As for Mr. Queen - you can believe whatever you want... but MR QUEEN DRAMA ITSELF never showed nor hinted at any connections between the swapped characters

We watch kdramas bc characters are decent people, not promiscuous, and they have decent morals and ethics, and a heart and brain, as well as hormones, so their decisions and actions are sophisticated and elegant and to some degree "pure" and informed, and with genuine feelings......

i think kdramas are excellent in treating sexuality with good taste and with common sense, in a healthy way. There is no false prudeness and pretending it is not there. It is there. But is treated with tact. Enough cues are given that we know people behind the closed door know what they are doing, but no TMI and we never vouyeur into their private business. THAT LEAVES A LOT MORE TIME FOR REAL CONTENT, and that is why we watch kdramas :) for content.

As for love triangles that are FL centric - that is a strategy to appease to female audience, to provide a delulu relief and reverse sexism in reaction to sexism in real life. In reality, many women chase one man, and women kiss male as@es in work and private life. No wonder women watnt to escape that at least in a drama.... But it doesnt help the real life bc women dont learn anything useful ... they just fantasize for 1 hr .... So imo it is helpful that dramas become more realistic and gender balanced so that the real life situations will change too.

This year there were some amazing mature yet very fun rom coms, like Positively Yours and Spring Fever.
My Dearest Nemesis was one of the pioneers in setting the trend of gender equality, integrity, and honest and direct communication and good teamwork between the couple. It was unfortunate that the audience missed it and the drama got low rating

Most of the audience is not interested in a psychological drama and thus does NOT really like true rom coms :) they think it is boring lmao
A rom com that is actually a powerfully concealed psychological drama, social commentary, and "instructions for life" / "true relationship manual" like .... Discovery of Love, Spring Fever, Positively Yours, My Dearest Nemesis, Home Town Cha Cha, etc ... is usually boring to most ppl - which tells you exactly why divorces are so rampant!!!! So ask your potential mate if they like these dramas, and if they say yes, they are long term relationship material :)

The plot that interests the audience is a spicy unusual complex plot with elements of thriller and mysterious
Most of the audience is not interested in character development and psychology

So MRN took the essence of a true rom com and added some fun frills to create that mysterious and thriller effect and also dramatize the romance, make it disfunctional by using some spicy plots, like time travel and capitalist monster chaebol, and then make the pair come together under some hilarious circumstances, like surviving time travel.

The plot that sells is - roughly speaking:
- pretty boyS chase a flawed but kind nobody woman-child and she enjoys them all but finally picks one as the permanent slave sugar daddy, while the others wilt away in grief waiting for her forever

or Perfect Crown/Pursuit of Jade kind of plot: a woman who has it all / has nothing tacks onto a pretty guy who has it all and makes her rich/famous

or: a flawed kind woman with severe issues/ trauma / falling in her life meets the closed heart traumatized ML and melts his cold heart, and he keeps saving her and taking care of her

In older dramas, FLs were often poor marginalized ppl. In the newer dramas, FLs at least are shown as competent at their job BUT total losers clutzes in their private lives

in older dramas, the man was often quite cruel in his coldness, and woman kept being nice to him
In the newer dramas, either ML or FL can be cold and closed poker face with trauma, and the rejection/mistreatment is getting less .. crude brutal. It is still brutal, just more politely lmao .

But in most if not all dramas, ML is chasing FL like crazy and she has doubts about him and takes a long time to respond and say yes; and even then, she is not totally committed - while he breaks his back and his neck to please her and cater to her, always exuses and forgives her sh.t no matter what she does, and stays loyal forever.

yeah yeah technically Mr Queen and this drama COULD be similar, if FL and UnknownActress swapped bodies - but we dont know yet if they did or not. FL got into the body of UnknownActress and we have no clue where UnknownActress went!!!

and in MRN, the timetravel/swap/whatever it is IS ON PURPOSE to properly resolve some past karma - all players from Joseon are in 2026 and the plot *is the same* as it was in Joseon

As for rom coms... There was Bon Appetit but the food was the 3rd main lead and took too much screen time.... Undercover High School and The Winning Try were excellent and so fun and I loved them but you obviously did not - bc they were related to highschool kids?.... Love Scout was decent but not funny.... Idol I was good but the com was ah too subtle, not really funny.... Heo's Diner and Heroes on Call and Heavenly Ever After were my favs... Heo's diner was almost killed by draggy script, Heroes on Call does not have enough rom, and HEA has a very elderly (82 yrs old, in that body) FL...

Any real kdrama is very healing and has profound messages for living a daily life. What are the messages here.... ? I like the independent FL and ML who does not meddle but really helps her when she needs to - bc she does need help, she is a lone woman in a different time and without any resources.
