Also, I must say, there's not a single thing appealing about the ML's elder brother's personality thus far. That rich boy client who was always hitting on the FL in the beginning was an ass but he's got nothing on that brother. He's seriously unlikeable and really messes with the general good and mellow vibes of the drama thus far. His presence is a major turnoff.
Maybe it's just me (since I haven't come across any similar comments) but doesn't it feel like the FL puts very little effort into making the relationship work? Her first impulse is to cut and run as soon as the littlest challenge is thrown her way. Most of the time it's all in her head too. The only time she actually seemed to put any effort in was when she felt threatened by the SFL.
It just feels like, for someone who wants a family so badly, that she'd put a lot more effort into developing and strengthening the relationship itself, or even participate more in actually building a home together. All of those efforts seem to constantly be coming from the ML instead.
Maybe I'm overlooking things...I'm on episode 15 now.
Just finished this - overall, very sweet story - not a lot of ‘fireworks’ - but very gentle.I think the biggest…
I'm curious as to where you watched this. I'm watching it on dramacool and haven't come across the editing issues you mention. Specifically with the example you've given. It didn't play out that way at all. Maybe there was a subbing issue too (?) because the only phone call I can recall during the time surrounding the grandfather's death was the one she made while outside the funeral, when she told someone at her job that needed an additional day off to take care of a personal matter. She never mentioned her husband or that the grandfather had died during that call.
If you watched it somewhere other than on dramacool maybe we can let others know here, so they avoid watching it where you did and don't experience the same issues.
Man! These divorced parents are something else. I've seen this situation a whole lot in Chinese (and Korean) dramas where neither parent wants the child from their first marriages and move on and have whole new lives leaving those children completely neglected and displaced. What's up with that?
How realistic is this scenario? Can someone tell me? I've also gotten the impression that step children are often seen as faux pas in general, which often results in these situations. Is that true too?
It still surprises me that we often see divorce presented as such a huge negative in a person's social standing in modern dramas which, for me has always been mind boggling, but I just go with it.
I'm just trying to understand and am curious.
I'm also not here to judge or bash anyone else's culture so if your response is with that intent please refrain from commenting.
I'm on episode 5 and I don't understand how I've hardly seen any comments on here about that absolutely obnoxious…
I'm midway through the final episode and I'm sorry but I am not at all happy with how the SFL has been handled. Had she not spread that news about the ML to the mass public and media I wouldn't be this disappointed by the lack of repercussions she faced but she caused him to not just be humiliated at school but harassed and bullied by strangers while just walking on the street. The fact that no one has even made her own up to that makes me sick. While I don't find it necessary to be humiliated on the same level I DO find it necessary for at least her classmates to understand the depth of her depravity. In the real world, someone like that will only feel badly (as we are shown her to be) briefly. In the real world, that speech really wouldn't even get to them at all. They don't do the things that girl did and just get shaken that easily. They next time they feel scorned, hurt or upset they'll lash out in the same way or worse, because they got away with it before and because they faced no repercussions.
Japanese dramas don't usually disappoint me in this regard, to this extent. This is some cdrama/fairytale crap right here.
There's a lot I've ended up liking about this drama. There were aspects early on that were more frustrating to watch than I'd expected (based on the comments) or liked, or that would let me continue to consider this to be "light & fluffy". The SML definitely grew on me more after he was turned down. Overall I've liked the drama...but this aspect with the SFL was a major disappointment for me.
Still 1/2 an episode left to go...plus, I may see if I can find those 2 special graduation episodes subbed somewhere too.
I'm on episode 5 and I don't understand how I've hardly seen any comments on here about that absolutely obnoxious and deplorable SFL. She's one of the worst school-aged bully antagonists I've seen in a while. I'll be LIVID if she doesn't get her just dues by the end of the drama.
I'm having a hard time watching this and I'm only on the 2nd episode. It's not terrible but...Okay, for example,…
I've made it to ep 4 and I'm sorry but I have ZERO SL syndrome happening.
In fact, the shows efforts to force a SL syndrome is pissing me off more than anything. I HATE when they make it so the FL spends all of her time bonding with the SML just to get the audience to feel torn. I would have appreciated it more if they'd shown her spending time with both guys properly. Not this distancing her from the ML and having her spend all of her time with the SML.
It's not that I dislike the SML. There are some things about him that have rubbed me wrong so far in the series, which they did at least come back to explain in this episode but I dislike the way the drama is trying to force the audience where the want. It's not fluid and natural. In fact I feel as though had she been spending time with the ML as she has the SML, the SML wouldn't have stood a chance with his confession in the first place.
DISCLAIMER: I am not saying people are wrong to like the SML or have SL syndrome. I can completely understand why they would as the show is specifically set up to induce those emotions. So please do not think I'm bashing those who were rooting for the SML. I'm simply voicing why I personally don't feel the same.
Cant believe this got such high rating and praises here.. The first episode was just wow 1 after another it was…
I'm having a hard time watching this and I'm only on the 2nd episode. It's not terrible but...
Okay, for example, I keep seeing comments about the SML (the transfer student) being equally as likeable as the ML (the pretty boy, prince) but so far I don't really care for the SML much. He was a judgmental jerk when he first met the FL and, even if he assumed she was a certain type of person just because she'd entered the pageant (aka small-minded), he was unjustifiably rude after making that assumption too. Later on, at his welcome party he LAUGHED when the FL fell in the pool as she tried to stand up for her 'friend'. There are aspects of his personality that I just don't really care for. Meanwhile, other than having a complicated family situation, the ML has been nothing but endearing every single step of the way.
I'm assuming the SML becomes more likeable as the drama progresses (let's hope) based on all the positive comments about the character but all of my other frustrations with the drama is making it difficult for me to want to push through to find out. Like is the FL going to speak up for herself anytime soon? Is most of the drama going to be about these mean girls running around doing things unchecked?
I know this is old and I'm late to the game but I'm literally currently wearing the same t-shirt Meiko was wearing when she first went to visit the FL at the dorm. It says, "Busy doing nothing." LOL! Only difference is mine is grey and hers is white!
This is the kind of show I'd have SL syndrome for since I genuinely like both guys. I have a preference for the devil though since he's sexier and has a huge heart but in this case it would actually make sense for the FL to have ended up with the angel since they spent more time together and actually bonded. Still, I'd prefer her to end up with the devil.
This is a true love triangle. One that's actually exceptionally well done.
I'm glad it ended the way it did. On to watch the movie sequel now.
That SFL character's personality is so obnoxious and such a turnoff that she's literally giving me a migraine,…
By ep 16 the character I'm having the hardest time watching now is the FL's father. He keeps using the excuse of looking out for his daughter and doing what he thinks is best for her but completely ignores her feelings every step of the way. All he cares about are his own feelings and his own comfort levels even though it's her life he keeps messing with. He's not even trying to be better and refuses to see when he's wrong. All that just shows selfishness to me, no matter how much they try to make it seem otherwise. He keeps praising himself for dropping everything after his wife died but even that sounds more like someone riding his own jock than someone who's doing everything he can to be good to his daughter. I get that he doesn't know anything else but not once did he try to LEARN to be a better parent, for her sake. He ignores everyone else too. He just keeps getting worse and worse and it's becoming really difficult to watch him.
That SFL character's personality is so obnoxious and such a turnoff that she's literally giving me a migraine,…
On ep 14 and the characters are all far more tolerable now. Plus the SFL's storyline has gotten interesting. This is a good thing since, honestly, as much time as they spend on her and her storylines, I really don't understand why she isn't considered the FL in the drama. Everything in the show currently revolves around her. The leads are support characters. Frankly, EVERYONE else is a support character. It's to the point where I wonder why the name was even chosen for this drama at all. The bodyguard aspect of this is practically irrelevant.
That SFL character's personality is so obnoxious and such a turnoff that she's literally giving me a migraine,…
Made it all the way to ep 11. Things are moving along pretty quickly now although I am skipping a lot of scenes. I genuinely can't imagine how this can last for 82 episodes without becoming boring though. I'm curious to find out how they pull it off.
That SFL character's personality is so obnoxious and such a turnoff that she's literally giving me a migraine,…
Good lord. Ep 5, an even more annoying female character is introduced. Seriously?! I was just getting over the other one! This one takes the cake. She's dumber than a rock (and I feel like I'm insulting rocks by even comparing her to them), sickeningly spoiled, selfish and obnoxious.
The FL actress would have been perfect in a gender bender role. She seriously could pass for a boy better than a lot of other actresses who've taken on those roles. Seriously, if her voice was deeper I'd think she were a young boy.
That SFL character's personality is so obnoxious and such a turnoff that she's literally giving me a migraine, nausea and all. The FL's unprofessionalism is annoying but still tolerable. Even more so now that this SFL has been introduced and even has her whole storyline. The problem is now the storylines overlap so skipping the SFL entirely is problematic. This is beginning to become difficult to watch. I'm only on ep 3!
It just feels like, for someone who wants a family so badly, that she'd put a lot more effort into developing and strengthening the relationship itself, or even participate more in actually building a home together. All of those efforts seem to constantly be coming from the ML instead.
