Well let us stick to the facts.
1. TJ was kept in the operating room bc he was just starting to connect the nerves with the stem cells, and if he left, the client would be disabled. Who would think that his daughter was injured that badly

2. TJ had no idea that Chairman used only VIP clients and illegal fetal stem cells for the project, in secret. That project was to run clinical trials with stem cells to help ANYBODY. And it was a great contribution of TJ to the society. He invented something that helps ppl

And of course why would he not do that project??? who is thinking that he will be in surgery while his kid is hurt??? And even if it was not in a VIP surgery, he could have been in ANY surgery.

SO LET US STOP HERE THERE IS NO IFS AND BUTS IT IS JUST HOW IT WORKED OUT.

Chairman ran a big criminal ring SOMEONE HAD TO TAKE CLIENTS' STEM CELLS, STORE THEM, REPLACE THEM WITH FETAL STEM CELLS, AND KEEP BRINGING IN AND STORING THE ILLEGAL FETAL STEM CELLS. THIS WHOLE THING IS ILLEGAL

TJ had no idea the clients were only VIPs and the stem cells were illegal.

Indeed, I forgot to mention that. Indeed, EVEN IF he did leave that patient, would he be emotionally and physically ok to immediately operate on his daughter... ??? Also, by the time he washes off, changes uniforms, and gets to his daughter operating room... will it be already too late?

So IF he had left that patient, the patient would have become disabled for sure.... and so EVEN if he saved his kid, saving his kid would be at the expense of someone else's life. ... Yeah regret. And... that patient would sue him for neglect :) and totally ruin him and the hospital reputation.

In summary: THERE IS NO WAY HE COULD HAVE LEFT THE ONGOING SURGERY TO OPERATE ON HIS DAUGHTER. The hospital had to have another good-enough surgeon. Well,,, it didnt. He is the best out there. But is there any guarantee that he would have saved his daughter?

THIS IS A GREAT DILEMMA TO PONDER - what does he think, if he had known, WOULD he have left the ongoing surgery to operate on his daughter? Seems like the USA already decided that for surgeons.

I just read the review by @_oppa, who dropped the drama bc ML is too contradictory. Usually @_oppa writes pretty insightful reviews, but this time they flopped it, imo. ML is not contradictory. He is just a genius surgeon at the hospital and with no common sense for real life, he is a space cadet in real life.
He has NO street smarts... and is TOTALLY new to dealings with criminals, shady ppl, kidnappings, etc. So he learns on-the-fly, as he tries and keeps failing and trying to save his wife. Finally - bc he is intelligent - he learns enough to be successful and save her.

I think it is actually a masterful plot and a great thriller, throwing a rather autistic and highly specialized "diva" into the streets and showing how they overcame that "reality check".

ML was a delicate flower who used to exists only in the operating room. Out on the street, he was clueless. But he made it!!!!! And is still too delicate lmao I hope he overcomes

It is messed up. neither one is great. I think HJ deserves it now though. MJ also did stuff for her and deserves it. Both are worthy.
HJ s a lot more fun and expressive, but has more to learn
MJ is a lot more reliable and mature but suuuuuuuper boring old man eunuch
I think they all need to go on a super long vacation, recover, and then decide

"Nonchalant" means "feeling or appearing casually calm, relaxed, and unconcerned. A nonchalant person shows no worry, excitement, or intense interest, often acting as if a situation is no big deal". Like... a lion passes by you and you dont even wink.

So the assumptions is that the person is in some big deal situation and just stays indifferent to it. I dont think that's MJ is that... . His big deal situation is that he is eldest son in a chaebol family and most likely successor, so his every step is scrutinized and in danger. MJ was essentially in a very dangerous jail with PTH as the jail master and OJR as a constant life threat, and his Aunt always holding him in check. In other words, there are lions around MJ all the time. EVERYTHING is dangerous. Even his aunt was distant and controlling at first.

There are some MJ scenes where he calmly consoles Aunt. But.. Most of MJ's scenes are him glaring, clinching his fists, sternly talking, etc

MJ is chronically under pressure to "perform" and in danger of being hurt by OJR, PTH, scolded by Aunt, chased by reportes as "the eldest son", .... He lived in a house where OJR and her crew or his own dad PTH could hurt him any time...

and so he learned to try to survive and thus tries to keep himself under perfect control.. thus he is stiff, anxious,, concerned, burdened, and shows it. Not to a great degree, he is discreet, but he certainly is neither feeling or acting calm.

I REALIZED THAT MJ IS LIKE A WELL-BEHAVED CAGED ANIMAL UNDER CONSTANT ATTACK, AND ALWAYS HAVING TO DEFEND. he is not allowed to defend by biting, so he tries his best to stay under control
His life is not smooth at all, it is all problems. So it feels like he is huddling in his little cage that is open and allowing ppl to poke him any time, trying to survive. He is a nice polite quiet little animal, but his nervous system is overwhelmed and HE IS ALWAYS ON THE EDGE

Bc he tries to behave as a well behaved caged animal. I would say he is super RESPONSIBLE, trying to cause as little commotion as possible, so that his owners Aunt and PTH and now JJ will not get mad at him... Also, his responsibility comes at a price, he is anxious tight and just ... stiff, and only serving others, he does not seem to live his own life.... First he had to live under orders of his Aunt and surveilance and restrictions of his chaebol dad, then he had to serve to protect JJ... and he never even put his finger on her... HE IS TOTALLY UNDER CONTROL, DESPITE THAT INTENSE ANXIETY
well he is too much under control... to not even wink at JJ is ... to speak to her like he were her ... robot... that's too much control... Our MJ does not seem like a healthy adult male. Where is his s.x drive?

HJ was TRULY nonchalant, living a good protected safe life, all his life until he met JJ. His first "poke" towards responsibility was when he had to bring JJ in secret and when he met Chloe and wanted to marry her.

MJ never ever got some time for himself, to be free. Maybe in college while he was secretly dating JJ, but that secret was stress too and they could not spend too much time together

MJ is a perfect example of a pressured chaebol successor, tightly kept under surveillance all the time, and held up to impossible standards of utmost perfection "performance"

I would send MJ on a very very long vacation and let him be truly without any care in the world. Several months in Hawaii running on the beach and swimming

yeah he pretends to be calm - to a degree. Often he does not succeed... I finally understood that he behaves like a well behaved caged animal.
Yeah he behaves calmly around JJ and lets her do her own things. Yeah that part is nochalant. But ... it is kinda ... fake. It just doesnt make sense. He behaves like her eunuch servant... there is not ONE inclination that he sees a woman in JJ. I can see he cares for her and DOES get upset when she is missing etc. But the feeling of it is all ... so ... bland sterile. Like she is his daughter... well no he would have more affection for a daughter.

So in some ways, I am THANKFUL that you inspired me to think deeper about MJ. To me that character was so botched. So in my thinking, I can see where it should have been better scripted and acted.

For a discussion to be productive, ppl have to be willing to present and discuss their opinions. The best example are Tibetan monks, who challenge each other to debate religious scripts and concepts. Creative and research teams also use brainstorming.
It seems like you are unfamiliar with SHARING IDEAS and think that any questions raised to you about your opinion are an attack on you. That TOTALLY prevents any learning, creativity, etc

When ppl share ideas and discuss them and see different sides of the issue, then a BIGGER PICTURE emerges and it is possible to create something new that is bigger than what each person saw

In this case, I was looking at MJ overall and ignoring his relation with JJ - bc it was so odd - and you were looking only at his relation with JJ.

So now what I am thinking is that perhaps he is so calm around her bc he feels safe and comfortable. The caged anxious stressed animal found a little place to rest. BUT he is not feeling that she is a girl and he is not gay. THAT part is super super super extra weird to me. He is behaving like a very old man or eunuch. Is he really that damaged/ptsd-ed???

Once Again has the sister from the monastery. That made the drama different and more special, as she really had integrity and principles. A rare strong woman positive character

A conversation with another user who thinks that MJ is "nonchalant" made me think more deeply of MJ. To me, MJ character has a terrible script, so 1-dimensional oversimplified, and the actor is a very unskilled actor.... so I didnt pay much attention to MJ

I see where you are going off. FEELINGS AND STATE OF MIND HAPPEN EVERY SECOND in awake hours and even sleep, so you have to show them in that second.

A good drama/movie makes scenes out of critical moments in character's 24hr day, moments that convey the underlying feelings and thinking and relationships.

WHY do you think he is nonchalant? What did he do / not do to make you think he is nonchalant?

Strong and silent type is the mass brainwashing to men, to convince them to live as hard working "robots" at work and/or fighting as soldiers, taking any order without questions, without emotions... including exploiting women and destroying Nature

So .. .these robots can carry out any exploitation and abuse without any moral dilemma -

In this drama, imo, ML was filmed incorrectly and made cemented, abnormally cemented. The scenes with his wife, esp when he comes out of surgery and she is yelling their daughter is dead, or when they finally talk about what happened and she forgives him. HE IS JUST STANDING THERE LIKE A PIECE OF CEMENT

Looking even deeper into the underlying context of all this:
men do the physical labor and soldiering,
and women are needed just to produce more of this slave labor / soldiers.
Essentially, everyone, men and women, are like domestic animals to some elites who "own" the world.

This ML actor is very skilled, and he used microexpressions on his face. My favorite scenes with that is when he talks with the Psychologist in her office about his divorce, and she enourages him to keep on, and he squints his eyes with a smile - it almost looked like he was eyeballing her romantically - but I was not sure what it was. I am curious...

And the other scene which I will always remember bc it was ALIVE was when he snitched the Chairman to police and said that Chairman was ... I forgot .. the last person the victim talked to? ML looked at the Chairman with a glee in his widely open eyes, with a winning "what? I got you!!! ha ha ha you tried to frame me but you cannot! and I am so happy about it!" shine in his eyes. That was super cute.

So he CAN express.
But let's say scene when he walks out of surgery, their kid is dead, his wife yelling... AND HE IS STANDING STILL AND EXPRESSIONLESS..
or the scene where he and his wife are talking about what happened before... his wife is clearly moved... AND HE IS STANDING EXPRESSIONLESS and even looks bored...
