are close to coaxing the other but decided to do something to tick them off
- simpatico characters
- no mystery, no deep story, just sit back and let it drag at time
- some some struggles, calamity or miscommunications to cause more drama, stress to extend the series
- it s a bit forgetful after watching it, ending is also a bit rushed and not extend the happiest for another episode
- the parents of the ML/FL made the show
- very low rewatch value as you will feel the drag X2

somewhat fun joyful lighthearted with some stress series: watch only if you have time and have watched others

If you are looking for slow love story with gratuitous stress/drama, frequent no guts, insipid side stories, then this is for you.
