The ML's acting was phenomenal, very natural and realistic. He was completely into the role. The FL's acting was at times forced and overdone, which stood out against the ML's natural flow. I actually don't think I'd notice those mild weakness in FL's acting had she not been paired against him in this role.
Also, people keep talking about the ML being abusive. She was basically his captive in the beginning. Based on all the comments, I seriously expected him to have hit her or tossed her around a bunch. He forcefully held her by the throat while he was all up in her face...two or three times... Not at all saying that's okay, but we've seen way worse in other dramas and no one ever said a thing so what's the deal here?
It's not like it continued with that behavior or it was his nature. Once he stopped viewing her as a tool being used to achieve his goals and started seeing her as a person nothing even close to abusive ever happened again.
All his anger and aggression towards her was in large part due to his sister (who he finally was about to reconnect with after 17 years) having died while saving FL's life - hence, his resentment and grief clearly wasn't being handled well), AND he viewed her strictly as a tool/weapon to be used to achieve goals which had now become even more crucial since his sister was gone now too. AND that tool kept acting up. He chose to use force and fear to get the tool to act right (and honestly, there were times I wanted to smack the shit out of the FL several times myself...maybe that's why I thought his roughness was mild?! LOL!). Also everytime he looked at her he was reminded of his sister and what had happened.
I'll say it again. Once he stopped seeing her as a tool/weapon and started seeing her for who she was (including seeing past her face) it was clear he was never the type to truly harm a woman (although I wished he'd choked the shit out of the aunt towards the end).
People also keep getting stuck on her looking exactly like his sister. How do y'all watch body swapping or cross-dressing dramas? He didn't fall in love with her face. He fell in love with the person. I'm struggling to understand why that's been so difficult for people to grasp.
Now, let's talk about how seriously hot that ML's character was and how well the actor pulled that shit off. My GOD! Pure sex appeal throughout. He KILLED those scenes and owned that tall, dark, RICH and handsome demeanor. I remember him from Hello, The Sharpshooter and although I thought he was hot there too it was nothing compared to this. It's like he studied Jimin's (BTS) sex appeal before playing the role. My GOD he pulled it off well! He was the best part of this entire drama - hands down.
Lastly, what the hell is up with the outrageous stupidity from the female characters? The FL was imbecilic, pathetic and dense to the extreme in the beginning. I almost couldn't bear to push through it. That was next-level frustrating. Then the best fried kept showing her own stupidity. Then the best friend's mom took the cake! It was totally a dumb, dumber and dumbest scenario! Luckily that didn't last throughout so I was able to enjoy most of the drama. Oh! The SFL was AWESOME! She's the only female character that was never stupid. I loved her style and her looks and she just kept getting cooler and cooler.
All in all, I really enjoyed the drama. It's definitely NOT a masterpiece and not at all perfect but it was fun and completely addictive to watch (the short-length episodes helped), which is obviously what I wanted and why I chose to watch it in the first place. So it accomplished what it was meant to. I'll definitely watch this again.
What was the original family relationship between ML and the dead girl? Half-sibling, step-sibling, cousin?
They're regular siblings. No illegitimacy.
Basically, when they were both young he (ML) traveled abroad with his parents and all 3 got into a car accident there. The little girl (his sister) had stayed behind for some reason or another. The father died at the scene and the mother disappeared. The son (ML) went into hiding (stayed at an orphanage) and started using his dad's surname, because he knew it wasn't a normal accident. The grandfather also sent the little girl into hiding abroad to keep her safe as well.

LMAOOOO! I only just finished ep. 2 but can already totally relate to your comments! It took me forever to finish that episode too because I wanted to pick up that FL and shake her like a rag doll so many times that I'd have to stop and question why the heck I'm even watching this! It's the ML though. He makes it interesting.
Your first sentence is exactly what I was hoping to see. I agree 100%!I think it may have more to do with the…
Oh crap! You're totally right! How could I forget about that. I seem to remember it coming out a while ago though that he was taking propofol due to a medical issue and I saw someone on here comment about that as well. The marijuana is still an issue though. Dagnabbit!
So we r still uncertain of who the father is. She loves her brother so no way she would neglect n laugh at the…
The secret is that the baby is theirs - hers and the brother's. That's why she told him he made sure to never beat it like he was. She explained the neglect when she said the baby would never smile at her and that she couldn't ever move (as in, go towards it...I'm assuming when it was crying or something). Also, after committing the murder a year prior I'm pretty sure she'd completely broken at that point, by the way she described it. So I think taking care of the baby was likely impossible. But since no one (else) knows that she's the murderer, they (the justice system) wouldn't factor that in as a reason for the neglect.
Also, it's not true that all babies born of incest aren't born normal. Science has proven otherwise,

No it was interesting for me too. I just meant your comment about liking "sexually transgressive and twisted plots". I sometimes get curious or purposely watch certain things just because I want to see if they'd really make my jaw drop (lol) but I'm more for traditional, contemporary romantic dramas. That's all I meant. LOL!

I THOUGHT I'd read something in the past about him having a reason to be taking propofol! I'm so glad you posted this. I thought maybe I'd been mistaking him for someone else.

Actually it sounds like they're just narrow-minded and judgemental. How do you jump to such an imbecilic conclusion about Netflix? They're acting like this stuff is equal to let's say a DUI or hit and run or something serious. No @NobL, we wouldn't be that way if they were any old Joe because the shit is not that serious.
If this weren't Korea, Netflix wouldn't give two dimes about it. So I wonder if they're actually going to drop…

I think it may have more to do with the funding sources and such though right? Like if it was fully up to them there wouldn't be an issue at all but because there must be Korean contracts and businesses involved they're trying to do the best with what they've got?
I think they'll work through it though. Fingers crossed!

Here's what I like -your honesty. Sincerely. While my tastes/guilty pleasures differ from yours, I love that you were confident enough to share and express your viewpoint, blatantly going against popular opinion. AND for shouting out to the actors too! Well done.
I think you misunderstood a couple of things. It wasn't the show the mother acted in that they were airing. It…
Wait. I went back and read the rest of what you said. I've watched this 3 times already. Not once has there been an instance when they hinted that she slept around. The show was simply trying to make us guess who was the actual child. Wow. You have a very pessimistic view of things. Anyway, I'm going back to what I was watching. I'm on the last episode of this other show that I've really been enjoying and have no intention on dwelling on this nonsense.
I think you misunderstood a couple of things. It wasn't the show the mother acted in that they were airing. It…
When did I ever say she was a victim? I'm a mother. So more than anyone else I cannot comprehend why a person would ever leave their children. However, I'm also realistic and realize we shouldn't judge people when we aren't in their shoes. You're being very close-minded. But that's your choice and I'm not bashing you for it. I was simply clarifying certain things you chose to ignore about the story.
I'll be honest. I didn't bother reading more than the first paragraph of your response because this conversation isn't worth my time. Again, that's not a dig at you. It's just this isn't important.
OMG so many of you aren't paying close enough attention and overlooking things. She came back after she was cancer…
Clearly this was my wasted effort. I don't come across people like you on here very often so sometimes I forget that you're out there.
I simply pointed out some parts of the drama that you seemed to have missed or overlooked but I think in your case it's more likely that you see only want you want to see. Now I know.
Oh and there's ten times (or more) as many who didn't skip scenes and therefore fully grasped the entire story. Your comment is highly illogical, but helped me realize I'm most likely dealing with someone very young so expecting more mature reasoning is simply unfair to you.
@KelePhillips Harris, I hate to tell you this, but China still lives in a bubble. Unless you use a VPN in China…
WOW! I should have known. That's freakin' crazy!!! I'm really happy you shared this. They're so advanced and well-developed... WOW. That explains so much.
So what's South Korea's excuse (other than massive corruption and being stuck in a monarchial mindset)? We know they don't live in a bubble. They just developed too rapidly for their cultural development to keep up I believe. But their super-backward mentality - in sooooo many ways - drives me batshit crazy.
UGH! It's so frustrating. No country is even remotely close to perfect. But to see what these entertainers constantly have to face is so heartbreaking. It's so hard being unable to do anything to help them.
