That is good advice in general. Many of the so-called fan wars are steered by third parties with vested interests (either to push an actor into the headlines or to smear someone). The competition for roles is currently very tough, so some people use any means available.
As international fans we shouldn’t blindly believe and copy everything we see on Weibo as many of the perceived problems only exist in some fans’ imagination.

That’s the current rumours, no further news. Youku tend not to give firm dates for their upcoming dramas, but I heard that they are looking for pre-broadcast investment.

Why would it be shelved? It was even on the (unofficial) list of upcoming iQiyi dramas.

I see it more as a sort of compliment. It means that his name can attract interest and to be frank, I think that he has outgrown this type of drama and would probably not even want to star in it. His recent roles all look very good!

Yes, that’s what they do all the time.
Many in-preparation dramas use the names of whoever is popular at the moment to attract attention.
And I agree, it looks rather fake.

Pandering to the audience has become a very annoying trend. I think directors/producers/writers should make their choice based on what they think suits best and then stand by it. I like people who stand for something, regardless of whether I agree with them or not.
Trying to please everyone will just upset everyone.
