Where is the part in America in which mangas are prohibited? When you make a statement like that you must give especifics. Also, Im an avid fan of mangas, I buy them all the time from 6-10 dollars, thats not expenssive considering it is a form of art, you are not just buying a story, you are buying art. .
not to sound snarky, but i did not say that the purchase of manga was PROHIBITIED, i said the COST of purchasing manga is for many fans PROHIBATIVE, which simply means the high cost stops many fans from being able to purchase. for most people it simply isnt an option to spend $10 (usually more if you want it new) for a book they will read in 20 minutes. there are of course the avid fans and collectors who dont care about that kind of thing, but your average person isnt going to be willing to invest that kind of money. even when i've gone online and gotten good deals once you factor in shipping i've personally never paid less than $15 dollars for a single book in new condition.
america has a VERY homogonized pop-culture sceene. there is a small pool of other nationalities (like latino and some european) that have been folded in but there is very little beyond that. in the main stream asian culture is rarely consumed beyond anmie and video games. finding things like a korean novel translated into english certainly isnt an impossible task, but a very difficult one b/c most americans have no interest in historical korean fiction. why? well it has to be at least partially due to the fact that americans (general) place an over exaggerated value on all things american.
i cant speak to what goes on in other countries and how thier citizens feel, b/c i am an american and have neer been to another country.
