There are a lot of historical dramas with good endings (at least open with indication to good ending) but the drag -telling a life journey- and many names and characters indeed are a turned-offs. I see you are a fan of the non-fantasy historical. I have yet to watch The Story of Minglan it's in my PTW since last year. But when I heard they got divorced I was pretty upset. It was the same with in the beginning of my dramaland I wanted to watch DOTS but then the couple got divorced, it took me one year that I finally was able to watch it. I guess I am an emotional watcher, lol!

Lol... I went through my custom lists to figure out why I don't like the drama only to realize I watched it in 2020. I found out I even watched the Red Flame. My custom lists have positive/negative highlights it's like condensed review cos I don't write reviews anymore: (-) confusing body swap; (-) low budget production: costume, etc; (-) editing; (-) CGI. I initially watched it for Chen Zhe Yuan

I was looking at the list again... for beginner-friendly usually the shorter the better. I can suggest One and Only (the shortest: 24 episodes) but it also has a continuation to modern setting Forever and Ever with the same main leads (30 episodes), because they're reincarnated. But I haven't watched it so probably others can pitch in what they think.

The stats are formed by MDLers. If you said the public is too young, maybe you're right. By looking at the popular dramas you can assume so ;D. Romcoms, school/college, good looking/popular actors?

Compare-and-contrast essay is hard to write, so kudo for your attempt to write this. I dropped Love 020 (boring) but managed to complete YAMG. I 100% agree with your opinion that both dramas are over-hyped and overrated. However, I 1000% agree that "if the leads are our favorite actors, no matter how bad the drama script is, we still [watch] it"... though may not enjoy it cos we skip other scenes where our faves are not in them. Lastly, just a friendly suggestion: if you love YAMG OST very much, you should link the song title, so readers can listen to it, too. Here's the OST's official link:
