Just finished it and there was no gaslighting in this at all. There was also no need for a redemption arc because it wasn't like the man really did anything wrong. Did he not fully understand her anxiety over the situation, of course! He's a man! How could he automatically be expected to fully understand her high level of insecurity. In his mind she's just overreacting since the issue just is not that important to him. He needed to understand that just because he's that way that it's not the same for all men or how many other men behave and women develop complexes because of that. But then he did! She should get it done if it would help with her own self-esteem and complex because of what happened to her in the past, not for any other reason. What, did she plan on lying to the guy forever? Her lack of sincerity towards him (and that's exactly what all her dodging and avoidance is) is just begging for her to be dumped and I wouldn't feel sorry for her at all. It would be completely warranted. No one deserves to be held at an arms length for that long in a relationship, especially without a proper explanation. Not when they're giving the relationship their all. Should he cheat on her? If he did I wouldn't be surprised but, no, he should break up with her properly. Should he stay with her with the way things are, not at all. Not with her method of constantly avoiding the issue.
Of course less mature viewers on here will probably be like if he loved her he would understand and all that fairytale bull but just like women deserve to be treated well in a relationship, so does the man. In case there's any doubt, I'm very much a female.
Now, if she told him and he broke up with her just because of her lack of breasts then he's a complete turd. THAT'S why she should have been honest and told him from the get go. She's being unfair to both herself and him, continuing on with the relationship for so long just lying to him about it the entire time.

With that storyline I kept finding myself checking to make sure this wasn't a Japanese drama even though I knew what I was hearing was Chinese, not Japanese. Although...had it been a Japanese drama I'm sure this would have already taken a very different turn, despite my only being 20 mins into this.

I fully agree. It's been 2 years since I first watched this and I'm about to watch it again now because they remain one of my all-time favorite couples to this day. I also remember the absolutely detesting several characters in this drama - they're highly ranked in my list of all-time most hated characters - such as the cousin (Chen Yichaun), the 'best friend' (I seriously have a hard time considering her a friend), the senior SML and the absolutely atrocious mother.
The extent of my dislike for those characters throughout the duration of the drama (which in itself is another issue as it's not like they were obnoxious only here or there, but their ugliness was ongoing) and the fact that I was able to finish it at all says how much I truly loved the main couple. They were so wonderful that I was able to tolerate all the things that I hated.
Let's see how I do on this rewatch attempt though. I'm hoping the antagonists get to me less than they did before so that I'm able to really enjoy our main couple even more.

It's been a long time since I first watched this and I'm trying to decide if this is what I'm in the mood for to watch it again right now. I saw your comment and immediately remembered how strongly I agree. It says a lot that years later I still remember how much I disliked both of those characters (the 'friend' and the cousin). I also remember how much I disliked the FL's mother and the SML (they disgusted me). Yet, the leads to this day continue to be one of my all-time favorite couples so I do want to see them again.
Do you happen to recall in which episode it was that they finally get together? I'm just trying to figure that out before I really get into this again.
I really, really enjoyed this for the first 2/3 of the drama. The romance was extremely well written until then and they did a great job of keeping things light and fluffy and sweet and cute and beautiful. I was truly surprised by how impressed I was with the drama all the way up to the end of episode 16. Like it was up there with the best romcoms for me.
Then the drawn out breakup and reconciliation happened. Even then it was still very interesting and captivating but it broke up the ongoing good vibes until then. Still...it wasn't bad. It wasn't even a letdown.
But then they completely switched focus to all the business politics and the romance completely went on the back burner. The business politics was interesting but not enough so to keep me invested for as long as they drew it out.
The biggest letdown though was that they could never regain their rhythm and footing with the romance after. It was a complete bomb in that aspect in my opinion. They tried hard to pull the romance (along with all the cute and sweet) back together but failed dramatically.
After the first 16 episodes I honestly would have given this a full 10/10. Rating only the first 19-20 episodes my score would probably still be somewhere in the 9-10 range. But now I'm midway through the final episode and I can't even begin to guess at how I want to rate this. It's definitely a happy ending all around but it feels like a complete flop.

Yes, I watched Hidden Love a couple of months ago and really enjoyed it, although I don't remember much of the storyline at the moment.
I started this again earlier but find myself stalling already as I'm not really sure what exactly I'm currently in the mood for.
