Drama Series Special No. 1: White Christmas - with your interest in crime, closed off male characters, and hidden identity, this could be just the thing. It's a dark psychological suspense drama where elite students are snowed in and have to figure out who is menacing them. The drama explores the dark side of humanity. I wouldn't call it angst, but there's a lot of grim, cold hearts in this story. It's an ensemble, and most of the characters are male students.
Chicago Typewriter - Closed off ML, and in a way everyone has a hidden identity, because the plot hinges on the three main characters uncovering their past lifetimes. This drama hops genres a lot, and starts off like a romcom, but if you wait, you'll get some excellent tragedy and angst. It's more balanced between the ML and the FL than it is ML-centered, but it's not FL-centered, at least.
Flower of Evil - I see this is on your Plan to Watch, and its hidden identity trope is amazing. It is more focused on the ML, even though it's partly the story of a marriage, and the FL is very strong in her own right. But it's the ML's terrifying life journey that provides the drama's spine. There's most definitely some tragedy and angst, and the ML keeps a lot of himself secret. You can definitely say he's closed off, even though he's loving towards his wife and daughter.
SKY Castle - Even though the memorable protagonists in this drama are all women, you asked for the best dramas and tragedies, and this is one of the very best - the writing and the characters are all totally killer good. I see it's on your PtW, and I think the hidden identity elements are striking and memorable, and even though they don't dominate the plot, they're integral.
Nirvana in Fire - I'm not seeing many Chinese costume dramas on your Watchlist, but this is one of the very best hidden identity plots I've ever seen. And it has tragedy and angst. And it's extremely ML focused. And the ML is a mysterious mastermind who carries major secrets. I see The Untamed didn't grab you after the first episode, and even though it does have some hidden identity, particularly in the opening episodes, the MLs are not what I would call closed off. If you'd care to share why The Untamed didn't work for you, I can let you know where it's different from, and similar to, Nirvana in Fire.
