A question to the crowd/fans/diamonds/you: so, if someone says "i am gay only for you" is equally bad saying "i love only you" or "i am in love only with you" or "i have sex only with you"? (i am just asking this Q separatelly form this series as i haven't seen it yet, only your discussion about gay fantasy vs. gay reality world)

try to watch it in different mood though, helps me a lot many times; imo it is a tropey story, the fun is comic relief but one that works, subtle, not overdone (expect mother and sidekick, b ut as far as that is intentional and outside of the main plot, idc); only my initial reaction to War was "if i see one more anorectic behaving actor, i will drop the series immediatelly". For I did think he lost weight and I do believe passionatelly we must stop supporting that (as much as we must stop excusing morbid obesity). But that is out of the story thing really. It got me to heartfelt rage though.

Ahh, sorry, I promised to let you know but i just got back to watching Cases now, and so far it is very cute! It is about this blowing rich kid being opinionated and helping solve cases to cold stoic one, so thus is the dynamics (kid is extrovert, cold is introverted, i use the tags freely, so the kid is not kidding or something, dont worry :)). I am just not able to digest it fast as this is my blind corner sorta and as I am not into cases solving and at the same time i am writing something like case solving (minimising the cases part, ofc :D), it takes ages as i go thoroughly through each episode. But it is good. 🥰 Any delay is on my side.

But you’re arguing against something I didn’t say. 😂 I never said people don’t imitate things they see in fiction. Of course they can. The point is that imitation alone does not prove that the fiction caused the behavior, and it certainly doesn’t prove that replacing one form of entertainment with R&B, soul, pop, or whatever else is somehow the solution.

And the K-pop example doesn’t really change that. People can imitate something they see in media without that media being the sole, or even primary, cause of what they do. There can be a relationship between the two without the simplistic “they watched it, therefore they did it because of it” conclusion.

Also, your comment started with BL media supposedly contributing to teenagers ending up in graves, and then somehow turned into Won Bin, Yoo Ah-in, Kim Sung Oh, plastic surgery, K-drama writers recycling plots, and K-netizens. 😂 At this point, I’m not even sure what argument we’re actually debating anymore.

And yes, South Korea has serious problems. So do many other countries. But that still doesn’t make “stop watching dramas and listen to R&B/soul/pop instead” meaningful suicide prevention advice.

If the concern is genuinely about teenagers being influenced by unhealthy portrayals of relationships, then teach them how to recognize unhealthy relationships, manipulation, abuse, consent, and the difference between fiction and reality. That actually addresses the problem you’re describing.

Telling them to swap one passive entertainment medium for another doesn’t. It is just exchanging one form of passive escapism for another.

U-huuuu, apocalyptic and dystopian forecasts—prepare the umbrellas! I don’t know about R&B, soul, pop, or cadence music preparing anyone for anything, and the same goes for series. And if anyone takes a page out of it, then other types of education have failed. But that is not going to be solved or resolved by expecting teens to listen to R&B, soul, pop, or cadence music instead of watching dramas.



Systems are self-corrective. If someone watches 50 series and one of them has a shooting, and that shooting precedes everything else they have seen and leads them to start shooting themselves, the problem was not the series. The fact that a person imitates something they saw in fiction does not establish that the fiction was the cause of the behavior.

And in fact, if you really mean well, you’re not going to send young people from one type of entertainment, leisure activity, or passive activity to another. Just get them away from it completely and make them do “something significant with their lives” (whatever is that supposed to be). Don’t make them give up one thing they actually want to do just to replace it with another thing they don’t want to do.

It’s basically like tripping over your own advice. The result is the same — at the end of the day, there’s nothing there except a relaxed person.

And yes, we can talk about IQ and what different people are capable of taking away from it. And that is precisely why I wouldn’t give this kind of advice. Because it implicitly assumes that the other person is doing something with that medium that they actually aren’t.

Besides, someone with a lower IQ isn’t going to be “saved” by switching from one form of entertainment to another. Just as an intelligent person isn’t going to be ruined by watching something that the majority considers mind-numbing. And that majority is, by definition, made up mostly of people of average intelligence. Intelligence does not determine whether someone can watch supposedly “mind-numbing” entertainment without being intellectually damaged by it (or uplifted, for that matter, whatever that means).

So whichever way we choose to look at it, this simply isn’t advice I can agree with. I don't agree that your proposed solution follows from your premise.

Hm, yes. I am not taking special episodes seriously. 101 out of 100 cases they are not good. If they did not root and build it in the main story, we (me-creators) don't have anything to say to each other/there is little expectation for it to be there/did they shoved it there to hide something? like - why?/what miracles am i to expect there that were not made room for in previous 12! episodes?.
