I'll be honest here:this is the best drama that has so good effects! You can clearly see the big budget that was needed for the animation for the in-game play. E-sports is so popular that I am surprised that China is the only one doing drama adaptations!(S-Korea..I'm eyeing you..gaming is so popular there and noooo, only bad cliches dramas lately). It's true that the live-action is slightly different from the novel(which I have read whole), but it's still good! Cannot wait for the 2nd season! Also, I see people wanting romance..like really guys...there are hundreds of dramas that have romance! Not everyone wants to see romance orientated plot! It really is a breath of fresh air to watch a drama that actually has friendship accentuated this much!

It's been awhile since I watched a jdrama, but this one is really good. You get action, drama, tragedy and revenge in one drama only. I like how the romance subtext is just that, subtext, and that it concentrates on the drama and ugly face that yakuza can bring for the characters. Ueda Tatsuya did a wonderful job as Nanase and I hope he'll act in more dramas like this one. The tragedy of Kondo-san was really tear worthy and i really hoped until the end for a good ending and was really an element that makes this drama even more worthy of watching.

Don't really understand why at the majority of this type of dramas, there is someone that adds at the recommendation section Nirvana in fire....I understand similar genres and all, but I feel like RN is way too much romance and crying scenes that could have been reduced and concentrate more on the plot. Acting is very good, cinematography also...but plot wise is very dragging. Didn't read the novel but this could have been so much better.

Person Ji Li Spoiler
He was really good in the untamed, good acting. But can you guys tell me why his nickname i ‚director nie‘??
It's because of his character in The Untamed. Nie Huaisang was the mastermind of everything that happened after WWX returned. He directed everything, from Yiling Laozu's return to the demise of Jin GuanYao/Meng Yao

Guys I’m at episode 10 and I’m confused about something. Why did the Jiang clan adopt WWX? Does WWX and Jiang…
WWX aren't blood brothers so they don't share the same father. The parents of WWX were acquiescence with the father of JC, Jiang Fengmian. I don't remember if in the TV serial it's mentioned, but in the novel Jiang Fengmian might have had feelings for WWX's mother and this is also one of the reasons of why Madam Yu (Jiang Cheng's mother) resents WWX. WWX's father was a servant of Yunmeng Jiang and he and Jiang Fengmian knew each other as well, before he left the sect and eloped/married with Wuxian's mother. Later on, they both died in a night hunt and child Wuxian was left to fend for himself. Jiang Fengmian searched for him, found him and adopted him into the sect and family

Thank for your reply and for this thread! It's a nice perspective to read what other people think about this drama. Just a few things that I feel the need to point up:) As you probably know already, yes, it is very hard to actually get into the drama! The novel was easier because it has many flashbacks while here, just one big one. The popularity comes from the novel; or at least it came at first. Low budget? Hell yeah! Most of us agree with that 100%. Bad acting? That's debatable: some of them do a good job but majority are new, new actors at their 1st ever filming; so that's for sure something. Cannot compare it with My Mister because of MAAANYY reasons: different genre, different ep nr which gives a different budget, experienced actors, made by koreans FOR koreans taste. Chinese dramas are made primarily for Chinese population, and cheesy is something that majority like, otherwise there wouldn't be so many dramas like that out there. Also, majority of dramas are actually ADAPTATIONS! From novels..and some of them are written by 16 years old..hehe..strange as it seems, but that's how it is. You actually get the cheesiness that teenagers have about love and all. Regarding the audience:D Well, I don't fall into that category: am over 25 years old(wish to have a time turner to go back in kindergarten, though:)) adult life is hard), and not a BL avid fan. Off, and if you check older comments, you will see that many came here for the BL but stayed for the tragedy and plot. Also..if you like BL dramas that much, stay away from Chinese dramas since China has a BL ban on television. What you see in dramas after 2015, I believe, it's context and that's all, As long as that ban is effective, you will only see very subtle BL, brotherhood and all that.

Title The Untamed
Is this a good series with a good story or is this just something people drool over because of the good looking…
If you are new to Chinese dramas, The Untamed is for sure not to watch as it contains many metaphors which translated into English sounds childish, and the whole cultivation/fantasy stuff is kinda hardcore for a beginner. Regarding the Voice dubbing, it is what it is..In China there are so many accents that they need to do voice overs for this specific reason: so that every watcher can easily understand the characters. The plot of this whole drama is good. Really good. But it takes over 16 episodes to actually enter into the action. In my opinion, the best episodes are after episode 33 where they are back into the current timeline: present. There you actually see how so little details have so much impact that you didn't even notice the first time:) Also, I see that some people recommended Eternal Love: In my opinion is quite cheesy/ even cheesier that The Untamed:)) Checking your watchlist, which is more BL stuff, you will for sure not like it! Budget wise is one of the best dramas, but I'm not sure it will be on your taste:)) Maybe try dramas like: The Lost tomb 2 ( LT1 is quite a sad adaptation but it's short and you can give it a try), Sea Sand, Tientsin Mystic, Nirvana in Fire. They have good production, some brotherhood elements that go borderline BL in some scenes, not cheesy, mysterious and quite good.

The actors are already booked for other projects. So if they did such thing, it'd be a whole while from now. Now…
The extra chapters from the novel are more like..on the intimate/porn side, so it will never be adapted in China due to BL bans. And anyways..it wouldn't be much of a story..only them sleeping together and a night hunt I believe. They ended the story for them just perfect while they left some lose ends for other characters like JC, JL, NHS, WN, which they want to cover in these 3 small movies. The author has also written that the MDZS/The Untamed novel is over and that she will never add to it. Same with her other 2 novels. Also, HOB will be adapted into drama by the same studio that did Eternal Love, and they are some of the best ones budget wise and quality! Regarding legal issues..from what I read, those are only online speculations, some anti-fans even spread the idea that she is in jail..So I wouldn't trust those rumors!

It was JC who got it since WWX can’t wield a sword
While it's true that he cannot use Suibian anymore as Mo Xuanyu because he has a weak core (making a pause here to mention that if he wants to live as much as Lan Zhan, then he would have to cultivate it more otherwise he will have a normal human live regarding the number of years), if he cultivates enough, then he will be able to use it. Suibian is not tied to his original core that is now in JC; it answers to it, yes, but we don't really see JC actually use it, rather only take it out from the sheath. It was never mentioned in the novel or by the author; that is just a supposition. Suibian, in my opinion, is sentient. Unlike other weapons (Baxia and the sword of XXC which are both later used by Xue Yang after their death or the sword of Jin Zixuan which is later used by Jin Ling) the sword seals itself which even Wei Wuxian is surprised of. I guess special guy, special sword:)). Rather than the core, Suibian answers more to the soul present in Mo Xuanyu's body. Like it's name, I guess that Suibian does whatever they want:))

Guys, I found a possible synopsis for this, in case anyone is interested. The source appears to be ok since they were right with the summary for The Living Dead also. Here are the links: https://twitter.com/sleepy_npanda/status/1193377569267048448/photo/2 https://twitter.com/qazbh_/status/1181394593402650625/photo/4 So basically, it's going to be in the timeline of after WWX died with the plot being concentrated on on Saber Grave that appears in The Untamed. Don't know how much JGY will appear. Also, I searched through some Chinese online news, and some say that the 3rd spin off is regarding Xue Yang and the Yi City!:D Crossing fingers to be true since I want me some XXC and XY!:x

I don't remember if in the novel extra's it was ever mentioned what happened with Suibian, but Legendary Zathura is wrong. Now that WWX has returned in a new body, he has a new core and he demonstrated that he is able to use Suibian again, although his real core is in JC ( episode where the paper doll is using the sword and his identity is revealed). Just like the flute, the sword might be once again with his real wielder, WWX. But that is just my supposition, as it is with many stuff that was left unanswered by the author:))

1. How NMJ corpse wasn't alive like Wen Ning, and only his arm: I think the horror effect would have been more accentuated and the same with JGY fear. 2.) The small details of the brotherly relationship between NHS and NMJ: how when he was approaching Qi deviation, NMJ would scold and be mean with his brother (burning his trinkets and fans, slashing his arm and leg with Baxia) 3.) In the drama there is no mention of the fact that the former Nie sect leader was killed by the Wen leader, leading to his Qi deviation also. 4.) Yi Cty arc...like really...they didn't include many flashbacks such as when Xue Yang gor his finger destroyed: it would have made his hatred more real! And also A-Qing's eyes which should have been gray! :)))) lolz:))) I should stop or else I'll really find to many flaws:))

The producers of this drama took so many liberties,,that it makes it very hard to watch..,This season is boring and drags a lot...Personally I wanted to watch it because some watchers said that the drama has a similar feeling with Nirvana in Fire, but apparently, in my opinion, it's a far cry from that! While in NiF the protagonists have a certain charisma and a main objective, here..the characters are..let's say..hard to digest. Very good drama budget wise and production, but story and character development very low on my chart. I mean seriously.. this thing with getting sick and dying in 1 episode all of the sudden is just one of the most minor stuff that proves inconsistent story...Many characters don't get the closure they deserve or reach the potential possible.

Wow! It's stunning! Is it another bromance?
Unfortunately it hasn't been translated. Last time I checked it, it was in hiatus, so i'm not sure if the author ever continued it. Although I also wish for that bromance, from what chinese fans are writing, they kinda made it a minor thing in the drama and changed the plot completely. Crossing fingers for them to be wrong:)) Though I doubt it since it has been filmed prior The Untamed. For the bromance I would go for Nirvana in Fire (if you can ignore the last 30 min of the last episode:)) I heard that Once Upon a Time in Lingjian Mountain that it's airing now also has more bromance than romance:)) I'm waiting for it to finish airing before watching. Tientsin Mystic is another one to watch for!Zhang Ming En won my heart ever since I saw him in Tomb of the Sea!! And the season 2 is waiting for a slot to be aired! Lastly, give a try to The Longest Day in Chang'an. While it's not bromance, it's also not cliche romance. It's packed full with action and the action happens all in 24 hours. :))) This reminded me to also update my watchlist when I have time:)))
